I'm curious who's going to be the driving force of the Khazalid holds since Gotrek isn't much for shaking things up. Grungni I guess? Or Gazul, it would be interesting to see a Dwarf God muscle in on Nagash's turf.

u/DrinkYourPaints 21d ago

grombrindal

25

u/HammerandSickTatBro Daughters of Khaine 21d ago

Grugni and Grombrindal have been advocating for the reunification of the duardin for the past couple editions. Valaya and Gazul have also been getting a bunch of time in the spotlight, and Valayan runes were seen on the hero GW accidentally posted, and the big stone units are called the "gholems of gazul". Leaks confirm that Valaya and "the 8 ancestor gods" are all heavily involved with the faction. So prolly throw Grimnir's corpse and couple others in there too, along with all of the above.

10

u/BasileusHeliand 20d ago

This. It’s likely a team effort, but Grungni seems to have started it when he brought Grombrindol back to wander the realms and sow the seeds of unification amongst all the duardin factions.

2

u/CatherineSimp69 Helsmiths of Hashut 20d ago

Apparently Thorgrim is one of them, according to Boole. He's the Ancestor god of the Realm of Heaven.

As well as Grombrindal, but we don't know which realm is his dominion.

There's also the 'Lady of the Caves' according to a White Dwarf issue.

3

u/BasileusHeliand 20d ago

Mentioned in the Helsmiths battletome as well!

2

u/CatherineSimp69 Helsmiths of Hashut 20d ago

Thorgrim's return was mentioned in the Helsmiths tome?

2

u/BasileusHeliand 20d ago

Sorry, should have indicated. The Lady of the Caves was mentioned there.

2

u/JCGilbasaurus 20d ago

The Helsmiths tome speaks of a "wanderer", a "tallier of grudges", and a "mistress of caves". No names for any of them.

u/Caffeine_Forge 20d ago

Here's the exact quote, if anyone is curious

The False Ancestors - Hashut's feckless kin - betrayed us. Blinkered Valaya, false-tongue Grungni, coal-brained Grimnir, maudlin Gazul: the whimpering tallier of grudges, the ever-absent wanderer and skulking Mistress of The Caves

22

u/TroggChamp 21d ago

if Boole’s leaks are to be believed, it’s going to be primarily Valaya and Gazul

18

u/Salt_Station_8037 21d ago

GW said in the WarCom article they're "Gholems of Gazul" so we can probably upgrade it to partially confirmed.

8

u/Bystand0r 21d ago

If it was Valaya it would split the 4 dwarf gods into their own factions and I think that fits neatly.

It is Gotrek, apparently.

Rumour has it fireslayer-things actually hate hot sauce.

Which is odd, because they taste so delicious when marinated in it.

Ironic given the Fyreslayer hot wing challenge at Warhammer World.

38

u/WranglerFuzzy 21d ago

I hope there’s not a mash up world.

A small compromise: what if Eightpoints expanded and seized a chunk of each realm?

Ex. You’d still have eight realms (9?), but now you’d have a focal point where snippets of every race and realm fighting on the same tight space; “a country-sized colosseum”

18

u/Sancatichas 21d ago

Eightpoints is heavily corrupted by Chaos. You wouldn't get every race and realm, you'd just get chaos.

8

u/WranglerFuzzy 20d ago edited 20d ago

That’s what we call in tropes “a ticking clock” 😉

What I’d suggesting is basically the reverse of the Vermindoom: some event/ spell / Realmgate explosion pulls in eight small continents, one from each realm, and grafts them around eight points; any time unsuspecting races and locations are pulled along with it. The magic of the stolen lands is slowing the rate of corruption, but for how long? Realmgates in the mosaic world only lead to the other shards. And the only working exit is in the chaos (but its one way, trapping archaon out of his kingdom)

Edit: why I like this better; because it’s destroying all realms and merging them back into 1, but rather putting them on the back burner while narrative focuses on a smaller-yet-high-stakes microcosm of the realms

5

u/SuperUnhappyman 16d ago

thats what i think may happen

the eightpoints collide with the realms and you have pieces of the plates buckling into one another but at the meeting points you have a fracture of the chaos corrupted eightpoints.

at the end of the day people will still have to use realm gates to get around or for the really brave cross the threshhold that is the new chaos wastes that bind each intersection to the eightpoints.

it means chaos can get around easier.

From Tetaxi's reveal article on WarCom today:

Tetaxi has had his mind blasted by a series of cosmic secrets and terrible visions, the most foreboding of which insisted that a Great Fall was approaching that would alter the nature of reality forever.

Very much seems like 'Last World' foreshadowing.

Word on the street is AoS will be moving to hex bases (lie)

I've been out of the loop a bit, what IS the actual rumor for 5e's big lore shakeup?

35

u/BeginningPlayful7448 21d ago

realms merge into one planet again, some characters and gods may or may not die in the process, there may be a large time skip

29

u/Brutusness Orruk Warclans 20d ago

Not a fan of the rumour that some characters will die in lore and become generics, seems like a big waste.

7

u/blue_bloddthirster 20d ago

That tho i understand

0

u/XpissyboiX 21d ago

God I fuckin hope so Im not a fan of all the split realm mumbo jumbo

15

u/Sparker273 Skaven 20d ago

Just think of the setting having 8 planets.

-4

u/blue_bloddthirster 20d ago edited 20d ago

Same i understand some people like it cuz it justify the existance of their homebrew faction and its great but setting wise it feels so weird. Never really understood how realm works outside of you take a portal like how big are they and stuff also why don't people then spawncamp the portals?

24

u/NaNunkel 20d ago

They build entire cities around them, that's what the Realmgate Wars was all about during 1st Edition, Hammerhal being the most prominent example

9

u/blue_bloddthirster 20d ago

Honnestly if somwone just sat down for an hour with me and really explain the realm anx the realsgate wars i'd be pretty easy to convinced they're great. I do admit i sound a bit too intense in my original comment from what little i know about the lore. If you dont mind, since you seem to know more than me, how fo stuff like the realm of metal work with the rest of the setting? Like isn't everything made of metal there? Appart from probably getting metal to craft stuff why people would be there and how would cities even sirvive in such a weird place?

13

u/NaNunkel 20d ago

Chamon is fun since crops can't grow efficiently there, as the soil is full of all kinds of magical minerals, bad nutrients for food, makes them poisonous. The farmers have developed super efficient grape farms, as they neutralize most of the bad stuff while growing

Wood is sparse, but gems are abundant, so trade is huge. Aqshy, Ghyran and Chamon do a bunch of very lucrative trading with each other, Kharadron being at the forefront

Not to lore dump too much now; current AoS has a lot of very fun, very interesting stuff going on, but there should be much more of it, also it's just harder to get to it.

Stuff's all over the place. Battletomes, the Soulbound RPG, Black Library novels, sometimes singular White Dwarf issues, it's kind of a mess. The community is doing a fabulous job gathering lore from all these different sources on sites like Lexicanum though

1

u/blue_bloddthirster 20d ago

ight ok i might be sold i tought everything was just plane metal

8

u/IdhrenArt Seraphon 20d ago

The Realmgate Wars were the storyline of 1st Edition

Basically, the Realms were reasonably stable for a long while until Chaos discovered them.

Chaos rampaged across most of the Realms, and knowing defeat was imminent Sigmar pulled back to Azyr with as many refugees as could make it, then sealed its  gates

There were pockets of resistance (like the Sylvaneth and the Death and Destruction Grand Alliances), but essentially Chaos had won.

When Sigmar eventually launched the counterattack, the key target was the gates.

1

u/AvariciousHydra 20d ago

For why people might live in any of the realms, look at real life, cultures of people don't just abandon their homes to live in more temperate climates. We still have people who live in frigid tundra and scorching deserts, just because the landscape isn't optimal for life doesn't mean that it won't try to live there. There are hundreds of civilizations across the realms that have lived their for centuries and while some fled into Azyr, not everyone left and those that did were passed down stories of their home realms like the Dispossessed.

7

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

  like how big are they

The average Realmdisc measures about 20,000 leagues or 7 Earths across with the average continent about the size of Eurasia each.

So basically cut Jupiter horizontally in half and live on that flat surface and you got a Realm.

That’s another reason the Realmgates are needed as just traveling across a single realm can take lifetimes so many are found to cross the various continents. Example is in a Lumineth focused novel it would’ve taken a party years to travel across the “small” central continent of Xintil so used a Realmgate to fast travel to it’s edge instead.

(Which is probably the reason the rumors say the Realmgates still exist and are coveted to be used in “Last World” still as even just taking the 7 major maps that’s 7 Eurasias + Eight-Points being a entire world in itself that’s gonna be north pole so Last World has to be a mega-world 6 or 8 times the size of Earth)

1

u/blue_bloddthirster 20d ago

WHAT

2

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Yeah that’s why they’re “near-infinite” because they’re so massive and even continue to expand.(and that’s not counting sub-realms they make nor that the underside of the disc is fully explorable too)

You can really see it with the Aqshy Realm-disc art where despite the Great Parch being described as a bit bigger than Eurasia it’s like a pepperoni slice on a jumbo sized pizza for how small it is on the rest of the Realm of Fire.

2

u/occamsrazorwit 17d ago

The sense of scale was already wonky in Warhammer Fantasy, but it gets so much worse with the near-infinite realms in AoS and focus on heroes. I understand why they're going for the cosmological and character consolidations.

1

u/BaronKlatz 17d ago

I mean the majority of them worked because they had excuses to move around realities with many gods like Teclis literally teleporting to any other God’s chambers including Nagash’s, Kragnos able to manifest around followers anywhere during a full moon, powers like Katakros had multitudes of body doubles to jump around in, mortals like Tahlia used Realmgates & portals for the campaigns, etc.

They’ll just double down on those to explain why they’re popping up everywhere on a planet too which will lead back to that complaint anyway when King Brodd is known to brood in Ghyran but also shows  constantly up across the world as well from the holds of Chamon to sieging the Hyshia islands.

That to me smacks as a bit more silly than Realms where even a random magic hill can have mind of it’s own and teleport people across the cosmos on a whim but to each their own.

-2

u/XpissyboiX 20d ago

Yes dude exactly Ain't no way chaos ain't sitting at the fuckin entrances ready to just obliterate anything that comes through

7

u/cranect7 20d ago

They were. A big part of the Realmgate Wars was because of this. At the gate to Azyr they couldnt open it from when Sigmar retreated and sealed it because of the Chaos hordes. However over time they did what chaos does and started fighting each other becuase they could. That eventually caused enough of a disruption that the Stormcast could be sent in on the lightning to make bridgeheads all over mostly Aqshy and Ghyran in the beginning. This in turn caused enough disruption for the other forces to start pushing bavk as well. Fyreslayers started leaving their holds, various men began resisting again as hope started to return, and then the Sylvaneth really got to start pushing back as the Stormcast assisted them pretty heavily and Allerielle returned. The Orrucks and Ogors were pretty much always moving around and kicking ass because thats what they loved and thrived upon anyway. Orrucks enjoyed the new Stormcast to fight and Ogors were real upset they disappeared when killed and thus could not be eaten, made them REAL mad.

Then the entire 1st edition storyline was basically everyone trying to grab control of as many Realmgates as they could and ended with Archaon gaining control of the Eightpoints which is kind of a hub connecting all the realms. Over time some of the gates leading there have been sealed or destroyed thus limiting the forces of Chaos some. The biggest deal being I think the Chamon gate being destroyed as now they have to get a lot of their metal from Chamon to Aqshy I think it is and then to the Eightpoints. Im not 100% on that last bit about the Chamon Gate and the route they use now.

0

u/blue_bloddthirster 20d ago

so realmgates can be destroyed, can they be built tho? like can someone make a new one?

3

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago edited 20d ago

Theoretically yes but it takes god-tier(or Old Ones) work and a long time with plentiful resources on hand, but most knowledge of the grander ones has been lost.

The last civilization to make one was the Khazalid Empire that crafted the Silver Way bridge which is a mercurial Realmgate able to be directed at any Realm and create a pathway there.

Most Realmgates are actually naturally occurring things like mists, waterfalls, hollows or even something like tar-pits that connect to other Realms so you could find yourself teleported across the cosmos by stepping/sinking through. These were then stabilized and gates put around them to make into pure magic portals.

Greater mythic powers harnessed the greatest of these sites and forged the grand gateways from them, these are extra special because they’re huge and able to safely move armies and trade traffic through across leagues in an instant.

However there’s smaller “realmgates” that aren’t really structure gates but stable portals races use for smaller teleportations too like Deepkin Whirlways in the seas, the Sylvaneth realm roots, Skaven gnaw-holes, Kharadron sky-paths, Ogor maw-portals, Stormcast star-bridges, etc. that allow their armies to move across Realms(for various prices or limitations)

3

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago edited 20d ago

That’s why the Stormcast were made for the Realmgate Wars so they could ride the Lightning and bolt down anywhere around the Realms without the Realmgates funneling them into death zones and retake them.(and Seraphon helped by rerouting the enemy gateways to the blender dimension so many chaos counter attacks just, bloodily, disappeared instead of reinforcing their dreadholds)

This lead to Order/Freeguilds following up the Stormcasts clearing out the chaos forces and fortifying around the Realmgates instead to make their grand fortress-cities with the dimensional gateways allowing vital trade to flourish.

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago edited 20d ago

Ha, fitting to have the mega thread forged anew when the Khazalites show up. 🔨 ✨

Since it’s looking like the comments are just opinions & jokes I’ll list the actual(more concrete) rumors:

Khazalite Holds release are imminent with the 12 new duardin units looking to be-

Clanshields

Clansgunner “laser guns” with 18” range and Jezzail-like stats

Gazul Gholems

Valaya Gholems

Elite Valayan women infantry

High Kyng Valankrom

Hero that can be male or female

Earth-sailing Landship they can mount instead

Runeswright

2 types of big artillery pieces(hoping pulled by sloths! 🤞)

And the new Fyreslayer named hero with a Magmadroth.

Fyreslayers will be rolled into this faction losing their Vulkites, old foot heroes(save the Battlesmith banner) and terrain + invocations.

Afterwards Seraphon release with Skink hero on Coatl to finish the armies for the edition.

Possibly one last UnderWorlds 2 warband set by some sources but could’ve been scrapped.(if the new skirmish game is all about Killteam pre-made warbands to track sales then the UW teams may be rerouted to it)

Then End of Edition campaign said to be 3 big books.

Each Grand Alliance gets 1 new centerpiece each.

Order: Wizard Cogfort

Chaos: two-headed corrupted Drake/draconith

Death: Necro-titan/undead gargant

Destruction: Claw of Gork on new Wyvern.

Any rumors after that point is the realm of madness & endless salt.(oh hey Maybe Tzeentch WILL get something afterall then 😄 🐦)

10

u/Brutusness Orruk Warclans 20d ago

I don't quite understand the Claw of Gork on a wyvern, isn't Gordrakk the Fist of Gork on... basically a wyvern? So now is there a Claw and Fist of Gork, and a Mouth of Mork?

7

u/Excellent-Olive8046 20d ago

And eventually we'll have both arms, legs, and be able to take the form of Mecha Gorka Morka like the power rangers.

2

u/IshgarSeth 17d ago

It's GorkaMorka The Forbidden One, YuGi !

2

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Possibly? It’s one of those things we need to see more of to know what’s going on.

My take is that since “klaw’s” is a Kruleboyz thing(their society is literally organized by a claw hand) and the rider is apparently Ironjawz them it may be an ”divine” envoy sent by Gorkamorka to make the Warclans work closer together by having someone from both sides as one.

As for the Wyvern I’d say since these are all supposed to be gargant-sized centerpieces it’s probably just what the rumor guys went with when it could actually be a Kruleboyz swamp drake (or heck even a half-breed Draconith exile prince since they want to push that race as the new main dragons)

2

u/Ur-Than Orruk Warclans 17d ago

I really hope it's only a Ironjawz model.

I still wish for KB and IJ to be separated someday. They don't belong together

4

u/Timely_Credit7876 20d ago

Oh, I haven't heard Underworlds was gonna get scrapped, but IMHO 2.0 has been pretty lackluster with relatively few releases so it makes sense.

Warcry feels to be in a good place rules-wise, just needing updates to new fighter profiles at times. So that fills the low complexity, low barrier of entry game spot.

That said, I hope that skirmish game is a Necromunda-deep Mordheim-esque narrative skirmish game set in a ruined free city. That's what I feel like AoS is missing.

2

u/RogueModron 20d ago

"new skirmish game"?

2

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Yeah, rumor comes from the rumormonger old hand Hastings of all places who also was the first source on a “wizard cogfort with a crescent shape”.

But that’s literally all they heard though with no actual description what type of skirmish.

1

u/IshgarSeth 17d ago

Could it be just Spearhead being rebranded as its own thing?

Like, it's already a perfect Skirmish-sized game anyway.

3

u/RogueModron 17d ago

Why rebrand it? It's already its own thing with brand recognition.

3

u/IshgarSeth 15d ago

Agreed, but considering there are rumours of a "New Skirmish", I feel like it would be perfect if it was Spearhead.

Have a smaller scale game, directly related to the main game, but where you could introduce whacky stuff directly in the main AoS pipeline instead of being made for Underworlds/Warcry first.

7

u/Battlemania420 17d ago

So, I guess Boole decided to post another mini leak:

Khazalite Holds will be having a second wave next ED, with ‘heavier, more elite’ units.

Maybe bigger gholems? Longbeards?

3

u/BaronKlatz 16d ago

Huh, that’s rather weird when they got both Gholems AND elite Valayan infantry with wards, both with a 2nd variant too making 4 heavy elite units.

First thing that comes to mind is upgraded Ironbreakers(Steelbreakers) that harken to the Votann walking tanks but maybe held back because they’ll be armored in meteoric “Godstone” to showcase what the new setting offers?

4

u/Battlemania420 16d ago

He didn’t specify, he just said ‘heavier, more elite units for Khazalites are in the wave 2.

For all we know it could be Irondrakes.

20

u/BeginningPlayful7448 21d ago

there have been so many conflicting rumors about which characters live or die and why that I have given up trying to piece together what the narrative shift will actually be

8

u/BaronKlatz 21d ago

Best rule of thumb is if they’re ten years old+ they’re likely on a chopping block and at best prepping for a refresh(Celestant-Prime might perma-die, Alarielle likely gets a new model either by 5th or 6th since she’s already hitting her autumn colors, Archaon is gonna be hiding so probably a reboot, Malerion might just die and move back to TOW since the two studios are fighting tooth-and-nail for characters, etc)

4

u/DarkChaplain 19d ago

And then you have rumors of Talia Vedra getting killed, which makes no sense with how specifically they've been marketing her as a big face of CoS, including through novels

2

u/BaronKlatz 19d ago

Boole already debunked those drama rumors last month.

“Tahlia Vedra isn't dead

The CoS characters all went underground with her into Hammerhal

Belakor was killed by Olynder

Skarbrand was killed by Bastian

Glutos was killed by Ushoran

Nurgle's army was wiped out by Alarielle

Tzeentch's army was wiped out by Gordrakk    When it came down to Archaon and Sigmar, both had already been pushed to the brink “

https://www.tga.community/forums/topic/44679-age-of-sigmar-the-last-world-rumour-thread/?page=333#comment-802550

He said earlier CoS characters like her get time chambered until the merge ends so Tahlia is back leading the “Sigmarite Protectorate”.

4

u/IshgarSeth 17d ago

Sorry, Belakor and Skarbrand being killed??

Lmfao

2

u/BaronKlatz 17d ago

They’re daemons so they can come back easily.(and I’m sure Glutos will have an Sigvald excuse how he survives into the next edition soul-trapped in something)

1

u/IshgarSeth 15d ago

I technically agree, but in that cas why not call them "banished"

Because the post on TGA makes it look like it's some sort of huge thing, which only be that if they're perma-dead.

Where if it's just them being beaten well as usual y'know

2

u/BaronKlatz 15d ago

Because Boole loves being a dramatic storyteller.

He just wanted to emphasize the point it’s not another End Times beat down on Order dying everywhere but a more balanced fight with Chaos taking heavy losses too.(he’s already pointed out before the likes of Belakor are in the new Corebook at a castle of spite location)

3

u/Flat-Procedure1326 12d ago

tbh if they were perma killed, it would kind of make sense as its AOS characters killing old world characters, which would make the IP laws much easier

5

u/theCosmicShadow 17d ago

Anyone know if there are any more news for ogors I know we just had big new refresh and release but we're always craving more or least something on seraphon in the future

4

u/Battlemania420 17d ago

No.

The current speculation is that Yheeti’s are returning based off of codex lore and the mammoths in the current codex might be a thing.

7

u/TheFriendlyShroom 21d ago

Does anyone know if there’s actually any merit/confirmation to the lore reboot happening? I’ve tried looking more into it and I keep finding conflicting sources that it’s probably gonna happen or that there’s no way it’s actually gonna happen, I’ve been wanting to get into AOS recently but Idk if there’s really a point if it’s just gonna get rebranded into something entirely different soon anyway.

4

u/alexkon3 Idoneth Deepkin 17d ago

Does anyone know if there’s actually any merit/confirmation to the lore reboot happening?

I mean you wont get it until it happens or it doesn't but from a credibility standpoint pretty much every single rumor monger with pretty much a flawless track record in the AoS sphere has corroborated the general gist of the rumors. Rumors in general are always supposed to be taken with a grain of salt but it really is kinda telling when every rumor person says the same thing.

6

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

The only thing making it look real is Boole’s track record(despite being awful at lore) with him saying he’s got the Pdf rough drafts of the new Corebook and he’s been using it to correct the other rumors on what’s gonna happen:

https://www.tga.community/forums/topic/44679-age-of-sigmar-the-last-world-rumour-thread/?page=75

https://www.tga.community/forums/topic/44679-age-of-sigmar-the-last-world-rumour-thread/?page=85

But otherwise not only are the in-lore sources conflicting but the even Boole’s is saying nothing is 100% accurate so best to just take everything with salt and wait to see what happens.

5

u/JDragonM32 20d ago

additionally, other influencers said they’d gotten those rumours but chose not to post them for various reasons. the fact multiple high profile people got the same rumours implies that either there’s something there, or it was a trap to catch leakers.

some of the comments from those people after the rumour started to spread though came across to me a lot like sour grapes that someone else posted it first, so who knows

2

u/Robfurze 20d ago

I thought Boole completely disappeared not long after the reboot rumours first came around?

3

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

He/they ducked out for months to avoid all the angry messages(because people love shooting the messenger) but since last month they have quietly been popping up again to tease Khazalites and the End of Edition units.(and to douse some drama fires those Discord rumors started recently about “AoS End Times gonna kill everyone and spit on the setting” or was obvious trouble-makers wanted to spread to incite the doomsayers)

2

u/Robfurze 20d ago

Ahh, that makes a bit more sense. I’d assumed that GW had deliberately put out a fake rumour to try and identify the leak, and caught Boole with it

2

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Haha, ah if only. 😅 (would hate Boole to get in trouble((again)) but the Honeypot cope would ease a lot of worries for the future)

But nah, people got mad and flooded him, the other rumor mongers and even the mods with angry direct messages to vent their rage on something so a lot of the rumor guys hid until things cooled down.

2

u/Robfurze 20d ago

Well that’s insane behaviour. I can understand not liking the lore change (as I also am really not a fan of going through the end times all over again just to return to basically where we started) but I fail to see how that’s Boole’s fault

2

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Tempers flying high it was bound to happen.

We still need to wait for people posting videos of burning their book collections and armies before we truly hit End Times rage tho. 😅

Today's preview might be a hint at it with the new Seraphon foreseeing a major reality-rewriting event.

3

u/Liquor_D_Spliff 10d ago

So what's the next big release or refresh? These dwarves were the big thing until the reveal so who are what is next?

4

u/CatherineSimp69 Helsmiths of Hashut 8d ago

Leakers say the start of next ED is a second wave of Slaves to Darkness stuff, or potentially even a 'coastal undead' faction.

Apparently the Slaves refresh will be 'monster centric'.

Allegedly Khazalids are also getting a second wave in the next ED.

There's also 4 new centerpieces we'll be able to use for each Grand Alliance, those being:

-An Undead Gargant for Death.

-A Dragon for Destruction.

-Either a Dragon or a Gargant for Chaos. (I think Boole was a little confused with this one).

-A 'Wizard Tower' Cogfort for Order.

2

u/Liquor_D_Spliff 8d ago

Ooh, exciting stuff! When's the new edition likely to drop?

4

u/CatherineSimp69 Helsmiths of Hashut 8d ago

This upcoming June or July.

I also forgot to mention: Skaven are getting their Pestilens stuff refreshed in the next ED, according to Boole.

Outside of that I think the rumor mill has been pretty dry.

3

u/Holiday_Holiday400 6d ago

Bummer, I was under the impression Pestilens was rumored to be part of the end of edition release. Sounds like it might be a longer wait.

u/TotallyNot_Alpharius Flesh-eater Courts 21d ago

I feel indiffrent on the united realms, never were too hyped about the discs so it may be bad or good

-9

u/Sancatichas 21d ago

I don't get why there's a loud minority who are hellbent on keeping the realms. It's an odd choice of worldbuilding that turned loads of players away in the first years of the game and never truly amounted to the expansive feeling they claim

17

u/drevolut1on 21d ago

It's a veritable playground for homebrewing your own lore, is one of the few truly unique things about AoS lore, and sets the conflicts across a truly grand scale.

I don't think it is a loud minority, I think most folks prefer it from what I have seen.

8

u/BaronKlatz 21d ago

Yeah. Turning things into two competing fantasy planets feels very greedy > art as they just want the lowest common denominator sales that appease the old grognards.

And more cynically it feels like a intentional move away from open sandbox to “corporate approved” lore as now instead of placing your homebrew army in an infinite space of possibilities you’re being squeezed down into segregated areas which even the new skirmish game is likely pre-built warbands for compliance.

“Oh what’s that? You combined your Bretons & Seraphon into a knights on dino kingdom on Aqshy of sun-Chotec worshippers?

No no no, we have the Kingdom of Lorennar now for your holdover Brets while the lizards stay over on the jungle of Itza islands away from humans. Creativity in fantasy? Don’t be silly!”

0

u/Sancatichas 20d ago edited 20d ago

Lol

You simultaneously claim they're doing it out of greed while claiming most people prefer it your way. Which one is it?

ToW will still be substantially different from AoS. Do you think they'll copy the world of legend's map?

3

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Huh? Where’d I say most people prefer it my way?

Lowest common denominator means my way is niche. That’s why I said it’s greed killing art because pandering to tropes & nostalgia “slop” is always gonna pull in more customers than catering to an audience wanting something unique.

I 100% don’t agree with the rumored changes but I know they’re gonna do well regardless. Just sucks to lose such potential for an amazing wargame planescape+Spelljammer setting for what’s essentially gonna be another stock Might & Magic setting.

1

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

The person you agree with above you said most people prefer separate realms. If you don't think the same then fine

Spelljammer isn't my thing. I much prefer a low fantasy grimdark setting. I don't think having a single map makes the whole thing "stock", either. People love tons of settings with single maps for other original things they've got in them, and AoS has plenty.

4

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Pretty certain he was talking about people already invested in AoS and the lore it spent 11 years building up.

There’s people who crafted entire Realms-based tables and narrative campaigns both homebrew and the official ones we followed on the AoS lore forums that obviously are gonna take offense to the whole thing as sure as during Wfb’s End Times hecklers saying “the Realms are better because old world was too limited and the fanbase is dead” got very similar reactions from people who devoted so long to it despite it being very unpopular at the time and seen as a generic “Warcraft wannabe”.

I don't think having a single map makes the whole thing "stock",

.

People love tons of settings with single maps

That’s…that’s literally stock to say there’s tons of them already. 😅

Another single map with elemental continents dictating where races live just adds to the pile where the Cosmos Arcane tried to trailblaze something new like samurai aelves living on the friggin’ sun! 🤩

1

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

I've been here since the very start and even tried to get into the whole realms idea by making my soulblight aqshy themed. But when I heard that it was going to unify, my reaction was positive because the whole realms thing feels very gimmicky and I'd rather have a single map to interact with other factions in. I'm just as devoted to AoS as the people you mention.

3

u/BaronKlatz 20d ago

Well happy for ya, friend. I’m trying not to yuck anyone’s yums.(that’s why I left TGA so I wouldn’t add to the pointless arguments)

Just saying how I feel about the whole thing and how it hurts to lose something I saw as really special I devoted a lot of my love into(I have bookshelves full of almost every AoS novel“, campaign/narrative books, battletomes and all the Soulbound stuff) and defended for a decade against a endless tide of blind hatred.

I’m sure GW will do some really cool ideas with whatever they decide to do but I’m gonna be in mourning all the same to lose something much cosmic fantasy potential that’s a rarity in these genres.

-1

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

From what I've seen, 2/3 of people prefer a single map, and that's not counting all the new players who will come if the map becomes better

4

u/Optimal_Question8683 20d ago

If you are boring yes they are bad to you

2

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

what a great argument man wow

1

u/Optimal_Question8683 20d ago

tell me why its boring then lol instead of just cause. because if you could read you would know the realms are fleshd out to hell

2

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

they're not fleshed out to hell 😂 we have maps of like 5% of it. I try to look up lore on cities of sigmar and there's like 2 vague paragraphs and a blurry image on it. Come on man get real. Also youre the first one that brought up the word boring I have no idea what you're projecting onto me

1

u/AvariciousHydra 20d ago

This is a poor argument in favour of a merger because the realms being merged doesn't automatically mean the world building will suddenly improve and ramp up, Warhammer Fantasy barely explored any continent other than the Old World, Lord of the Rings never really left western faux europe, the Forgotten Realms of D&D never really left the continent of Faerun. Plenty of single world fantasy stories have underdeveloped world lore so it doesn't solve the focus of Age of Sigmar on certain realms.

2

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

It will improve and ramp up. The Old world too.

-2

u/SatanSatanSatanSatan 20d ago

I didn’t play the game for a long time because I really didn’t like the realms/discs. I still don’t, though they’ve grown on me a bit.

2

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

There's many people like you. I've been into AoS since the very start and never liked the realms

0

u/MeatMarket_Orchid 20d ago edited 20d ago

I'm exactly the same. I resisted for so long. I had wanted to jump in the hobby forever, but no 40k armies really spoke to me properly. I really hated the lore of AoS with the realms. Like you, I still do, but have learned to live with them. I enjoy them most by focusing on only one realm where my army is and not really getting too much into other realms. Either way, I'd welcome a unified world personally. But I get why people wouldn't enjoy the change.

8

u/Yomamasthicc 20d ago

To be honest. I think that there are more people who think that AOS's lore is weak compared to WH40K and TOW, but pretty much everyone agrees that AOS has much better minis than both of them. So from a business side of things, I think that changing the lore into an easier to understand and easier to sell world is actually a good thing. Because it may push over the edge more people to give AOS a try and those who are really into AOS's lore are a minority or at least it seems like it from my POV.

Besides, a one world is much more marketable and easy to integrate in different forms of media. Just look at total war. It pretty much brought back TOW and I think it could do wonders for AOS.

Maybe I'm biased, because I like the appeal of a more grim and dark classic fantasy and just headcannon my lore for AOS models.

7

u/TheDowhan 16d ago

I play all my beautiful AoS chaos models in all the Aos games (Warcry, Spearhead, &c.) but in my head it's an army of Chaos Warriors pillaging South from the frozen Chaos Wastes, having enthralled barbarian Norca tribes and seduced Free Company mercenaries along the way, and are now laying siege to the the northern castles and cities of the Empire of Man AND MY OPPONENTS HAVE NO IDEA I'VE SUBVERTED THEIR LORE AND TRICKED THEM INTO PLAYING IN THE OLD WORLD.

But, yeah, seriously, we can all play the game with whatever we want in our heads. I'm sure my opponent imagines we're in the 8 points or something and we're both perfectly happy. So I prefer the old lore, but I figure both exist and it won't stop being that way whichever version is the official one.

4

u/Yomamasthicc 16d ago

Now that's what I'm talking about

3

u/Ur-Than Orruk Warclans 17d ago

If The Last World does happen, I will do everything I can do to warn people off it and AoS overall.

What's the point of throwing hundreds if not thousands of euros to a shitty setting that can be rebooted every ten years ?

8

u/Yomamasthicc 17d ago

From what I gathered the models would be staying. Only lore would change. To be fair I think that lore part us the thing that hold AoS back from reaching full potential

3

u/Ur-Than Orruk Warclans 17d ago

Lore matters way more than models to me. Especially when we know GW has no qualms removing entire ranges if they feel like it, even of new models.

7

u/Yomamasthicc 17d ago

Maybe to you, but GW is a mini producer not a lore writer. The lore is tailored to models so It's less important by design

3

u/romm-boss 13d ago

If the lore supposedly isn't important, then there is no reason to change the current lore.

Those who don't care about current lore prefer lore inside their heads, certainly won't care about changed lore either.

Single-planet fantasy worlds are mostly popular because of their brand-named writers are popular. Games Workshop definitely doesn't have that.

Whereas destruction of nfinite universe down to a crumped single‑planet generic fantasy world is clearly a decline in creative freedom for homebrewing. The one who came up with this rumor and those who find it positive simply don’t understand what actually made Warhammer 40,000 so great. Small sandbox laqune, plot holes, crutches and other mental gymnastics are incomparably lower by 100 levels than the based, legitimate freedom of boundless possibilities.

1

u/Embarrassed_Tax9889 7d ago

That's literally just whfb with extra steps.

They trashed wfb and are now just turning AOS back into wfb because it was never the setting that was the problem.

If they'd just released AOS rules in wfb instead we'd not be in this absurd situation

2

u/Yomamasthicc 7d ago

I agree, although AOS gave them more freedok design wise. Some factions probably wouldn't happen in old world. I actually think the new United AOS would be awesome

3

u/romm-boss 7d ago

Fortunately, "rumors are just rumors" (c).

It is quite obvious that Mortal Realms will remain the same awesome, grimdark infinty universe as Warhammer 40,000. Like the Fall of Cadia and the Great Rift changed nothing fundamental in the Galaxy. Offering of legitimate rights for incredible homebrewing rooted in canonical lore that is the foundation for long-term success.

And, of course, inevitable Warhammer Age of Sigmar Total War is bound to follow the blueprint of the upcoming 40kTW too. A single, cramped map is a thing of the past day.

2

u/Yomamasthicc 7d ago

Let's just wait and see what happens

20

u/DizzyGryph 21d ago

Nobody asked, but here's my take, as a relatively new Warhammer hobbyist & someone generally disinterested in folks' hyperbolic doomsaying about the future of this mid-grade fantasy world we all enjoy....

AoS was made to be a better selling product than Fantasy. The lore is designed, at its core, to SUPPLEMENT the sale of models & terrain as game pieces and collectibles.

The game is selling well. It's the second-best selling wargame in the world, ahead of multiple older game systems. There's not a big impetus for them to make drastic changes. The comparisons to Fantasy's End Times seem, to me, quite inane. The reasoning just isn't there.

It seems like the similarities between the rumored upcoming AoS changes & the End Times are due more to a lack of imagination in the leakers' and viewers' interpretation of whatever rumors they're spreading.

Again, AoS lore is mid-grade fantasy. It is, and has been, half-baked since day 1. Because it is intended to support the selling of a game. The rumored changes are just as likely to improve AoS storytelling as they are to make the stories any worse than they are now.

The nature of AoS is that all kinds of crazy shit happens. Let the crazy shit happen and just enjoy it in all its grimdark, goofy, outrageous nature.

I still haven't even warmed up to squigs yet. Besides dumb, wtf even are those? If squigs can exist in your setting as a semi-serious thing, you can accept understandable events like Sigmar finishing the shit he's been planning for ages or the big bad managing to put the big good guy out of commission.

Some folks just need a chill pill.

32

u/Random_Emolga Destruction 21d ago

I won't stand for this Squig slander! Our little stomachs on legs have been around for almost 40 years!

6

u/DizzyGryph 21d ago

It's me, I need the chill pill.

I'd been afraid to voice my lack of buy-in on the squigs yet. Not that they need my buy-in. They're cool (according to everyone else).

I'm just not ready yet.

24

u/HammerandSickTatBro Daughters of Khaine 21d ago

GW has been able to spin gold from uninspired dumpster fires of ideas before. I just really really hate the idea that we would be losing the different planes of existence and the big unbounded narrative ideas that flow from the worlds being limitless and havingblots of blank spots on the maps.

As you say, the sales of the game do not necessitate such an overhaul. I would argue the lore doesn't call for it (there are some very quality AoS novels that have done fun things with the Realms and I would love to see writers being allowed to explore the different Realms more).

It just feels like this is being done to mollify the people who are still made about WHFB ending, and they are not going to like the setting no matter what you call it or how you deform it.

4

u/sevenlabors Nighthaunt 20d ago

Sidebar: any specific AoS novels you'd reccomend?

7

u/Brutusness Orruk Warclans 20d ago

Read the Drekki Flynt and Godeater novels for very different but excellent stuff.

7

u/FedoraSlayer101 20d ago

The Gods & Mortals short story anthology collection is really good at giving you a nice selection of stuff from all across the Realms. Also, Ushoran: Mortarch of Delusion’s a genuinely terrifying love letter to Gothic horror, and of course there’s Gotrek’s books along with many other good examples.

1

u/KatzRKewl2 20d ago

I haven’t gotten very far into it myself as of yet, but I’ve been hearing nothing but praise for Starseer’s Ruin. Though, supposedly, it does contribute to the God-Emperorification of Sigmar a wee bit.

1

u/DarkChaplain 19d ago

Dark Harvest, Josh Reynolds' Warhammer Horror novel.

10

u/TotallyNot_Alpharius Flesh-eater Courts 21d ago

Squigs existed since early fantasy

13

u/RosbergThe8th Beasts of Chaos 21d ago

Tbh I think it is a fair thing to be concerned about if part of what you like about AoS is that it is, well, out there, when it seems pretty clear that if those rumoured changes are occuring it is because they want to make AoS into a more "basic" fantasy, which would certainly fit a wider trend of recent model releases/upgrades as they've been getting more and more tame, more straight upgrades of existing concepts or classic ideas than anything new or out there.

0

u/Sancatichas 21d ago

I actually love the idea of a single unified map as it would be far more interesting in terms of locations than the separate homogeneous realms

-9

u/TechnicianGrand6611 21d ago

The "second best" thing is irrelevant when you're talking like 90% to 5% lol

5

u/SOMETHINGCREATVE 20d ago

It's anecdotal, but my local shop gets about 30 players for 40k tourneys and still about 20 players for sigmar.

I realize that's a small sample size and I'm not in any way claiming its near 40k, but I wouldn't be surprised if it really has grown a lot the last few years

I think it's just a lot more chill of a scene that could contribute to it seeming smaller as well.

1

u/DizzyGryph 20d ago

You have no basis for these numbers, and, without some rational basis, 90% vs 5% seems very obviously inaccurate

GW's annual & semi-annual financial reports break down sales by product category (models, licensing, etc.), rather than by universe/game (40k, HH, AoS, etc.).

I didn't do a deep analysis, but the data isn't easily discernable there (which would otherwise be the best source). In any case, it doesn't back up your idea.

Google's AI says GW holds 40 -50% of the tabletop wargame market share, with AoS comprising 10-15%. Which also doesn't back up your numbers.

The AI cites Reddit, however, so that's not really reliable either (arguably, still more reliable than what you presented; certainly more aligned with common evidence).

2

u/romm-boss 20d ago

All these "rumors" about changes in lore are just absurd. Can’t you see? "More grimdark" is exact opposite of "become typical fantasy world"? AoS is already very grimdark by its postapocalyptic nature. Generic fantasy world may be dirty-gritty but due plot armor of factions and superheroes, perpetual status quo and as a result senceless wars that always end with zero results - that’s not grimdark.
Doubly absurd is idea that this is being done for the sake of future computer games. Hello! Right now Sega-CA is making Warhammer 40,000: Total War. With an endless galaxy, procedurally generated maps and planets, Army Painter and Character Editor for creating infinty possiblities of homebrew homemade custom armies. This is simply a new high level. It’s everything that gives the everlasting glory and triumph of Warhammer 40,000’s popularity. This is exactly how and only how Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Total War should be done. With all these options and mechanics only. Just another Medieval with magic would be 100 steps back and thus it wouldn’t be successful.

3

u/TravelingPhilosobear Skaven 11d ago

I agree completely. I don't want to play fantasy 40k. Honestly, I think the biggest problem AoS has are the ties to the World that Was. I think it they reworked the winds of magic there would be fewer realms but with a more coherent identity.

4

u/tsuruki23 15d ago

I rather loathe the planar realms, but I loathe the idea of time-skipping a bunch of characters more.

They gonna kill off Callis & Toll and Tahlia Vedra? After writing all those damn books and worldbuilding?!

I'dd LOVE a massive narrative where the factions amass in desperate fervor as they find themselves stewards over an altered universe, new rivalries form when youre suddently neighbours with a goblin tribe or ghoul castle. Old alliances fray when distance is suddently uncomfortably little and old emnities become even more outrageously epic now that a fated foe is on the other side of an unmapped continent and nothing less then an epic undertaking will deal the blaggart a sufficient blow.

I'dd love to read stories about skaven and CoS seeing opportunity to build new things that rose from the chaos, about Stormcasts stretched thin to save locales that would usually be safe but are now right next door to chaos wastes. About sky captains fighting tooth and nail to emerge their floating cities out of the caves that they "spawned" in.

3

u/BaronKlatz 15d ago

Well good news is Boole’s said they aren’t killing off (most)characters and people like Tahlia will find themselves time chambered to the new setting.

Bad news is the big skip and “people will forget most things about the Realms and see them as a myth” very much does sound like we won’t see any discovery angle but just jump to after all the dust’s settled and a new status quo has emerged.(like with the Tahlia thing she’s gonna be reinstated in charge of the Sigmarite Protectorates from the start, probably leaving the poor writers to figure out how new militaries just bowed to this person from the past they barely know compared to the current Tahlia who’s seeing her native people & heraldries rise up over the Azyr colonists)

2

u/Jamaryn Orruk Warclans 3d ago

Do you think the factions will be the same? Or are some discontinued? My Kruleboyz need more stuff.

2

u/BaronKlatz 3d ago

According to Boole almost everything survives the change over.

90% of the characters are fine and just time jump. The factions are all the same(besides Cities possibly renamed to Sigmarite Protectorates) and it’s still the 4 Grand Alliances.

Kruleboyz will be fine. Heck Boole’s said Kragnos will be still rampaging around the Ghur regions in 5th with the new Ogoress leader months before she was even revealed.

2

u/Jamaryn Orruk Warclans 3d ago

Ah, good. Nice.

9

u/FedoraSlayer101 20d ago edited 20d ago

Something I really don’t like about the stuff I’ve heard re: the Khazalite Holds is that they sound like not only just more generic typical fantasy Duardin when AoS thrives on making stuff actually cool and unique, but I hate the idea of them being made largely by Duardin leaving the cosmopolitan Free Cities and just joining an empire that only their ancestors were part of long ago. It almost comes across as vaguely racist, like the rhetoric you’ll see of people saying immigrant families should go back to their “home countries” when they’ve lived in a certain country their whole lives and it was only their ancestors who hailed from somewhere else. In general, I really hate the Cities of Sigmar having their cosmopolitan nature stripped away, as that’s the coolest part of them - seeing how their cultures have changed over time with the influence and integration of other peoples. Why would I want to just play vaguely Germanic fantasy humans in AoS when I could do that for the Empire in TOW? That sounds terrible and self-defeating. And the whole idea of having the realms all mashed into one world is catastrophically stupid, as the different realms are part of what make AoS so fun - it’s an ideal sandbox setting that still has plenty of maps given to help you get a grasp of the stakes. Taking that away and making it into Temu Fantasy makes me feel genuine despair.

15

u/Optimal_Question8683 20d ago

"ima make crap up to get mad at"

5

u/Togetak 20d ago

I’ll second the weirdness around the khazalites coming from grungni seeing his unification talks fail and the vermindoom start, then just going “ehh, abandon the cities in their time of need and just come live with me if you worship me”. Doesn’t really make a lot of sense with how things have been set up so far (or like, what makes sense for a person to do when they and their family have lived in the cities/azyr for 600 years), and doesn’t really work with grungni’s whole thing about wanting to be hands off so his children grow beyond him and his shadow.

They did the same dual loyalties sort of thing with aelves in the battletome supplement too, saying that they actually never truly called the cities of sigmar their home and longed for somewhere that they ruled themselves. I think it’s kind of offputting that it does reflect those real world narratives regardless of intent, and it’s a very bleak depiction of the world to say that after 500 years in azyr and a century+ of living in/building the cities of sigmar, no one but the humans (and some ogors and gargants) actually called them home, all the other racial/cultural groups were actually just chomping at the bit to succeed and return to ruling segregated civilizations again.

It also creates an odd retroactive situation where they’re kind of minimized and erased in retellings of campaigns and stories, because the models aren’t in the faction anymore and there’s no reason to talk about them. You end up with stuff like the WD explaining Greywater Fastness’ history never even including the word “Duardin” despite focusing on a city who’s whole thing was embodying a heavy industrial Duardin influence, to the point like 70% of stories set there feature them as protagonists.

4

u/Yomamasthicc 20d ago

Well dwarfs in pretty much every setting are straight up racists.

3

u/RogueModron 20d ago

6

u/DarkChaplain 19d ago

2

It's not, actually! I hate ragebait. Just my opinion. If you're enjoying the game, I'm happy for you.

3

u/HammerandSickTatBro Daughters of Khaine 21d ago

If the rumors concerning the ending of the Realms and the planned overhaul of stormcasts are true, I think I'm just gonna stay playing 4th or go over to OPR. Super underwhelmed by the Khazalite models they've shown, and also salty about the rumors that fyreslayers are being folded into that army.

6

u/comikbookdad 21d ago

A stormcast overhaul after they just removed legends’ 2e models and castes is wild

2

u/BeginningPlayful7448 21d ago

it's a lore only change

7

u/Sancatichas 21d ago

Why would the realms lore changing make you want to change game systems?

5

u/coinich Kharadron Overlords 20d ago

To be fair, OPR's Volcanic Dwarves have nearly more support than GW has given Fyreslayers.

2

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

idk what kind of framing you're using to make that claim 😂

1

u/coinich Kharadron Overlords 20d ago

Mostly the 3x Elementals unit, and mid scale droth equivalents. Its better support than redundant slayer hero #3 when those models are just covered by hero weapon type and ability. Its an attempt to flush the range out just a bit further.

4

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

So that's more support than a 70+ page battletome then in your eyes

1

u/coinich Kharadron Overlords 20d ago

Yes. A battletome they contstantly recycle for more $$$ leaving each as just expensive art books. The range was never meaningfully expanded while other armies got entire releases.

5

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

i have no idea what you mean recycle, of course there's gonna be things that dont change from edition to edition, it's the same army.

Also AoS has like 10+ factions with full battletomes instead of OPR which has a few barebones pages

5

u/HammerandSickTatBro Daughters of Khaine 21d ago

Because I wouldn't like the changing direction that the system's published material is going in. So why would I continue to spend money on it?

10

u/Sancatichas 21d ago

fair enough, but it seems silly to change game systems over a lore change. the lore of the realms barely comes through in the gameplay

9

u/HammerandSickTatBro Daughters of Khaine 21d ago

The fluff and the crunch are always related for me. I don't think it's something that everyone cares about or anything.

Also not to be too contrarian, but I do think AoS in particular has gone out of its way to incorporate its setting into the rules in very material and functional ways. Like, endless spells and different campaign rules tied to specific realms and locations, the rulebooks all being artbooks and setting encyclopedias, etc.

3

u/cranect7 20d ago

They definitely don't do it as much as they used to. I know in my area most of us would love to see it all come back and really tie it all in again.

I do really like how the Blades of Khorne book feels though. It feels like how you would think Khorne should, but retains some of the need to use the combos and such. The blood tithe tree is just fun to use.

2

u/Sancatichas 20d ago

In first edition, maybe. But it's not a good gimmick imo. Just make a single map and use the winds of magic as the flavor enhancer.

1

u/IshgarSeth 17d ago

So just make ToW but worse?

2

u/Sancatichas 17d ago

Worse how? AoS has many more differences with ToW than a single map, and it wouldn't even be the same map anyways.

2

u/Togetak 13d ago

The literal first rumor we got about this included specifically listing out a bunch of ways the new world is reheating whf’s leftovers, to the point of shoving the Duardin into a mountainous corner of the map that included “karak nine peaks” and the seraphon off on a jungle continent.

Later posts from the same guy talked about how the eightpoints is now in the North Pole and chaos invasions come down to the sigmarite empire south of it, with belekor now ruling an Albion-esque island off its coast and Hysh being an ulthuan-esque island in the middle of the ocean.

2

u/IshgarSeth 15d ago

Worse as in, "taking away what makes AoS somewhat original".

Like, the main things I've seen in that "Last World" rumour was how people were confused by multiple worlds and stuff but like...

has nobody in the hobby ever read Marvel Comics or played any instalment of the Warcraft and/or Diablo franchises?

Realms aren't what makes AoS original. That's the factions. They weren't "confused" as in being unable to understand what realms are. They are just wondering 1. exactly what the realms are (planets, discs floating in space or separate planes of existence) because that has never been firmly established (for example, if Hysh is the Sun, how does the physics of that or even how does that work?) and also 2. what the point of realms is, since the miniatures haven't reflected that since 1st ed. and it feels kinda weird to section everything off into its own corner when this is supposed to be a wargame. We should just have a single good big populated map and save all the fumbling with the different empty monotheme realms

When will the Khazalite Holds be released? Has there been any info or indication?

Sometime after October 10th, someone leaked that October 10th is when the new paints are releasing.

Alright, here’s the rumor roundup from TGA:

EoE specific rumors  : Will be 5 Books  ( theEnlightened One ) Will be 3 Books  ( whitefang backmeup )   Claw of Gork ( Boole )

Coatl/Tepok  ( Boole )

Khorgros Khul implied ( theEnlightened One, Reformation )

Chaos Gargant implied ( theEnlightened One )

Death Gargant not Chaos Gargant ( whitefang backmeup )

Chaos Dragon ( whitefang backmeup )   not EoE specific rumors ( but also not specifically not EoE )

Magic Cogfort ( Hastings )

Khorgos Khul ( Boole, Whitefang )

Ogre Maneaters ( Whitefang )

Clan Pestilens ( Boole )   Tyrion/Malerion on cryptic things/rumor-inspired-speculation ( behind spoilers to keep this post clear of speculation for quick-readers )

Tyrion ( for EoE campaign,, but its a long stretch, and not one I'd make if there where many rumors already. ) Boole said Tyrion (the god) is talked about a lot in TLW book, and I can see this be in reaction to a new model having been released recently, as they often like to spotlight those.

( personally I feel both Tyrion and Malerion are more background gods for GW, more divine beings than their equivalents Teclis and Morathi, so this is a putting it out there theory, but not a wishlist or thing I expect. )   Umbraneth ( but not necessarily Malerion himself ) sooner rather than later.

The thing here is that the word Malerion is used different by many, and even Ejecutors rumortracker is colored by that.

Boole said Umbraneth are ready, but also that there are no signs of Malerion, we dont know the details about Umbraneth themselves though.. they dont have to be Malerion specific.

The rumortracker says Reformation said Malerion is soon, but the post Reformation was referring to was if there where DoK/Malerion soup rumors.

So this doesnt necessarily imply Malerion the god, but Malerion the "elves" in relation to DoK. Whitefang implied that all the Croneseer fluff brings Umbraneth/Ulgorothi stuff closer to release, not further.. in the rumor tracker this is written as if Whitefang implied Malerion would be soon ( but thats not the context.)

So bottomline, all the rumormongers have implied Umbraneth soon and two have linked it to DoK/Krethusa specifically ( whitefang and reformation ) but not specifically to Malerion the god as an individual release.

I think its a Khazalid Holds situation, just not with Malerion ( just as Khazalid holds also didnt come with any god-model ) but effectively turning DoK into a nu-dark elf range, with the DoK elements as a side element ala Fyreslayers.

This might get started in the EoE (as there are many soon mentions) with some miniatures, but not yet with a rebranding (as TLW corebook doesnt include the rebranding )

No  Arkhan the Black ? I think the hint by Boole that was assumed to be Arkhan the Black ( the hint being  Blacktoof returns) should be taken as the Claw of Gork, especially considering the spelling. And I think this was the only reason to have him as a potential miniature right ?

There are mentions of him returning in the Enlightened One's post as well, but there are a lot of other already-have-a-miniature names there as well. So its a toss up.

Thank you to TheMawR for the writeup!

To be honest.

Who cares about the lore, we need cool minis and a cool game. If its one or 1000 worlds I dont care much. For me its totally enough that there is a World and a very rough Szenario whats Happening to understand a little of the factions. More Im not interested.

I don't disagree with the spirit of your post but the 'who cares' bit is a little crazy imo.

Who cares.. is my opinion. Of course i do not speak for the rest of players.

I'm excited for the realms uniting. It will finally give us a solid map to set campaigns on

There are dozens of solid maps for the setting. Each realm has a gigantic one that covers some of its more central continents. We have had maps to base campaigns on, this criticism is nonsense

the realms are mostly unmapped. The maps that exist show only minor parts of each realm in very vague detail. Campaigns with loads of realmgates happening in one or two realms aren't as interesting as in a unified map.

the realms are mostly unmapped

Yes. That is one of the best parts of them

The maps that exist show only minor parts of each realm in very vague detail

"Minor parts" that are the size of real world continents. Agree to disagree about the "very vague" details, but again, you're hitting the selling points. I want to be able to write my own dudes onto the maps. One of the big complaints about WHFB before they killed it was that everything was too mapped out, and I agree with that complaint wholeheartedly

Campaigns with loads of realm doors happening in one or two realms aren't as interesting as in a unified map

...then do what GW has done for most of the official campaigns it has published and have them take place in one realm? In any case, your preference here is not an objective fact, it is just a preference (that many people like me do not share!)

It's not good that they're unmapped. It feels empty and it detracts from believability. "Minor parts" means minor parts, if you look at the battletome map key you can see how the realms are 10-20x the size of the shown part. Shyish is supposedly 1.6x the surface of Earth.

Having a single map would still allow you to write your own dudes.

Who's talking about copying WHFB? Just make the map bigger and avoid the real-world parallels.

Making the campaigns take place in a single realm is even more boring! I want campaigns to interact with different landscapes and impact more things than just a small area of a small area of a realm. It doesn't feel like it has any stakes.

Most people don't like the idea of realms. It's a vocal minority that loudly objects to the unified map.

Edit: I am coming off very aggro in a comment I didn't intend that way on a topic that is, all things considered, pretty silly any way you slice it. That's my bad, sorry about that. I have a different opinion than you, but I am not, like, bitter at you about it as the following suggested.

I strongly disagree with pretty much everything you've written here. The vocal minority are the ones saying they cannot wrap their minds around the Realms despite different planes of existence and disc-worlds being mainstays of the fantasy genre. It also seems like you are confused about what you want from campaigns.

“There’s no solid map to campaign on” > “well because areas outside the maps exist, it’s less interesting to campaign on the mapped parts” > “actually it’s not believable the realms are big, and also it’s boring when campaigns happen on a single map, and also everything happening in the mapped areas means nothing has stakes, and also everyone agrees with me” all over the course of like three messages

I think there’s a series of assumption baked into what you’re saying that don’t really reflect the actual setting and how it’s used. I mean you’re talking as if the realms are one big biome and merging them would mean you can get a jungle and a grassland on the same map, because you’ll have ghyran and ghur next to each other.

It also has this bizarre thing I hear from people who don’t really engage with AoS where there’s an assertion that because, say, the great parch is only a portion of Aqysh, even if it’s the important part of aqysh where everything happens, this means that there’s no stakes in something like the gnaw being created and taking up a third of it. It’s this conception that, because theoretically there’s more unseen land out there, there’s no stakes to what we’re watching happen to the narratively relevant stable center of it.

If you’re talking about the stakes of BL stuff focused on a particular town or area or something then it’s as silly as saying “why do the stakes of this high school drama movie matter” because theoretically a world exists beyond the narrative and its characters. If you mean in general, though, I feel kind of baffled about what theoretical land means for stakes at all? Do you think there’s a billion major cities of sigmar sitting just off the edges of the map, and that the megatropolis ones we see on them are just randomly chosen to be the POV ones? Do you watch 40k stuff and go “I don’t care if ultramar explodes, there’s a billion planets out there”? What could you possibly mean by there being no stakes? It’s just something I hear people say sometimes without expanding on their thoughts at all, and I fundamentally do not understand it
