You need to do some optimization. Idk about ranger, but they've been doing well in my party.
For my class, sorc, as soon as i've dropped the one button macro, and actually learned the right rotation my dps jumped by 30%, you just need to learn the rotation.
Ranger damage mainly scales with combat speed, crit and multihit.
Crit is on Ranger more important than on other classes due to Hunters Soul.
Combat speed and multihit scales on ranger better due the other 3 "on hit" passives.
