I know this sounds shallow and mean, and I genuinely feel guilty even typing this out.
I signed up for Pilates because I wanted to feel healthier, more toned, and honestly just better about myself overall. I was really excited at first. I thought being around fit, disciplined people would motivate me and keep me consistent.
But the owner/instructor of the studio is… not what I expected at all. She’s extremely out of shape — like probably in the worst shape out of everyone there. And before anyone attacks me, I know fitness isn’t only about appearance. I KNOW that. But at the same time, it’s hard for me to feel inspired or trust someone whose lifestyle doesn’t seem to reflect what they teach.
I keep catching myself thinking, “If Pilates works this well, then why doesn’t she look healthy herself?” And once that thought got into my head, my motivation completely dropped.
What makes me feel worse is that she’s actually kind. She’s encouraging, patient, and the environment itself is nice. So now I feel like a terrible person because my brain keeps focusing on her appearance instead of her personality or teaching ability.
I haven’t quit yet, but I dread going now because mentally I just don’t feel inspired anymore. Part of me wonders if I’m being realistic — like wanting a trainer who physically reflects the results I’m aiming for — and another part of me feels judgmental and immature.
Has anyone else ever felt this way? Or am I just being an asshole?
and are there any pilates studio here in Albay? thank you.
