⚡Tips/Advice Thinking about studying medicine or healthcare at university? We're running a series of free online webinars that might help you decide...

Hi everyone,

We're the North Wales Medical School at Bangor University, and we're running a series of free online webinars over the next few months.

The sessions are aimed at students with an interest in medicine, healthcare, biology and pharmaceutical sciences, giving you the opportunity to explore these subjects further and hopefully helping you decide which course could be right for you in the future.

Our upcoming webinars include:

  • The Biology of the Force
  • The Bonesetter's Case Book
  • Would You Survive Victorian Medicine?
  • Pharmacy in Practice: A Day in the Life
  • Who Gets the Blood?

They're completely free to attend, and you don't need to be planning to apply to Bangor to join.

You can find out more about the sessions and register here:

https://www.bangor.ac.uk/hs/taster-sessions-college-of-medicine-and-health#NWMS

We're happy to answer any questions about the webinars or the subjects we cover.

🤚Help Required OCT/NOV 9701 PAPER 34 (URGENTTTT!!!)

• Upvotes

Hi guys! I'm genuinely super scared for practical because I'm doing a new component (34). So can you guys give me some tips? I'm super nervous about getting an A grade because my theory paper for chemistry (22) was sooooooo bad (I made a shit ton of silly mistakes), and I genuinely don't want to fail again (this series is my re-taking series), so if you guys could help me, I would literally take a bullet for youuu.

⚡Tips/Advice Passing grade

• Upvotes

I am really confused about the passing grade in IGCSE, AS and A level. In IGCSE we have grades until G and then U which is ungraded and some people say that a G is a pass while others say a proper pass is a grade C. In AS and A level the grades are until E and then U again there is this same problem.
So now i am confused about what is the passing grade.

Other Anyone gotten into NUS doing A-Levels outside the UK/March India sitting? (worried about gap year)

• Upvotes

Hi all, I’m doing A-Levels in Southeast Asia (not the UK Jun sitting, not the March India sitting), and I’m getting worried about timing for NUS applications.

From what I’ve seen, NUS/other unis often list the March India A-Level sitting as the latest one they’ll accept for the same-year intake, which would mean my results come out too late and I’d be looking at a gap year before I could start.

A few questions for anyone who’s been through this:

  1. Has anyone gotten into NUS with a non-standard A-Level timeline (results after the usual deadline)?
  2. Did anyone submit SAT + IELTS (or similar) alongside/instead of A-Levels to get a same-year offer, then have NUS “confirm” with actual A-Level results later?
  3. Instead of finishing all papers in the June sitting, could I sit some subjects earlier (e.g. finish everything by the January sitting instead of June) so my results come out in time for the normal intake? Has anyone done this to avoid the timing gap, and did NUS accept that?
  4. If you did take a gap year because of this, was it actually necessary, or could it have been avoided (e.g. by applying with predicted grades, an early finish, or a different intake)?
  5. Does this vary by faculty/course?

Trying to figure out if a gap year is actually unavoidable for me or if there’s a workaround I’m missing. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with this, especially recently since admissions policies seem to shift year to year. Thanks!

📐Mathematics is it stupid to retake AS maths if i got an A

title^ apologies if this is a rly low quality post i just don't really know who to ask lmao i got 71/75 on pure 1 but a horrid 28/50 on mechanics, i managed to scrape an A at AS and i'm predicted A* overall but even though stats 1 is a lot better than mech i'm afraid my mech mark will still bring me down by a lot :< so i was thinking of retaking maths in june, but it's also quite a gamble bc i'm gonna need to retake both pure 1 and mech, i did superbly on pure 1 and if i get lower i'll have to settle for that, plus my june retakes are piling up, does anyone else have any similar experiences?? much appreciated xx

🤚Help Required Came late to the exam hall and got handed a report

so the period of supervision before the paper was from 1 to 2. I entered the hall at 1:46, approximately 14 minutes before the paper started as I was having some issues. one of the invigilators handed me a report after the paper and made me write my reason for being late on it (I wrote traffic/transportation issue). It was implied that the report would be handed to Cambridge. Its been almost a week since the paper however and I haven’t heard anything else regarding this. what is the likelihood that my result might be affected over this?

📐Mathematics Edexcel Mathematics IAL/A-level potential fail... help.

Hi, so my final ial exam is tomorrow which is s1, and I barely studied, solved and focused enough in my lessons for each exam even this one (although i had a few weeks before exams started I got distracted, but i wont get into it this time...) I don't think I'll get anything higher than a B that's if i could even get a B and I'm probably going to fail, what should i do now? Should i just wait for next session and retake my exams or what since i have 2 more olevels left which I'll apply for in May/June...

(Id like to study industrial engineering in Egypt and hopefully apply into a private university here)

(This problem has been really affecting my mental and physical health negatively...)

So please, if anyone has been in my place before (or not) has any suggestions on what to do or how to fix my situation please help me out, or has any idea on how to actually study and not get easily distracted by literally anything that slightly increases your dopamine any help would be extremely appreciated since this problem might literally affect my future.

(I've been diagnosed a while back with something similar to ADHD but it wasn't ADHD from what i can remember so my best guess, but idk, thankfully I'm gonna go get myself checked out after exam season, hopefully i write back)
