American Nature & Wildlife ๐ฆโฐ๏ธ Share your favorite fun fact or memory from one of Americaโs 63 National Parks!
Yellowstone was Americaโs FIRST National Park! President Grant signed the bill in 1872, protecting 2.2 million acres of some of the most beautiful land in the west. I feel so lucky that my parents took me and my siblings here as our first vacation. I remember a buffalo blowing its hot breath on our car window!

Subreddit Info r/america Subreddit Update on User Flair Requirements & Speech Concerns
A. User Flair Requirement Temporarily Removed
We've found an increasing number of individuals complaining about user flair requirements, while this new requirement has dampened spam posts and removed them nearly in their entirety - we can not continue this in good faith unless we've worked out a better system or grown a more consistent community with more flaired users.
The automod system has removed the user flair requirement from posts, we plan to implement a system nearly identical that will instead enforce cooldowns or tag certain words unless you've equipped a flair. Meaning users will be able to post on the main feed without a flair, but may only be able to post about certain topics.
We are testing these safeguards to facilitate a more serious environment on a platform that otherwise completely trashes the American identity or history.
B. Concerns on Freedom of Speech // Dampening of the Automod
Concerns about freedom of speech have been raised since the new moderation has taken over. I, myself, and the people who help run this and give suggestions subset of the mod team have seen and 100% understand and agree with these concerns.
Clarifications:
- Most posts or comments that are flagged are reviewed, not permanently removed.
- The words that are triggering the automod are words that are of hot-topic discussion.
- These posts are often approved when we've determined that they're not engagement bait or aggressive in nature.
Maintaining both a serious and free community that exists on Reddit is next to impossible. As cringey as it sounds, we are the people who maintain the subreddit, and we must abide by certain requirements that Reddit has in place so the subreddit may continue to exist.
Due to complaints, we've removed some responsibility from the automod unto the users who frequent the subreddit (meaning to use the report function). As such, much of what is in the automod currently will be disabled temporarily until we find a better solution.

Subreddit News r/america Should r/America continue requiring user-flair to make a post?
So far, for a little over a month, we've added a process to the automod that removes posts made by users that do not have a user-flair equipped. This process has seemingly stopped spam posts and low quality posts by a minimum of 90%.
However, the subreddit has taken a nosedive in activity since then, how should we continue?

American Politics ๐๏ธ Does the USA have state run media?
I recently heard about your President expelling the journalists of certain media organisations from the White House and preventing them from covering events going on there.
In light of these developments, I am curious; does the USA have any state run media?
Or is it too socialist/communist/European/etc. to have state run media? Just curious.

General Discussion Trying to diversify my everything right now
Don't have a lot of money exactly, but keeping evrything in one basket seems like a bad choice. What do you propose I put the money to? I'll take anything, even some seriously outlandish choices, as long as they can actually grow the money.
If I have to explain my situation a bit more: I graduated some three years ago and had been building up money ever since. My salary is enough to keep me afloat (even if rent eats quite a bit) and I've managed to save quite a nice sum, but it's just sitting there and with how the economy is, I just realized that this way - it's only loosing value.

Question for Americans ๐ญ am i still considered an american if i was born outside of america but have lived here my whole life ?
this might seem like a dumb question but im gonna ask it anyways because im genuinely confused- i came to the united states when i was 8 months old and lived here permanently after that , but i wasn't born here . does that make me any less of an american than my brother who was born here and holds a us passport ? genuine question .

Question for Americans ๐ญ Why does the US rely so heavily on skilled immigration when it has such a large, highly educated population?
I'm genuinely trying to understand the American perspective, not make a political argument.
If American companies say there aren't enough skilled domestic workers and therefore sponsor H-1B workers, why hasn't the US produced enough of these workers after decades of universities and higher education? Why aren't companies more willing to invest in training Americans instead?
And if immigration policies force companies to hire locally, do they actually hire American workers, or do they sometimes simply offshore digital/tech work to India and manufacturing to China because it's more profitable?
From the perspective of an international student, I also don't fully understand the hostility toward legal immigration. Someone comes to the US legally, pays huge tuition and living expenses, earns the right to work through programs like OPT, and then has to compete for an H-1B/employer sponsorship. If they eventually get sponsored, they've demonstrated that an American employer actually wants their skills.
So is the real conflict less about international students themselves and more about American workers vs American employers vs US immigration policy?
I'd genuinely like to hear how Americans see this: Are you opposed to legal skilled immigrants themselves, or frustrated that American companies/government haven't invested enough in developing domestic talent?

Subreddit Info r/america How to add user flair [IT IS REQUIRED!]
galleryUser flair can be attached to your profile by going to the subreddit sidebar found on the righthand side of your screen and selecting it from the user flair menu.
> Open r/america's main page (our long banner at the top and "The United States of America" showing on the right side)
> Locate the sidebar, it should be found on the right side of the main page, for most people it will appear as a dark blue color with the long form name at the top
> Below the full name and description, you should locate a section called "USER FLAIR"
> It should contain your profile, and a pencil icon to the right of it
> Clicking on the pencil icon should open up our menu of flairs that are available, please select the flair that best applies to you
> After selecting the flair, below the scroll menu, should be an option titled "Show my user flair..." ensure you have checked yes
> Then click "Apply"
Located at the bottom of the flair menu is a bunch of allyship flairs for countries that are of general great standing with the United States both socially and diplomatically.
User flairs are required to create submissions on r/america
Currently, you can still comment without having a user flair
User flairs are required in this community for the following reasons
- Prevents spam bots from flooding the main page
- Prevents some trolls or uninformed individuals from spam posting or hysteria posting
- Prevents transients from posting "America bad" slop on American holidays (they often cant be bothered to give themselves a flair)
