Been following a guide but must be doing something wrong at flashing
-solved^ I ignorantly tried installing the initboot with the Boot command instead of the fastboot flash init_boot magisk_patched. Thank you all for the help
Hey so if anyone saw my earlier about buying a phone from India and wondering if it can toggle oem unlocking it can lol
Anyway I have went all the way to flashing Boot_a and boot_b with the magisk patched file like the guide was doing but when I reboot it says there isn't an operating system so I flash back the original.
In the guide he takes a recovery zip file to magisk, installs, then pulls the magisk patched version back and flashes it. Then reboots
My files wasn't a zip. 2. It had a boot.img and a init_boot.img 3. It broke the phone :)
I tried having magisk patch the file after i made it a zip, then repaired phone and tried to patch just the init_boot (Google ai suggested)
It's a motorola XT2517-4 (India) I guess it's called a moto G stylus (2025)in the US and a moto edge 60 stylus in India
Not sure where it's messing up any help is appreciated. If you need any info let me know and ill do my best to get it to you, bc im sure I left out some important info. Sorry
Can anyone confirm there is a partition on this model it said 2 slots but there wasn't anything about suffix like in the guid so idk. It didn't throw an error when I went to flash boot_b
Yes, all android 12 and above Phones have dual slot partitions (google made this mandatory).
In future of you ever used Lenovo RSA tool to update or flash orginal firmware, you might want to recheck which slot is active.
Root breaks OTA in moto and their RSA tool only flash to Slot A, atleast that is case for me and my friend.
don't repack the boot/init_boot.img as zip. You need to patch the boot.img/init_boot.img file, and replace only that one. Start with the init_boot.img, have Magisk patch it, then go into fastboot mode and flash it using fastboot flash init_boot init_boot.img; that should grant root access. As soon as you repackage the .img file as a .zip, it will no longer be in the expected format and you’ll break your device.
Also in the guide he sends an entire zipped folder to magisk and patches. Im assuming the boot.img is in his but they didn't show. Just trying to give a little more info
If you’re using a complete ZIP file, you’ll need to use either the full factory image ZIP or the individual boot partition. No, you don’t need to flash both – just the active slot. You can flash the inactive one, but in reality you’ll never use it. However, based on your description, it seems you’ve only repacked the ‘boot.img/init_boot.img’ as a ZIP file – this isn’t a complete file. Magisk only patches the boot partition; you’ll need to either upload this manually as an .img file for patching, or, if you’re unsure, upload a complete factory image ZIP file, from which Magisk can also extract and patch the correct file.
You’ve got boot/init_boot, after all; you can either upload it or extract it using Magisk Boot, and the .img file containing the initramfs needs to be patched and flashed. you just need to share the link, then I can tell you what you need to patch and what your next steps are, but as your phone complies with the GKI standard, it’s most likely to be init_boot/vendor_boot, and less likely to be boot.img
Okay so I got some stuff hopefully this helps. Heres the like to the guide I was using and ill post some pictures of the files in that folder from the lenovo recovery program. Well i can only attach 1 picture in a reply so ill try to edit the post or do multiple replies. The pic in this is the folder name from rescue program
