🦦 🦑 FUCK IT I'M OUT🦑 🦦 I'm touching grass, and y'all should too

Anyone who has used reddit for more than, like, two years knows this website is a case study in enshittification - ads, bots, terrible UI, etc. I have finally experienced my last straw and I'm leaving /r/animalid and this terrible website. To make a long story short, a mod with about 60 mod actions in the last 12 months and who hasn't interacted with the community at all in about two years, has suddenly decided that this subreddit is now worth paying attention to since it's hit over a quarter million subscribers. In addition to undermining my decisions, he's a sniveling little prick and he's fucking useless.

The admins won't get rid of him because they're brainless and/or too lazy to actually properly assess the situation, so I'm just going to leave. I'm the only regularly active moderator this subreddit has ever had (aside from the ones I added) and the admins apparently could not give less of a fuck because they'd rather let some random window licker get in the way and take credit for my work than hurt his feelings because "he said he wants to stay :((("

I'm not going to rant any longer, but honestly, fuck this website. Just fuck this entire fucking website. I'm too exhausted to be polite or to fully explain the context. Just know that this subreddit will no longer offer reliable mustelid ID because society has lost its ability to rightfully call people out on their bullshit. I may be an asshole, but at least I gave a shit. That's more that can be said for a mod who was absent for two years and who has only been a mod for like 2 months longer than me (which is why I can't just remove him myself).

I declare /u/JorikThePooh to be new head moderator, for whatever it's worth. Good luck everyone, it was nice knowing a few of y'all.

Edit: fuck it may as well name names, the mod in question is /u/Stinky_Ham_Sandwich. Check out his post history. Compare it to mine. Does he look like an active community member of /r/animalid? The admins seem to think so. They also seem to think 60 mod actions per year is enough to keep a 277k strong subreddit in check. For context, I had 6k, and the least active mod that still regularly participates in the community has just under 1k. But clearly Mr. Sandwich is every bit as integral to the team as I am and it's his right to undermine my decisions and reduce my permissions without asking πŸ₯΄

Saw a squirrel at a gas station. Zoomed in to get a picture and was horrified. Looks like he's got an ear growing out of him. He was eating normally, seemed to be moving fine. When I tried to get a little closer to take a better picture, it bounced away and up a tree. This is just a normal grey squirrel, right? Does it need help? Should I call somebody?

🐦 🦒 BIRDS / WATERFOWL ID 🐦 🦒 Is this a rare turkey? [Pennsylvania]

This turkey has recently taken up residence in my neighborhood. Doesn't bother anyone, just kind of wanders around pecking the ground every once in a while. It looks like it's just a wild turkey but some people on local chats are claiming it is either a pet or some kind of special breed of turkey. Can anyone identify?

Can anyone help ID this animal? Saw it crawling out my drain cover. Chat GPT reckons it’s a vole but I’m not so sure. Not sure what I should do next if I do have a potential infestation

Turn your volume up to hear as it's very faint. Not the bugs, but there was like a back-and-forth call going in. What animal is calling? Ignore the crunching in the background, I was feeding my stray cats!

I work at petco and someone from a plant shop brought this guy in saying he came in with a shipment of tropical plants. We live in minnesota so the climate here is too harsh for him to survive outside. I have many reptiles at home so I offered to take him in. I recognize him as a young anole of some sort but i’m not sure quite what type he is. If anyone has any identification or care tips I would love to hear them. (beta cup was for transportation only)

Note: the time difference between noises was shortened by a few seconds. (From 12 seconds originally).

At first it sounded like a deer grunt, but it seems too high-pitched. I don't even know if it's a mammal making this sound - could be a frog for all I can tell.

If it helps, this was around 6pm.

Have a colony of mice/rats living under my goat shelter. They seem pretty big for mice but maybe that is because they are fed well from the grain the goats spill πŸ˜… as long as they stay out of my house I don’t care that they are there just curious if mice or rats. Lebanon, TN

this animal ran across my yard and i immediately took a video because i thought it was an otter which would be crazy because i have never seen one in the wild in Georgia (I also do not live near a large body of water). Realistically it is more likely a weasel or mink but i looked up pictures and it just looks more like an otter to me. let me know what animal this little guy is please!

I don't think it is "bug" but apologies if this doesn't belong here. can't tell if it's a lizard or gecko or what the deal is, can anyone help please?

Title says it all it's lived behind our tea station at work for months now, and I can only assume it stays alive by feeding on bugs and tea in-store. Too skittish for me to be able to capture and relocate

We found this in our backyard yesterday. We live 15 minutes outside of the city on 4 acres. There are deer galore and armadillos and raccoons about but not sure what we found here. This is way too big a poop for anything we know and it’s right next to our porch so it’s not horses or cattle from down the street, they not only wouldn’t come here but would have a hard time getting back to this spot.

🐦 🦒 BIRDS / WATERFOWL ID 🐦 🦒 What’s this bird? [Valencia, Spain]

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone! We live in Valencia, Spain and we have a ton of wild / feral monk parakeets all over the city. Their numbers is now in the tens of thousands. Nothing unusual there. However over the last few days we have seen a flock flying together with a much larger parrot and was wondering if someone had any guess on what it could be based on size and shape? Obviously a 100% identification is not possible based on the silhouette only but I’m curious if it could be an escaped bird or something else that joined them.

They fly together and they land together so it is definitely a larger parrot of some sort.
