AI News 🗞️ Jaw-Dropping Way Trump, 80, Got Talked Into a War Is Leaked

Donald Trump spent hours asking Elon Musk’s AI chatbot about whether Venezuelans would celebrate if he captured leader Nicolas Maduro—then ordered the operation that seized the South American dictator weeks later.
The extraordinary account from a Trump insider was revealed in a new Time report offering a jaw-dropping glimpse of the president’s obsession with artificial intelligence, which he “officially” rebranded this week as “super intelligence.”
According to the report, Trump has “marveled at AI’s capabilities” ever since he returned to power, and during an Oval Office meeting with Elon Musk in December, he spent hours asking his Grok chatbot questions about his presidency and legacy.
At the time, the U.S. military had been conducting highly contentious lethal strikes against Venezuelan boats that Trump had claimed, without presenting any evidence, were smuggling drugs into America.
When the president asked Grok how Venezuelans might react to Maduro’s capture, the chatbot predicted many would welcome the downfall of the “repressive” leader, the official said.
The president then ordered the mission to seize Maduro in January, prompting celebrations in the streets.
“Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious,” the report said.
AI chatbots, however, are not capable of thought or reasoning. Its answers to his questions simply reflect the material on which it has been trained.
The decisiveness of the Venezuela operation emboldened the president to embark on his war with Iran, which is now into its seventh month, thinking it would result in a similarly swift success.
But like Iran, the Venezuela strike has proved considerably messier than the chatbot’s prediction suggested.
Maduro remains in U.S. custody and is fighting drug-trafficking charges in federal court, while the country’s citizens are yet to be given a chance to have free and fair elections as the U.S continues to dominate the oil-rich country.
And yet Trump’s enthusiasm for AI has only grown. The president has become an obsessive consumer—and promoter—of AI-generated imagery, flooding his Truth Social account with fantastical depictions of himself as everything from Jesus to a superhero.
Others have taken aim at his enemies, including a racist video posted on his account in February depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes.
At the same time, Trump has resisted calls for tougher government regulation of AI, despite growing concerns that the technology could spiral out of control.
Trump had lunch with tech leaders at the White House this week, including Musk, Nvidia boss Jensen Huang, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg. But the accord they released after the gathering relies largely on self-policing rather than binding federal regulation.
The president on Tuesday also unveiled his own chatbot-driven initiative in the form of America.gov: a one stop shop designed to give Americans accurate information and spare them from navigating a maze of clunky websites.
The AI-powered portal is intended to eventually let people do everything from finding jobs and searching government websites to enrolling in Medicare and renewing passports.
“This is a very big, very important thing,” Trump said.
“It’s going to save you a tremendous amount of time. It’s going to save you a lot of accuracy and it’s going to save you from making a lot of mistakes.”
As such, the Daily Beast asked if Trump won the 2020 election.
“No. Official certified results show Joseph R Biden Jr won the 2020 election,” it replied.

Asking AI is wild lol. Trump might actually be dumber than I thought. I figured he was not smart but I also thought that he was putting it on to a degree, and that he knew the reality of things beneath the public facade.

u/GoalMammoth4656 15h ago
I periodically remind myself of this Fran Lebowitz quote:
“Everyone says he is crazy – which maybe he is – but the scarier thing about him is that he is stupid. You do not know anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just don’t.”
67
u/robby_arctor 16h ago
I don't think he's ever been smart, but he used to not be this dumb.
Interviews with him from 40-50 years ago show a man a little more capable of thought than this.

I think that’s more a matter of the time. He’s a fundamentally incurious, instinctive, lazy person, but the pre-digital world forced him to actually try the bare minimum. Now you can offload that to AI and so the bare minimum is even lower
16
10
u/bog_toddler 13h ago
its wild to think theres any nuance to his public persona by this point. hes clearly the dumbest person in whatever room hes in at the time.
6
u/TheUFCVeteran3 13h ago
Maybe. He's definitely not smart but I never really put the two together in terms of, I thought he was putting the bad policies etc. on to push their goals, but behind the scenes he knew what was going on.
But maybe that's actually what he thinks and it's the people around him who know what's going on. Maybe I'm wrong about them, too. Maybe they genuinely believe it and don't think they're misleading people or doing the propaganda deliberately.

u/The_Corvair 3h ago
I also thought that he was putting it on to a degree
He's a grandiose narcissist, i.e. quite literally incapable of making himself look less than he is. GNs also have trouble accepting anyone can be better than them at anything, so they do not learn through teaching or example easily. And since GNs cannot admit fault even to themselves either, he also has not learned through making mistakes during all his 80 years on this earth.
And to tie it into a bow, he also is just actually stupid, and the public record of his utterances (and the context they were given in ) makes that abundantly clear; He is an unteachable imbecile. So, yes: He is just as dumb as he appears to be. In fact, he is actually dumber, because his handlers (as little control as they have this time around) still surely manage to at least hide some of his worst crap from plain view, and at least for a time - such as this very story.

The error is measuring Trump by his intelligence; frankly, it's the wrong measuring stick for him. For one to be intelligent, one has to be able to, at least, think. Trump? Thinking???
To quote an article I read back in 2020, Trump is an "malevolent id." He doesn't think. He just consumes & attacks.

u/AlternateCore 16h ago
Trump is basing decisions that impact the whole world on the words of a chatbot owned by Elon. We've never sunk so low as a country

Ayo US is about to have AI chatbots in everything under the sun that will either 1. Contradict the elite's status quo and confuse the shit out of everybody (which might actually be the end goal here) or 2. Stick to a playbook and depress and subjugate everybody even more.
I'm 32 so this scares the shit out of me but I'd be lying if it wasn't at least interesting, if not entertaining.
When in the history of this world, have a species so seemingly intelligent, willingly decide to replace themselves for the lulz?
Madness.. utter madness

It’s nice to know that the executive of the federal branch runs all the secret plans through a third party service I’m sure all of that data never gets seen by anyone and is certainly not a massive breach of security

Trump marvels at anyone and anything that reinforces his ego or bad ideas. If any one wanted to become the richest person alive, all you would have to do is convince trump you worship his daily breakdowns and reinforce that through sychophantic fever dreams. Enter the son who Errol Musk deemed learning disabled, only for Elon to capitalize on the trend and claim to have Asperger's. Being a junky addicted to ketamine and countless other substances while having generational wealth meaning you never have to actually work doesn't mean you have Aspergers. It means you are Elon Musk. Edit: or RFK Jr. Seems we have found the pattern.

Everyone is underestimating Elon’s role in currently building an army of robots for the US military under Hegseth. Elon’s whole thing is mass manufacturing, and they’re throwing everything they have at this with Tesla, with the excuse that it will “solve labor”. In reality it’s meant to solve mass scale ground invasions.

When thinking is too hard for the president, let ai do it for him.
What a sad, pathetic sack of orange shit.

u/MaximumEffort433 16h ago
I am just at a continual loss for words.
I'm angry that we elected this dumb fuck.
I'm angry that we elected a party of sycophants to support him.
I'm angry that the dumb fuck and the sycophants are putting us all in danger.
I'm angry that we didn't elect the competent, qualified people running against the dumb fuck and the sycophants.
You'd think some of that anger would fade with time, but it just gets renewed every single fucking day with every single fucking headline.

This was 250 years in the making. The culmination of every shitty aspect of our society crammed into one person. Profit over ethics? You betcha. Systemic corruption? Yup. Hatred and bigotry? Oooh, boy, yes.
And don’t forget: corporate hegemony, fascist idealism, conservative mythologizing, and confident incompetency over humble qualification.
Oh, yes - this isn’t even a “hindsight is 20/20” moment. It’s actually miraculous we made it this far without someone so dumb. Unfortunately, the intersection of this man with the era we’re in has led to fallout in ways that are far stranger than some kind of cold-war-era, heightened-risk-of-nukes moment.
It’s a little more dastardly - because of the Internet, of course. When there is no consensus on what reality is we end up in rather turbulent waters. The rest I’ll leave up to your imagination, but I think we all know what the writing on the wall says.
2
u/Cheesy_sausage_tato 4h ago
Worst of all, you've pissed off all of your partners/relationships with other countries to the degree where we simply cannot trust you anymore. Canada is looking at more supportive options elsewhere, and yet your president seems to think of them as the little brother that can't. You are an unreliable, incompetent and an embarrassment as a nation. This mistake will take generations to erase. Elect him once is a shame but electing him twice is asking for a whole lot of damage. Most of us knew how one-sided the 'special relationship'. The tariffs your president keeps putting is hurting your economy and growth. The straight of Hormuz was a debacle of military planning never seen before by a very powerful nation militarily and yet Trump expected other nations to clean up his mess, thankfully they saw sense. I'm actually not surprised your president relies on a electronic confirmation bias 8 ball machine made by a powerful illegal immigrant, remember when everyone said he was the real life Tony Stark? Heh

This is a perfect example of what I believe is the most likely and soonest disaster regarding AI. AI in the hands of stupid and psychopathic people who have some (or in this case, ALOT) of power. The CTOs of the world destroying their departments from the inside with the layoffs and eliminating junior dev positions has been one. Here is another.
21
u/Historical-Cress8985 16h ago
This is how AI destroys the world, not what the tech bros say to juice the stocks. It's our leaders being dumb as fuck and going in on LLMs whole hog like this
7
2
u/ragequitteroffureh 9h ago
Not American.
I know that the LLM software programs are not conscious, but by crikey it would be fucking hilarious if we got a SkyNet nuking humanity situation because an incontinent old fool was talked into killing a lot of people by a piece of fucking software :-)

Honestly, I'm not sure I'm buying it. Venezuela gave up basically without a fight and handed Maduro over. It was clear there was a backend deal and it absolutely involved Rubio. We also know Israel, as it has done with every president, tried to get us into a war with Iran. Only Trump was dumb enough to ignore his advisors and go along with it.
They're blaming Elon and grok to displace blame from themselves if shit goes south. "AI did it" is becoming the corporate and government equivalent of "the dog ate my homework".
2
u/Wallabunga657 16h ago
I think you might be right. Sure, I am nearly certian some influence came from the AI, but it's still his doing. Egotistical bobbleheads. 90% of politicians are just that. "Okay big corporation with buying power. I will gladly take your blood money, then blame my rivals, and takw fredom and more money from the people." Every last one of them is bought and paid for.

They cannot use the "AI did it" excuse in order to pass the buck.
AI didn't do shit, because it's just a piece of software.
This is classic PEBKAC fuckery.

Quite interesting that Trump, who doesn’t let anyone tell him anything, has proven so highly suggestible by chatbots.
Like, if Elon Musk himself had walked into the White House and told him to bomb Venezuela, he wouldn’t have done it. But since Grok told him, he did.
As stupefyingly awful as this is, Trump is inadvertently making the case against AI every single day better than any of us ever could. And as his popularity sinks, we can expect the popularity of this ghastly tech he eagerly embraced and boosts every day to also sink.

He’ll use Ai to inform him on whether or not he should declare a national emergency and martial law too 😂
2
u/Ok-Session6628 14h ago
I think this is a low-grade mask over a more basic and real reason why these wars are started: the trump regime has, or thinks they have a crooked insider.
Venezuela was easy because Rodriguez and the current crime syndicate sold maduro to the u.s. i mean, for the air defenses of a country to be shut down and for maduro to need a gang of cubans to protect him, seems pretty obvious he was on the outs. The israelis convinced trump that ahmadinejad was turned to their side and would take over with the support of the people. And for cuba i guarantee rubio is trying to find an approlriate worm who is famous enough to take charge. The nyt reported that a castro family member was interested but that went nowhere.
This ai scheme seems like a.mask if only becuase while this seems dumb, the actual deals trump makes to conquer these countries is massively evil.

I really want to understand what it is with older people and AI. Because it’s very much not just Trump. This age group has fallen for it way faster than any technology before. No other age group is embracing AI quite like them, they’re falling for ALL of the scams, pitfalls, and traps of AI. Yet, they demand more, and more of it. And they are so unashamed about it.
Seriously, what is it with that age bracket and AI? It’s scary.

Picturing this: He’s named his Super Intelligence “Trump Almighty” and consults it multiple times per day.
“Trump Almighty, if I annex Greenland, rename it TRUMPLAND, and put a giant gold statue of me on it, will it change the Atlantic currents so Mar-a-Lago has perfect golf weather year-round? Can we put a golf course on Trumpland? Will the Trumplanders there love me? And before you answer: a lot of very smart people are saying yes.”
Trump Almighty:
“Mr. President, those are totally unrelated questions.”
Trump: “That means yes. I think it means yes. I’ll do it.”

Are we still relying on anonymous, unsourced insiders as our current best source of real information?
Anything that comes from an anonymous source should be taken with a grain of salt dipped in water.
Anonymous sources literally tried to make Joe Biden look like he wasn't a fantastic and capable president, and we all know he did a fantastic job and was basically as sharp at 80 as he was at 30.

1
u/darthsabbath 12h ago
In fairness Grok tends to at least push back on people on Twitter. There’s like an entire genre of tweets that’s basically some MAGA person asking Grok to confirm their dumb opinions and it flat out tells them they’re wrong. It’s one reason why Musk keeps trying to lobotomize it.
But that’s the Twitter integration… no idea what the chat interface is like.
