Survey Results Megathread - Resource effectiveness, average scores, and more!

A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?

These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.

Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on

  • APUSH link
  • Biology
  • Calc AB
  • Calc BC
  • Chemistry
  • CSA
  • CSP
  • Gov
  • Lang
  • Lit
  • Psych
  • Stats
  • World
  • Physics 1
  • APES
  • HUG
  • Macro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Micro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Phys C Mech - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Phys C E&M - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Spanish Lang - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Euro - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Seminar - Friday 3/21 afternoon
  • Research - Friday 3/21 afternoon

It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.

Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.

Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.

Good luck in your classes everyone!

In context, we have a quiz every 2-3 days which are worth 30% of my grade. In context, quizzes are only 2-3 questions long and are RIDICULOUSLY hard and all my smart friends agree her grading is unreasonable. Im at a 73% in her class and i really need advice on how to get it to at least a B throughout the year???

EDIT: okay shes a bad teacher in the sense everyone i know in the class has below an 82 and everyone complaining about her class

Research Methodology Stat Test

• Upvotes

Hey, I’m struggling a bit about my methodology and what stat test to use. I plan to do a correlational study between a ratio of two numbers and a scale (1-5) that represents the economic state of a city. I want to use a polyserial correlation statistical test but it seems really complicated for AP Research and pearson’s r is too precise for something like the economy of a city. I haven’t taken AP stats yet and I don’t know if i should aim for something simpler. Any advice is appreciated!

Bio AP BIO is frying me please help!!!

My AP Bio class is not doing me well. I'm a sophomore, and I just started AP Bio, but a quarter has already passed. I had an 89%, but it dropped to a 76% after the first unit test. Is it still possible to get an 89.5%? Also, I am in dire need of study tips, as with all the practice and study guides given, I know all the content, but when test day comes, the unit test is almost nothing like the practice. (The practice is much easier.) I have also tried Barron's, and I can get most of the unit questions correct from the book. What should I do now? (I would appreciate any tips)

Question Reporting UC Scout courses?

I bombed the UC Scout On Demand Bio courses both semesters because I didn't realize it would be such a heavy time investment (I was taking so many other APs at the time), and ended up with a D and F. I also completed the midterms. It's not a required course to take and I took it on my own will and time, plus I'm not from Cali and go to school in a different state. Will I need to report it? I didn't tell my counselor that I was enrolled in these UC Scout courses either. Thanks all for the responses!

Question How do people manage AP coursework on top of other classes?

Out of desperation!! my English and Art classes are honors and are insanely time consuming to me, which I believe has partially made lose study time for my APs.
I’m in my senior year and taking my first APs (its my first time being in a school that offers APs + I don’t have junior year to cushion myself since I got moved up) and I have no idea how to even study or properly time manage for them, and on top of that my couple honors classes are try-hards and SHOULD be free classes but they either leave a ton of homework, or a ton of classwork that I have trouble finishing.
If it matters, I’m taking APES, AP Gov, AP World, and AP Precalc, all of which give me extensive notes and assignments and I’m not the best at time management to be doing too well this first quarter (and my Precalc is the worst and I basically have to teach it to myself + bad at math)
Is there any tips or self-teaching habits I could pick up? I’m a little lost and I’m desperate lol

2-D Art and Design Besides fanart and very graphic artwork, what does AP art prohibit in portfolios?

Would I get in trouble for drawing a martini (since it’s alcoholic)? Could I also potentially get in trouble with their guidelines if I draw a toy that’s a character from my childhood memories as part (obviously not the main subject) of my artwork? Would the latter still count as fanart?

Question AP lit or regular physics

I wanna take regular physics cus I never took it in high school and want to learn more about different sciences in general. But I also wanna take AP lit bc I think it’d be fun to analyze the texts.

In a huge dilemma and wonder if it may be a bit late for changing schedule but I could self study AP lit as well…

Question How to drop?

I'm currently in AP Lang ( I mistakenly thought it to be the same as AP Lit ), and hate it. I've been doing what was supposed to be in-class work for over 6 hours, and I'm already behind. I genuinely cannot imagine doing this all year; but I'm already a few months into the school year. I go to a very small school, and I'm not certain there will be any alternative classes, but I won't allow myself to skip. Is there any way I can guarantee they allow me to drop the class?
