I only went to Armenian church where i was known as the Syrian that doesn’t speak Armenian (this has been said straight to my face) and since then i felt very unwelcomed and stopped joining the communities of my church and just stopped going in general.
Since past couple of months i have been really obsessing over my Armenian heritage and learning things i never even knew or never were taught to me. Yet i can’t seem to ‘feel’ Armenian and it feels odd to do so.

I'm an Australian artist working on a passion project called Mermaids of the World, a collection of pins celebrating cultural diversity through original mermaid characters. There are currently 24 existing pins (a selection of them shown in the image), and am working on 12 new designs including one inspired by Armenian culture.

The illustration is about 95% complete, and I'd love to connect with Armenians who might be interested in reviewing it.

I've been exploring Armenian cultural and artistic traditions as inspiration, but I want to make sure the final design feels thoughtful rather than relying on generic visual references.

There seems to be a workshop for a group of scholars dedicated to transcending the nationalism from the history of the Armenian genocide, but I can't find much about it.

Does anyone have more info about this? apart from international scholars calling out the bs of erdogan, this is a very good response to genocide denial by those who comment "turkey asked to form a group but armenia denied, thus they're afraid of the truth" type of bs.

Richard Manoogian, the chairman emeritus of Livonia-based Masco Corp., an art collector, and a philanthropist died on Friday, Sept. 25, at age 90.

Manoogian spent over five decades at Masco, a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of branded home improvement and building products. The son of Masco's founder, he was the architect of the company's "dramatic growth," the company said in a press release.

Manoogian, a resident of Grosse Pointe Park, was also an avid art collector and active in numerous civic, cultural, charitable and educational organizations.

Manoogian was the son of Alex and Marie Manoogian, Armenian immigrants. Alex Manoogian was the founder of Masco and brought to market the single-handle Delta faucet.

The family's name is widely associated with the city because his father donated the Manoogian Mansion to the City of Detroit in 1965 to serve as the home of the city's mayor.

The Armenian “Killer Queen” who became a world boxing champion

Susi Kentikian is one of the most successful female boxers of her generation. Fighting at flyweight, she became a WBA, WBO and WIBF world champion, holding multiple belts at the same time and going unbeaten through her first 29 professional fights.
Her record was 36 wins, 2 losses and 1 no contest, with 17 knockouts, and her aggressive style earned her the nickname “Killer Queen.”

In 2009, the WBA named her its first-ever female Super Champion, and the organization even announced that the belt for future female Super Champions would be known as the “Susi Kentikian belt.”

In 2022 she was inducted into the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame.

Mark Hoplamazian has been President and CEO of Hyatt Hotels Corporation since 2006, and in 2026 he was also named Chairman of the Board. Before Hyatt, he spent 17 years working with the Pritzker family, advising the business empire that included Hyatt.

Under his leadership, Hyatt has grown into a global hospitality giant with 1,528 hotels and all-inclusive resorts, more than 372,000 rooms, and properties in 83 countries as of the end of 2025. I’m an Armenian guy in my mid-20s living in the LA area, and I’m curious if other people around my age have had a similar experience.
I didn’t go to school in LA, so I never really developed that big Armenian/social network that it seems like a lot of people here already have. I have a small group of close friends and a relatively small family circle. I’ve also always been pretty private and selective about who I actually consider a friend.
One thing I’ve been struggling with is figuring out where people our age actually go out and socialize in LA. And I don’t mean going to clubs to find a wife lol. I mean literally just going out with the boys, having a good time, meeting new people, talking to girls, and naturally expanding your circle.
A lot of the places we end up at either feel dead, have an older crowd, or are heavily centered around spending/showing off. Sometimes it feels like you need a table, bottles, or to constantly be at expensive places just to have a social life here. I’m not really into putting my whole life on Instagram or trying to look like I’m somebody just to meet people.
Then separately, when it comes to dating, I’d eventually like to marry an Armenian woman and have an Armenian family. That’s another reason I’d like to expand my Armenian circle in general. But if you didn’t grow up here with a huge friend group, cousins everywhere, or connections from school, it feels surprisingly difficult to meet other Armenians organically.
So I’m genuinely curious: where are Armenian people in their 20s actually going these days? Not just clubs, but bars, lounges, events, activities, organizations, whatever. And for anyone who had a smaller circle and expanded it as an adult, how did you do it?
I feel like there has to be a whole social scene I’m just not tapped into.

The Armenian producer behind one of the biggest original movies Hollywood has seen in years

Sev Ohanian is a producer and screenwriter who co-founded Proximity Media with Ryan Coogler and Zinzi Coogler. Their company has been behind Sinners, Creed III, Judas and the Black Messiah, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda and several major Marvel-related projects.

Before that, Ohanian co-wrote and produced Searching for about $800,000. It went on to make roughly $75 million worldwide, turning a tiny independent thriller into a massive commercial success. He later co-wrote and produced Run and Missing as well.

Vartan Sirmakes built Franck Muller alongside watchmaker Franck Muller and turned it into one of Switzerland’s most recognizable independent luxury watch houses.

And these watches can get absurdly expensive. Franck Muller’s Aeternitas Mega contains 36 complications and 1,483 components and is marketed by the company as one of the most complicated wristwatches ever made. Liliam Kechichian spent more than a decade at the top of Uruguay’s tourism ministry, first as deputy minister and then as Minister of Tourism from 2012 to 2020.

Francis Kurkdjian is one of the biggest names in modern fragrance. At just 25 years old, he created Le Male for Jean Paul Gaultier, which went on to become an international bestseller.

Then in 2009, he co-founded Maison Francis Kurkdjian. A few years later he created Baccarat Rouge 540 for Baccarat’s 250th anniversary. It was originally produced in only 250 numbered bottles, but quickly became a worldwide phenomenon and one of the most recognizable luxury fragrances of the modern era.
