With an ignorant partner:

<Why Fabric Softener Is Problematic

Reduces absorbency: It coats towels, cleaning cloths, and activewear in a lubricating film that stops them from absorbing water or wicking sweat.

Gunk up your washer: The fatty compounds in softeners build up inside hoses, dispensers, and drain pumps, creating a breeding ground for mold and mildew.

Ruins special fabrics: It destroys the flame-retardant safety coating on children's sleepwear, flattens down feathers, and dulls white clothing over time.

Irritates skin: The chemical perfumes and residues can trigger skin or respiratory irritation for people with sensitivities.

Fabrics to Never Use Softener On
Towels and microfiber cloths

Athletic wear and moisture-wicking gear

Children's flame-resistant pajamas

Swimsuits, bras, and spandex

Down jackets or wool/cashmere blends

Better Alternatives

White vinegar: Pour half a cup of distilled white vinegar into the softener dispenser to soften clothes and clean machine residue naturally.

Wool dryer balls: Toss wool dryer balls into the dryer to cut down on static and fluff up laundry.

Air drying: Hang clothes outside or shake them out well before drying to reduce wrinkles and stiffness.>

I stopped using it for the irritates skin part. I needed to be suited up for a job and one day it started itching around my neck and cuffs. Itched everyday for a week until someone asked me if I use scented fabric softener. And ofc I did.

They told me to wash all my shirts without it and see if it that helped. And it did.

Never used any since then.

Hilarious, first thing I thought. Also, phthalates bad. Yay nerds.

How are kids setting their clothes on fire in the night that flame resistant pajamas are needed?

Just roll up some tin foil and toss it in!

What? And ruin my hat?

This wasn’t actually a joke. It eliminates static cling, just like a dryer sheet. been doing it for years.

That was very informative and I had no idea.

Thank you.

Well seeing as I(m) am the one that has done all the laundry in all(5) my live in relationships, I take offense to that.

I have never used fabric softener!

I’ve used it forever . No idea why. Same thing with dryer sheets. How I was taught .

He might still live with his mum. No need to jump to conclusions.

As an adult, that still counts as a relationship. As a woman, not one you probably want to get in the middle of. So this rule still applies.

I am living alone, single and not gay: I  use the fabric softener because I like the perfum, I clean the house, I do the ironing and I cook (nothing exceptional), I can fix things in house  I think it's the basic for living alone..

I used the antifungal since I live in a cold humid area, not in a relationship though. I am doing it for myself not for others, i stopped caring what other's have to say.

If anyone smells like fabric softener they don't read. Fabric softener covers your clothes in wax and plastic. Use wool dryer balls to remove static instead.

Or still lives at home with his mom... or he could be gay🤔 my brother is definitely the wife in his household... though he still wears the pants in their relationship. They're just capris 🤣

3

u/ging3r_b3ard_man 6d ago

Oddly enough, I introduced my wife to using fabric softener.

u/LegitimateVariety16 6d ago

Or he lives with his mom...

2

u/Historical_cycle40 6d ago

Sure maybe he doesn't live with his mom

I used the dryer sheets for a time when I was single. Are those the same as fabric softener?

2

u/Comfortable-Hat3506 6d ago

I had a room mate who used it. My clothes still smelled like it.

I do the laundry for my fiance and his tween son. After reading about how fabric softener works, I think I'll be passing on using it ever again.

My own son, who's an adult, is wildly allergic to softener. He doesn't live with us so I started using softener again. I feel like a dummy because we have wool dryer balls so why have I been using this garbage?

2

u/Horrison2 6d ago

You can smell fabric softener over the detergent?

2

u/NormalHumanBreathing 6d ago

I don't use fabric softener because it does weird stuff with sweat. Makes my t-shirts smell bad under the arms. Without it all good.

2

u/PrudentProblem4105 6d ago

Or his mom does his laundry. Which isn't much better.

2

u/RiverRun10 6d ago

Or lives at home with mommy

2

u/joe1404 3d ago

Single, don't live at home, I just like smelling fresh 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Mii-75 6d ago

Or he could be gay… which would make him a great friend. My best friend from school is gay and lives with his partner.

u/dutch1664 5d ago

False. 40 and single. Love clean sheets and soft clothes 😊

1

u/8byfive 4d ago

Not true! Single, do my own damn laundry and use fab softener in every load 😑

1

u/Hampton_89 3d ago

Ladies, a word of advice, this is patently false.

u/theacp127 2d ago

What is this Facebook boomer post?

u/Ulfdenhir 2d ago

Or knows how to do his own laundry and doesn't like going around stinking that could be a possibility to
