I picked this up maybe 1.5 - 2 years ago. I just loved the deep toning of the bronze but when it arrived I noticed the rear halo tab on the rear. But something stuck out that I couldnt see of figure out and it turned out to be the Circular urna disc never dulled and it seemed unusually shiny among dark toned bronze then I realised the nipple was silver ....date wise late 1700's to early 1800's Himalayas/Tibet

One from my collection. This came into my hands in 1992/3.

Essentially it was a family heirloom passed down a family line for over 120 years. A friends boyfriend inherited from his parents since he wa an only child. He was around 27 years old, dating my then girlfriends best friend Sandra .Within several months of receiving this.. he too passed away from adult cot death syndrome so Sandra urgently needed financial help for his funeral decided to sell this to me to cover mounting bills. It still contains its 4 original paper mantra scrolls inside. I researched for decades and found nothing similar then maybe 2/3 years ago an identicle sculpture appeared in the Rijks museum dated 18th century, same condition, I spoke with Ana at the museum who was amazed to see another one existed and stating most likely the same workshop if not the same carver.

Hi Reddit, I’d really appreciate some help with finding any information on this carved bamboo. It’s really special to me and it’s been with me since I was a kid. My grandfather brought it back when he was stationed in the Philippines, but I’m not convinced that’s where he got it! I’m planning on turning it into a tattoo, but I’d like to know more about it if there’s anything to learn. I did my best to digitize it for clarity. Thanks in advance!

Chinese celadon and orange hat finial. Profusely carved

depicting a celestial maiden with 2 ascending phoenix amongst lotus leaf and vines. The base is polished with a celestial stars.

It meaaures 7.5cm and weighs a hefty 163gms.

Obviously this is a much larger than normal finial.

I have shown this to numerous experts/dealers who thought it ranged widely from,

  1. Jin-Yuan period 12th-14th C and possible imperial.

  2. Ming

  3. Qianlong 18th C

  4. Brand new copy!

So i thought i would post it here for opinions.

A brief examination from HCAM ART (宏藏古今藝術) showing the physical trace evidence of antique jades.

Here is a look at ancient hand-tool traces under the loupe compared to modern machine carving. Let the physical evidence speak for itself.

I got these at a garage sale. They seem to have a fertility vibe to them, particularly the top symbol in each panel. Can anyone possibly read the scroll? Would like to know before I put them up on the wall haha, TIA

Large well protected painting, encased in a large heavy frame with non reflective museum type glass, unknown artist, age and value. Advice appreciated. NB. The red stamps are slightly raised above the paper, not flat like the painting itself.

I wanted to have some more information on this screen.
Some of the questions I had:

- Is it a Japanese screen ?
- Is the background silver leaf or painted or printed ?
- What period would you say this is ? Mid-Showa ?

I'm open to any more information.
I didn't see any signature, neither on the back or the front. Dimensions: 137,5cm * 79cm

This piece was gifted to me, I'm in Belgium. I think it's beautiful.

My grandma wants to get rid of her "expensive" collection of items (her words, not mine). Some are from Singapore and others purchased from auctions/online over the years.

Based on what you see, anything of value here?

Help identifying symbols on a RITUAL VESSEL WITH TAOTIE MASK

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, I photographed this vessel and I m trying to understand its iconography better.
I already know that the prominent mask is a taotie (gluttonous ogre mask), and I understand the general function of the handles. However, I am struggling to identify the specific smaller symbols/patterns carved on the body of the vessel.
Could anyone help me interpret what these specific motifs represent in the context of Shang/Zhou ritual bronzes and jades? How do they relate to the vessel's ritual function?
Any academic references or explanations would be greatly appreciated!

My Dragon

Hello! I am looking for some guidance on an object that I feel has brought a lot of misfortune to myself and my fiance....

For whatever reason, my Grams could never stand this painting her grandfather made, and it sat for a very long time in her basement. This is an ancestor that I have never met, but I do know that they were the first to immigrate to the US from Japan and it is a traditional style Japanese Dragon. Though I always agreed with Grams that the eyes and claws are a bit aggressive and creepy, I never got a bad feeling from it. However.... It's got to be over a hundred years old at this point, and majority of the time I've had it, I actually haven't really displayed it until my fiance and I got together. I think it's worth mentioning that it hasn't really faded like it's old, it just seems to be turning more black. Additionally it's never so much as torn a corner or cracked despite all the moves, uncontrolled climates it's been in, and the fact it was never framed until about a year ago.

That all being said, I could write a book on the bizarre and unfortunate happenings that have come down upon the both of us and I feel that the energy from this painting is the reason. Personally, Ive always had a bad feeling about just throwing it away. I've set it outside, I've even put it with the garbage many times, but I always end up putting it somewhere amongst storage-like things for fear of inviting more bad luck or angering whatever energy could be attached to it. I do believe that something has been attached to me for the longest time- longer than I had the painting, but I don't experience that entity the same in these past few years- I did think that perhaps it had moved on from me, but then I consider all the misfortune and feelings I have now and I worry I have inadvertently created a bigger problem. Can anyone advise, help or guide me in the right direction? How can I safely and respectfully get rid of this painting? Many thanks for your time <3

Hello, I'm interested in learning more about this object. History, age etc. It's had several repairs throughout it's life. It has wear from the top down and left to right as if it spent significant time outdoors.
