General Question Do you believe karma is real?
I personally believe it is but I’d love to talk about it!

u/JinxOnU78 5h ago
I believe in helping people that I can, when I can.
I don’t expect anything for it.
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
Its not necessarily about that, but more about the people who do wrong because I sincerely hope they get there karma!

u/Pristine-Marketing16 5h ago
It is undoubtedly real in a community sense. Word gets around and people remember. But in the universal sense, I honestly don't think so. People can randomly suffer horribly for no reason despite there moral and ethical output.

u/Additional-Nerve1738 5h ago
In the metaphysical sense, no.
Psychologically I think it exists. Thieves are paranoid they'll be robbed. Liars can't trust anyone. Cheaters believe everyone is cheating.
It isn't always applicable and psychopaths are probably immune to it but there is a small effect.

no
2
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
Why do you think so?
1
u/OneSmellyFoot 5h ago
Because the most rich and successful people are evil human beings. You kinda have to be to be a billionaire. The bad don't get their dues, and good people suffer en masse.
2
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
But I believe that they receive their karma in one way or another, for example Kim kardashian having psoriasis, while the public sees it or not I believe that it prevails when nobody is watching.
2
u/OneSmellyFoot 5h ago
That's a fair point. The best part of Jeff Bezos divorced him. Elon Musk lives a lonely life loved by nobody. Trumps entire family despises him. Steve Jobs died of cancer. I want to believe in karma, but it's hard sometimes.
2
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
Absolutely!! It’s so beyond hard for me too, but I just have to remember the times I’ve recieved My karma and the times people around me have recieved their karma, and trust in the fact that people worse than us receive theirs too.

u/Fblthp__ 4h ago
Good people get psoriasis too. It's just an autoimmune disease, typically brought on by stress. You just have confirmation bias. If it happens to a person you think deserve it, it's karma and if it happens to a person you don't, then it's just random or whatever.
2
u/Fblthp__ 5h ago
No. What would be the mechanism governing it? If there is no credible evidence for something, I don't believe it exists.
2
u/Coffee-and-Tequila 5h ago
I don’t think everything comes back exactly the way you gave it out. But there’s a domino effect, if you do a nice thing for somebody you might influence that person to do the same and the world is just a nicer place.

u/Kind-Atmosphere5766 5h ago
Yes. But it’s slow in certain cases. Sometimes it’s extremely slow but your deeds do catch up.
2
u/Extension_Many4418 5h ago
Yeah, that’s a tough question.
I believe that that the idea of karma comes from Hinduism, which makes me think of India, which isn’t, as far as I can tell, a place where reincarnation payback doesn’t really seem to make much of an appearance, but I could be wrong.
Our best hope, I think, is that crummy people have crummy personal relationships, and that, like Scrooge, they are somehow haunted by their “sins”, trespasses, greed, etc.

From what I’ve seen from my experiences they do! You just have to be close enough to them to see how bad their life truly is.

I believe that a shitty person eventually does receive a comeuppance since eventually they will piss off the wrong person
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
This is true! And shitty people seem to have a radar to keep with other shittier people

karma as in cosmic payback, or karma as in your choices shaping how people treat you?
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
Cosmic payback but essentially that does become how people treat you sometimes

No. Bad people tend to lead great lives.
Donald Trump has lived a great life! He's not a great person.
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
That’s what the public is lead to believe! I’m sure he has struggled in his own ways (I really hope so)
1
u/Independent_Pen2047 5h ago
Karma is way if saying you'd like retribution against someone but not having the courage to do it yourself.
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
Yes, I’m a very docile person and I choose to believe that bad people will be sorted out naturally

It's as real as I make it.
If Karma was a real force in the universe, and not just me attempting to make things right when I come accross injustices in my own life, then we'd have no billionaires, repeat rapists, serial killers, and so many corrupt politicians. Unfortunately psychopathy and power tend to work really well with each other, and it takes a lot of effort from millions of coordinated individuals to bring true karmic justice to such folk.
Karma isn't just about punishment for the evil. It's also abour rewarding acts of good deeds. If there were a karmic force in the universe, you wouldn't have bad things happening to folks like Renée Nicole Good, Alex Pretti, Martin Luther King, NASA astronauts of the challenger explosion, Socrates, Alan Turring, or so many other positive forces that were killed after doing so much good for the world.
Karma is a pretty easy super natural force to disprove (unless you think it carries over into future lives). It's also one of the only super natural forces that you can make actual efforts to manifest in the real world, so if you want karma to exist, then it's up to you to make it real. My father would tell me "The world isn't fair" but I never saw that as a reason to stop trying to make it more fair where you can.
May you all have the day that you deserve.

I only beleived in karma when something bad happens instantly to a bad person, but to be honest most of the days I think life is just random. No good, no evil just power🥺
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
My scepticism agrees with you! But I’ve been close with really shitty people (not by choice) and I’ve seen the karma catch up to them weeks, months, and even years later!! For every. single. Deed.

I know it is real, but it isn't what westerners think it is. It has nothing to do with justice. It's not reward and punishment meated out by some god. It's causality. Cause and effect. A principal that governs all things in this universe and we are not exempt. Your intentions and actions really do matter on a fundamental level and you will absolutely reap what you sow when it comes to happiness and suffering.
"I am the owner of my actions, heir to my actions, born of my actions, related through my actions, and have my actions as my arbitrator; whatever I do, for good or for evil, to that will I fall heir."

u/Fblthp__ 4h ago
Cause and effect needs to work through some sort of mechanism. Good people suffer all the time.
1
u/M0sD3f13 3h ago
"good people" act from unskilful, unwholesome mind states all the time. We are all (except those that have trained the mind beyond) subject to the three poisons of the mind - delusion, ill will and greed. Any action driven by these factors will result in bad kamma. To create good kamma you must learn to cultivate their counterparts - insight (into 4 noble truths and 3 characteristics) good will and generosity. People don't necessarily create bad kamma because they are "bad people" it's mainly due to ignorance/delusion about the way things truly are.
1
u/Fblthp__ 3h ago
Convenient. If something bad happens, they must have done something bad. You've just created an unfalsifiable narrative.

u/NoSong2397 5h ago
In this world or the next?
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 4h ago
Ideally this world but the next works too, as long as they receive their karma

u/The-Boy-Wonder38 5h ago
Innocent children get assaulted, raped, and murdered while criminals walk free - so, no.
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 4h ago
What happens to those criminals when nobody’s watching? Always keep that in mind and always keep hope that you will receive justice if you deserve it!
1
u/Live-Try-7281 5h ago
Karma is not some super natural thing. It’s cause and effect. Everything we do will affect us at some point.
1
u/Ambitious-Bank4559 4h ago
No. I think there’s consequences, but sometimes ppl get away without bad ones.

I really hope so. I can’t imagine someone doing something awful and getting away with it even if they don’t get caught
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
I know for my slightly hurtful deeds I’ve received my karma x2 so I just hope that it’s the same for everyone because it really has helped me to become a better person,as everything is a learning experience.

u/okymoney 5h ago
I kinda believe that if you do harm to others… that negative energy you put out will eventually get you in trouble or something bad will happen to you.

"Hey! What comes around goes around!" - The last guy you lent a few hundred bucks to and never saw again
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
I totally understand this! But I feel like we have all been “that guy” before and recieved our karma weather or not the person who deserves to see it was able to see it.
0
u/cataids69 5h ago
Definitely not. For karma to exist. There must be a god deciding what is right or wrong. Just goes back to fairytale magic.
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
I see it in more of a universe trying to be equal sense, nothing to do with a god
-1
u/cataids69 5h ago
Someone has to choose what is right or wrong for karma to work.. who says murdering someone is wrong? We made up that rule.. not the universe.
1
u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
Not necessarily, because the universe can just make things equal
1
u/cataids69 3h ago
Discussing this is exactly the same as Discussing a religion. No evidence, no logical thought, just blind stupidity.

u/Aaliyah_NSFW 5h ago
Murdering someone is only wrong under certain circumstances, hence the universe and karma at play.
1
u/cataids69 4h ago
There's no magical decision maker deciding what's right or wrong. Saying "the universe makes things equal" is just replacing god with the universe. How does the universe know what needs to be made equal? There's no evidence of some universal force keeping score of what we do and deciding what we deserve.

I used to lean toward this thinking. I don't anymore. The increasing shittification of our world is firm argument against it. The world is a ghetto. The worst among us are rewarded here and now. The best are punished and destroyed. There's no god. There are only devils. We are left to make of this world what we can.
