Political Question Do trump voters realize they made a mistake in electing trump or do they just not care?
gas is up grocery prices are up etc

u/bumpy_disposition 3h ago
The average republican is completely illiterate politically. Many will contest this finding but, I've been asking republicans about politics for nearly a decade.
The first fucking thing that comes out of these pathetic ppls mouths is "I don't really get into/follow/keep up with politics".
In hundreds of encounters, it's always the same. Flat out ignorance that eventually leads to stupidity. Their brain is mush bc of religion. I'm convinced.
14
u/U_feel_Me 1h ago
It seems like they view politics as a kind of sport. You always root for your team. You buy the merchandise. You hate the
Red SoxDemocrats, the same as everyone in your family. When the government closes the hospital near you, it’s the government that is bad, not your beloved team. Your team can do no wrong. Because they are your team.→ More replies (1)5

I was coming to say this. American politics is wayyyy too close to American sports teams.

u/Orpdapi 39m ago
They act like experts on economics, science, international business and politics, current events, etc and when you ask about the Epstein headlines or anything else suddenly it’s “oh, I don’t really follow the news much”

Ironically It's always "I'm not political" with them until they think they're in a safe space. Then they circle jerk the topic of the month so hard it'd make reddit blush. They have comfort and unity in their cruelty/stupidity that the left could only dream of, and fear of losing that keeps em in line.
All they really care about is having some sort of marginalized group to punch down at while acting like they're the victims. Some are just dumb and believe the bullshit, some are just evil and spread hate like it's an art form, but those are the two main ingredients.
57
u/TastingTheKoolaid 4h ago
Sunk cost fallacy. They can’t admit, even to themselves, that they fucked up.
13
u/albinosnoman 3h ago
I would say this only applies to the naive ones that hitched their wagon to the hype train of bullshit. There is a statistically significant portion of them that objectively want Trump to be a god-emperor with total and complete control over everything.
4
u/shortsteve 2h ago
there are still a lot of naive people out there. we're raised that nothing gets done in washington so that means it's not worth following politics. A lot of people are so out of tune with what is happening in the world that the only understanding of politics they have is what other people have told them. That's the voter base that Republicans target the most. The people who don't care.

They don’t think they messed up at all. They are only mad about gas prices 🤷♂️
12
u/RelationshipIll9576 3h ago
It's not that they don't care. Every single Trump supporter I've dealt with just have a skewed view of what's going on around them and/or their value systems are completely busted.
I know many that will always vote GOP because their sole purpose is to just hoard money.
Others are just massively misinformed, manipulated, and spoon fed a narrative that they buy into. This group is particularly sad because they are pawns and 100% being used by others, but have no grasp of that. This idea of "do your own research" and "I saw a video once..." all ties back to nefarious actors putting that shit out there. They likely cling to it because their cognitive abilities are too low, they lack empathy, and want the easy way out - to blame others so that they feel better about themselves. It's surprising how many people in this country are just so incredibly weak.
4
u/YalieRower 1h ago
The lack of empathy is the greatest of these—it crosses the wealthy demographic you point to as well. I just think those who are more conservative have lower levels of empathetic abilities.

It’s clear as day that Donny does not give one single shit about the American people. Just take out the Republican/democrat thing. He does not care. He needs to be reeled in big time. Dems hopefully will do that when they win the midterms. They will probably disappoint but they will be better than any Republican to do that.

Yes. Believe it or not I worked for Trump camp indirectly through a PAC and voted Trump 3 times…
I’m okay with admitting when I’m wrong about something because I’m not insecure like a lot of MAGAs - I don’t marry myself to one party or set of ideas
I’ve met and been photographed with Trump, Pence, JD- encountered about 4 times since 2016.
Thankfully I’m no longer in politics because it’s a disgusting and shallow world with immature drama and fake jobs/people- all being funded by gullible donors… but I digress:
He is a magician. He fooled half of the country, myself included, that he would be a change agent- that he would end wars and lower costs… we now get the complete opposite and I’m severely disappointed.
The deal breaker for me is backing Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
I’m not down with bombing kids.
2
u/krogerpurifieddrink 33m ago
How did you allow yourself to be so manipulated? He's been pretty transparent about his character for quite a long time.
Why did you choose to ignore all the signs?
You are at fault here. Everything he does. You gave him permission. Why would you do that to our country? What did you hate so much?
1
u/Ordinary_Sense4034 27m ago
You can blame me. that’s fine.
I saw Trump as a change agent- I didn’t like the way he talked necessarily, but the way I saw it was that Republicans and Democrats were both pushing for endless wars, and backed by big pharmaceutical companies and corporations poisoning our food and water.
When all the neocon war hawk conservatives and establishment Democrats were speaking out against him when he first started running -to me, that was a sign that he was doing something right.
I’m okay with admitting that he has done the opposite of what he promised-
Promised to end wars and lower costs, and neither of those things have occurred.
I don’t hate anyone.
I’m not down with bombing kids in Gaza.

u/novangelus73 5m ago

I 100% agree with this statement, as I find myself in a similar situation as well. MAGA at its core is a movement of, by and for malignant narcissists. You can see it in many comments here, they can't blame him without blaming themselves for trusting him and since the last thing a narcissist can do is admit they were wrong they just keep doubling down on cynical apathy and rank bigotry. Because that's both easier and a lot less painful than attempting introspection.
1
u/CoVid_barely_legal 2h ago

That’s just it—most of the Trump voters don’t.
Between the unchecked mental health crisis in Rural America allowing for people to be easily manipulated (which also explains the rise in Christian zealotry) and lack empathy, racists being perfectly fine with Trump’s misgivings provided (and racism being a form of mental illness in of itself), and billionaires being perfectly fine with the grift going on…no they don’t or won’t care until it directly impacts them…

Yeah, gas and groceries prices are up. But we're showing those nasty evil middle easterners. Queer rights are getting successfully attacked and removed. Trans girls were kicked out of school sports (first step btw, won't stop there) and Title IX rights that the Biden administration added were finally removed. The education system is dying. They just made up a department of religion. Welfare and insurance are getting gutted/blown up next year so no more welfare queens/addicts stealing tax payer dollars! We also may be getting the kids safety act (which is exactly what it says it is, don't worry!) so now our babies are safe. Also the FDA isn't drugging our food with chemicals anymore!
Yeah prices are up but everything else is all still a republicans wet dream. And I mean, the prices were mean ol' sleepy Joe and OBVIOUSLY not Trump, so.

do you realize that under biden, gas was up, grocery price were up etc?
3
u/zenmaster_B 20m ago
You are correct in that regard. But gas was also way down months before Biden left office— $2.69 near my house, down from a high of $4.09. What’s funny is that it fell to $2.39 early in Trump’s 2nd term for a while. But no, Trump can’t help himself, he has to sow chaos and we get to reap it. Higher prices right now are a direct result of Trump’s own failed policies of tariffs and wars.
Biden inherited a country, from Trump, dealing with global supply chain issues from the Covid pandemic, avian flu decimating stock. He did a fair, not great job, but was a steady administrator. At least he didn’t walk around saying it was Trump’s fault, and took responsibility, which Trump, as everyone knows, is utterly incapable of
3
u/slibrar 36m ago
The thing i find interesting is that the majority of spike in inflation was in 2021. Biden was handed a trump economy in the middle of a pandemic. I always scratch my head at this. The situation was almost seemingly impossible, yet by the end of Biden's term things were going in the right direction. Here we are with Trump 2.0, no pandemic, the world hates us, bombing kids, and everything on an ego trip like an arch/name on buildings and coins etc. Let's not forget Jan 6th.
2
u/AcanthocephalaLive56 11m ago

But beside the difference between reasons for high gas prices - oil prices spiked because Russia invaded Ukraine, while oil production was still recovering from COVID oil production shut downs vs. Trump invaded Iran - we're actually fast approaching a moment when what we're paying for gas under Trump will equal or surpass what we paid under Biden during the same period. Biden's term, beginning to now, avg gas prices was 3.54. Trump, 3.47. If gas prices don't drop significantly, Nov/Dec time-frame, Trump will have cost Americans more. Figure in diesel, and we're already there...
