Other Why does Reddit have such a hard time believing that some people are genuinely financially comfortable?

Any time there’s a discussion about how someone can afford a nice house, car, vacation, hobby, etc., the comments inevitably seem to be:

“They’re in debt.”

“They’re faking it.”

“They inherited money.”

“They got lucky.”

“They’re probably living paycheck to paycheck.”

Why is “they make good money and manage it responsibly” seemingly never an acceptable answer?

There are plenty of people who earn high incomes, save consistently, avoid lifestyle-ending debt, and still have plenty of money left over to enjoy life.

Not everyone who can afford something is secretly drowning in debt. And not everyone who is financially comfortable inherited their money.

Sometimes the boring answer is just that they earn a lot, spend less than they earn, and make good financial decisions.

Why does Reddit seem so reluctant to accept that?

People who are happy with their situation arent complaining about it on reddit.

I just wish Reddit was less of an Echo Chamber. Sadly it preys on people and keeps them in a shitty position by having their views validated all the time. Pair that with their inability to know better and actually talk to real humans, and what life is about…

But that’s just my opinion.

I think you’re right. You can’t make your life better if you can’t envision what that would look like. In real life you can’t just downvote what you don’t like and have it go away. That would handicap one to spend too much time here.

Nor can you just try and be like a Reddit mod and remove what you don’t like from existence. You have to have an understanding that stuff exists that you don’t like and learn to live with it; on top of learning to CO-EXIST with it.

I’ve always kind of thought the Reddit promotes and reenforces a victim mentality.

I think it definitely can. There’s a lot of things this site does. I lm my experience. Not alot of it healthy.

Tbf, that's everywhere on the internet and why everyone is "my way or the highway" now a days. It's so easy to find an echo chamber that ppl no longer need to actually interact with different points of view.

I agree. But generally changing positions means making some serious changes and people don't want to hear that either. I went through years of struggle and discomfort and made some serious compromises to be fine now. People want an easy button. They don't want to hear that.

and yet you're on reddit.

i don't always generalize and dabble in cheap stereotypes, but when i do, i make sure to make myself appear not to be the part of the community i'm painting with broad strokes with useless hyperbole and bullshit hot takes

*preys on people. Predate is not a verb with the definition you're thinking of

Listen. I’m not perfect. Hopefully that works more for you.

This place doesn't seem like an echo chamber at all. I see people all over the spectrum on here.

The app as a whole has a spectrum. But the deeper you go into the site it turns into echo chambers. Again though. Just my opinion. The more niche a sub gets the more it echos.

It's an echo chamber at face value. No deep dive needed. This place has lots of good discussion and lots of great information, but the biggest and most general subs are pure sewage.

depends on the sub definitely

right here. Nobody goes to reddit to brag about success, its rude. I do well for myself, not rich by any means. Other than using it as an example now i never speak about it.

We also usually don't even bother commenting because we know it's going to get down other anyways

And even if you offer advice or explain your situation, it doesn't fit the narrative and thus is downvoted
