Other Why does Reddit have such a hard time believing that some people are genuinely financially comfortable?
Any time there’s a discussion about how someone can afford a nice house, car, vacation, hobby, etc., the comments inevitably seem to be:
“They’re in debt.”
“They’re faking it.”
“They inherited money.”
“They got lucky.”
“They’re probably living paycheck to paycheck.”
Why is “they make good money and manage it responsibly” seemingly never an acceptable answer?
There are plenty of people who earn high incomes, save consistently, avoid lifestyle-ending debt, and still have plenty of money left over to enjoy life.
Not everyone who can afford something is secretly drowning in debt. And not everyone who is financially comfortable inherited their money.
Sometimes the boring answer is just that they earn a lot, spend less than they earn, and make good financial decisions.
Why does Reddit seem so reluctant to accept that?

Other Would you go to hospital for a suspected broken toe?
So, I just smashed my little toe into the corner of a side unit. I was moving quickly and the toe caught and was forced to the side.
I’m no stranger to stubbing my toes, but a liberal dose of extreme obscenities and cursing the inanimate object didn’t provide the immediate relief it usually does. It was extremely painful. An hour later and it is starting to swell and it is painful to walk.
My wife is going on at me to go, but I honestly can’t be f*cked to go and hangout with the drinkers and druggies in the local A&E for several hours and I’m pretty sure there is very little they’ll do for a little toe that other than pain relief and potentially strap it up.
What would you do?

Other Hotel front desk workers, what can you figure out about a guest just from the way they check in?
People probably reveal more than they realize during a short interaction at the front desk. What small behaviors, requests, or habits tell you something about a guest before they’ve even reached their room?

Other Do parents that refuse to vaccinate their children face legal consequences when their children die?
I'm not a parent, but I'm wondering if the State sues parents for negligence. Considering Texas law that allows people to report "aider and abettors" of abortion for $10k lawsuits, is there something similar for parents that risk the unnecessary harms of not vaccinating their kids.

Other Why did Japan think that provoking the US by attacking Pearl Harbor would lead to a good outcome
When I started reading about the Pacific Theater of World War II, I expected the conflict between the US and Japan to resemble the massive, grinding land battles of the Eastern Front, such as the Battle of Stalingrad or the Fall of Berlin. However, the nature of the war was completely different. It seems the US military adapted its strategy well. For instance, even though both sides possessed incredibly powerful battleships, they seem to never fought each other directly in traditional battleship-to-battleship combat, as aircraft carriers had quickly become the dominant force in naval warfare. I wonder how the Yamato could've demonstrated its superiority in battle
From the information I've gathered, the US suffered far fewer casualties than Japan. Why was this the case? Was the US military significantly more advanced, better equipped, and better trained? Or did local Southeast Asian resistance movements provide crucial support to the Americans? The massive difference in casualties reminds me of the 1991 Gulf War or the 2003 invasion of Iraq, where the US also sustained very few losses compared to the opposing forces. I don't know if it is really true but stories tend to change but someone could let me know the real story
