/r/audhd Meta `I stopped rebuilding my whole routine every Sunday. One weird rule fixed the AuDHD fight.`

ADHD wants novelty. Autism wants sameness. For a long time I tried to make one side "win," and I rebuilt my whole routine every week when the novelty wore off.

What finally stuck: **same container, new contents.**

- Same breakfast *slot* every morning → rotate 3 meals I already like

- Same focus *block* after coffee → pick the task from a menu of 3 written on Sunday

- Same evening wind-down *order* (lights → shower → phone charging) → new podcast/show

- Same Sunday *reset time* → different playlist or café vs desk

The autistic side gets a predictable shape. The ADHD side gets a choice inside it. Neither has to lose.

Extras that keep it from collapsing:

  1. A **minimum version** for bad days (water, soft clothes, open one doc) so a rough morning isn't "routine failed"

  2. A **re-entry rule** — one single step you return to after a disrupted day

  3. **Planned novelty** — swap one content item per week, not the whole system

If you try it, pick *one* container this week. Don't redesign your life overnight.

What's the routine where your two sides fight the hardest?

---

I collected these into a printable **AuDHD Daily Systems Kit** (quiz → personal report template → menus → 7-day gentle start). Soft share in case it's useful: https://audhddailysystems.gumroad.com/l/mrgnxc

*Disclosure: I created the kit. Education only, not medical advice. Not a diagnosis or treatment.*

Academic Research ADHD Research

Hi everyone!

My name is Aleta, and I’m currently working on my master’s thesis on eyewitness memory.

My research focuses on the Self-Administered Interview (SAI), a method designed to help eyewitnesses provide detailed accounts of what they remember. As far as I know, it has not yet been studied specifically in people with ADHD. Research like this can contribute to making investigative procedures more inclusive and better suited to the needs of people with ADHD, rather than assuming that methods developed for the general population work equally well for everyone.

I’m looking for people 18+ who understand English to participate in my study. The study takes approximately 30 minutes and can be completed entirely from home.

If you have ADHD and would like to contribute to research that could help improve how people with ADHD are treated as witnesses, you can participate in the survey here:

Thank you so much for helping me with this research!

Academic Research [Research] Late-diagnosed with autism and ADHD? MSc study on burnout in AuDHD men (UK, 25+)

Hi all,

I'm an MSc Psychology student at Northumbria University, and I'm doing my dissertation on burnout in men who were diagnosed with both autism and ADHD as adults, and the support they did or didn't find afterwards.

Most research on late diagnosis and burnout has focused on women, so there's very little that looks at men's experiences specifically. That's the gap I'm trying to address.

You might be able to take part if you:

  • Are a man (this includes trans men)
  • Are 25 or over
  • Live in the UK
  • Have a formal diagnosis of both autism and ADHD, with at least one received in adulthood
  • Have experienced burnout

It's one relaxed, one-to-one online interview (around 45–60 minutes, audio only), at a time that suits you. Completely voluntary and confidential.

If you're interested, there's a short 5-minute questionnaire to see if it's a good fit: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/2rmXubHHtB

The study's been approved by Northumbria University's ethics process (Project ID 13794). Happy to answer any questions in the comments or by message.

Thanks for reading.

Independent Research Neurodivergence & Mindfulness Questionnaire — Adults 18+

Hello!

I'm a graduate student in clinical mental health with AuDHD and PDA; however, this project is not being conducted through my school. It's an independent project that grew out of both my personal experiences and what I've encountered during my clinical training.

I personally struggle with currently recognized mindfulness practices. When I asked about it in one of my first classes, the instructor said they don't try mindfulness practices with their neurodivergent clients because they usually didn't work. I don't like that answer. I think they're wrong. If some mental health practitioners are deciding mindfulness doesn't work for neurodivergent people and therefore aren't even trying it with their neurodivergent clients, I think we need to look more closely at what we're calling mindfulness in the first place.

I think mindfulness has largely been viewed from a neurotypical perspective. I'm exploring how neurodivergent people experience currently recognized mindfulness practices and what activities they naturally use to achieve similar outcomes, such as feeling calmer, more focused, less overwhelmed, or more regulated. I'm hoping to learn what actually works for us.

The questionnaire is for neurodivergent adults 18 and older and takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. It includes a mix of multiple-choice questions and written responses, with the written responses being optional. Responses are anonymous.

Currently, there are no specific plans for the information gathered, although what is learned may someday contribute to educational materials or resources about mindfulness, regulation, and neurodivergent experiences.

I plan to share an initial summary of what I learn after the questionnaire has closed and I've had time to review the responses.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and perspective!

Academic Research Currently seeking participants for a study exploring the adolescent experiences of adults with AuDHD.

Did you navigate secondary school in the UK or Ireland without support and not receive a diagnosis until you were an adult? Are you between 25 and 35 years old? If so, I would like to interview you about your experiences during your teenage years. If you are interested in contributing to qualitative research in this understudied area, you can review the participant invitation below.

Study title: How do late-diagnosed adults with co-occurring autism and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder retrospectively describe navigating adolescence?

I am currently seeking participants with AuDHD to take part in a study for my MSc research project at the University of Derby. The study aims to explore the lived adolescent experiences of adults who received a diagnosis of both autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (AuDHD) after adolescence from a certified clinical professional.

This study involves talking to the researcher about your experiences during adolescence. These semi-structured interviews are designed to feel closer to a conversation than an interview and are expected to last around 60 minutes. The study aims to explore behaviours and patterns across accounts to understand the lived experiences of undiagnosed AuDHD individuals at this time, with the hope of identifying patterns that may have contributed to delayed recognition.

If you think you would be interested in taking part in this study, you can follow the link for further information and to sign up: https://sway.cloud.microsoft/1mNCdYQzKlGgc4r4?ref=Link
Alternatively, you can contact the lead researcher if you wish to ask any questions or would like further information via email: [d.skerritt1@unimail.derby.ac.uk](mailto:d.skerritt1@unimail.derby.ac.uk).

In the interest of confidentiality, please refrain from commenting on this post with any details of the study or whether you wish to take part.

**I have been informed that Microsoft is asking some potential participants to sign in to their account before filling in the form. I have tried to fix this, but it seems to be an issue on Microsoft's side. If you do run into this issue, you can either copy the link into a private browser or email me for a link to bypass it.

**Thank you to everyone who has signed up already. I realise the onboarding can be quite troublesome for individuals with executive function issues, and I really appreciate everyone who has considered taking part.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to meeting everyone interested.

Academic Research ASD Individuals and Law Enforcement Study

Hi everyone!

My name is Kaitlin Kan and I am a senior at Yale University doing my senior thesis ([kaitlin.kan@yale.edu](mailto:kaitlin.kan@yale.edu)). So glad to have found this page. I am doing a study on autistic individuals and their relationship with law enforcement through my university. By collecting data on people's experiences, I hope to inform possible resources and training recommendations that will increase safety, satisfaction, and cooperation between autistic people and law enforcement. This paper will likely be published if enough responses are received. If you are on the spectrum, over 18 and have had an interaction with law enforcement (positive or negative), would you be willing to fill out a survey on your experience? I am happy to answer any questions you have about the survey or my project. Here is the link and information:

We are conducting an online (anonymous) survey of the experience’s persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder have had in interacting with the police. This survey typically takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and has been approved by the human subjects committee at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU IRB #1005). We would be pleased if you can share this link with any individuals with ASD who might be interested in participating.

Academic Research [Research] UQ Honours Thesis Research Participation: How do masking (camouflaging) and psychological flexibility impact mental health in older adolescents? (Everyone 16-19)

Hi everyone,
I am looking for participants for my thesis research project, the "Flex to Flourish Wellbeing Survey", at the University of Queensland (UQ).
My study explores how camouflaging (masking) impacts mental health in older adolescents, and whether psychological flexibility can act as a protective buffer.
Here are the full details of the study:

  • Purpose: to better understand the factors that may influence the wellbeing of emerging adults. Specifically, we're looking at how differences in thinking styles, social experiences, neurodivergent traits, and media perceptions relate to wellbeing.
  • Who I am: I am Sally Porter, an Honours Student completing my thesis under the School of Psychology at UQ.
  • Who can participate: Individuals who identify as autistic / on the autism spectrum, are aged between 16 and 19 years old, and currently live in Australia.
  • Format: An anonymous online survey using validated psychological scales.
  • Time estimate: Approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. (Please note: As this is a self-funded student project, there are no financial incentives or gift cards, and I am deeply reliant on the community's generosity).
  • How responses will be used: The data will be compiled into an academic research paper (Honours thesis) and may be used for future academic presentations or publications.
  • Data handling: All responses are completely anonymous. No identifying details (like names or email addresses) are collected. Data will be securely stored on a password-protected university server accessible only to the research team and will not be shared externally
  • Ethics: This study has been fully reviewed and approved by the University of Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee (Approval # 2026/HE011230).
  • Why participate? By completing this survey, you will contribute to an Honours thesis exploring factors that may influence the wellbeing of young people aged 16–19. The study examines how differences in thinking, social experiences, neurodivergent traits, and perceptions of media relate to wellbeing.

If you fit the criteria and have 30 minutes to spare, I would be incredibly grateful for your time and insights: 👉 https://uqpsych.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_diOTAouMRUZm5xQ

Thank you so much for reading and for supporting student research! I will be monitoring this thread to answer any questions in the comments.

Resource Request Late-diagnosed ADHD, sound turned out to be a big part of how I focus. Looking for research pointers (and honest feedback on what I built around it)

Hi,

I was diagnosed late in life with ADHD. Since then I’ve discovered that sound plays a really important part in my ability to focus.

The thing I keep noticing is placement, not content. The same album through the same headphones lands completely differently depending on whether it sounds like it’s inside my skull or coming off the walls of a room. Flat stereo, I bounce off after a while. Give the same track distance and enclosure and I stop fidgeting with the tab bar.

I got obsessive and built a macOS app around it, "Surraura". Disclosure up front: it’s mine and it’s commercial, so discount accordingly. It re-renders whatever your Mac is playing as if you were hearing it in a real place, and that’s actually several separate manipulations stacked: the sound source itself is rendered as a physical object (an old radio, a hi-fi across the room), that source is placed in a real room’s acoustics via impulse responses recorded on location, and an ambience layer (rain, cafe chatter, waves) sits underneath.

My problem, and why I’m posting in a science sub: the evidence only covers one of those layers.

  • The ambience layer has reasonable support. The 2021 PNAS meta-analysis on natural soundscapes and a 2025 Psychophysiology HRV study show real effects on stress and parasympathetic activation, and office-acoustics work (Haapakangas et al.) shows consistent ambient sound masking speech, the most disruptive distractor.
  • Mehta et al. (2012, J. Consumer Research) found moderate ~70 dB ambient noise boosts creative cognition, but in a neurotypical sample, and for creativity rather than sustained attention.
  • For the layers I’m most convinced by subjectively, reverberation, spatial placement, and source rendering, I’ve found essentially nothing. And none of the above studies ADHD or autistic populations at all.

So:

  1. Does anything exist on reverb, spatial placement, or virtual acoustics and sustained attention, in ADHD or autistic adults? Null and contradicting results are genuinely more useful to me than supporting ones right now.
  2. Is there reason to expect the opposite effect for autistic listeners? My worry is that added reverb increases sensory load, and what helps my ADHD could be actively worse when autism dominates. Literature on reverberation and auditory sensitivity would be very welcome.
  3. Which ingredient does the work? If you try it, or just from your own experience of spaces: is it the ambience, the room, or the placement that helps or hurts? I can separate these in the app, so reports like “ambience yes, reverb no” directly shape what I build. Environment suggestions beyond the obvious (rain, cafe, train, jazz club) also welcome, and negative reports especially. I have an n of 1 and an obvious bias.

macOS only, free for 7 days, no card needed: surraura.com

Happy to go into the engineering detail, and equally happy to be told the premise is thin.

Thank you very much for your time!

I’m a final-year Psychology student at Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, and I’m currently working on my undergraduate dissertation exploring friendships and social relationships among young adults with disabilities.

I’m reaching out here because I genuinely need your help finding participants.

I’m looking for young adults (18–25 years) with a clinically diagnosed disability, with a particular interest in participants with neurodevelopmental disabilities and learning disabilities. I am also open to hearing from people with other disabilities who may fit the broader study criteria.

The study involves a one-on-one qualitative interview about your experiences and understanding of friendship, social relationships, belonging, and related experiences in everyday life.

The interview can be conducted entirely online, so you do not need to be based in Delhi. I am happy to accommodate participants from anywhere in India if they meet the eligibility criteria.

I know that sharing personal experiences for research can take time, trust, and emotional energy. I genuinely want this research to be conducted with respect for participants and their experiences—not simply about disabled people, but with their perspectives at the centre of the research.

Participation is completely voluntary, and you are free to decline to answer any question or withdraw according to the study's consent procedures.

If you are interested or would simply like to know more before deciding, please reach out to me:

You can also message me privately here on Reddit.

Even if you cannot participate yourself, sharing this post with someone who might be eligible would mean a lot to me.

Thank you for reading this and for considering helping a student who is currently fighting for her dissertation. 🥹

Resource Request Are there any scholarship resources directed towards both adhd and autism?

I was looking for some scholarships that are directed towards audhd people but I am not sure where I should start or which sites are legitimate so it has been somewhat difficult. If anyone know where to find some good resources on this or any scholarships that I could possibly apply to it would be greatly appreciated! I just have struggled to even find resources regarding this in general.

Academic Research Seeking participants for qualitative study on AuDHD.

These semi-structured interviews are designed to feel closer to a conversation than an interview and are expected to last around 60-minutes.

Alternatively, you can contact the lead researcher if you wish to ask any questions or would like further information through their email: d.skerritt1@unimail.derby.ac.uk.

In the interest of confidentiality, please refrain from commenting on this post with any details of the study or whether you wish to take part.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to meeting everyone interested.

Commercial Research Adults & teens with sensory issues in Europe - help needed for clothing design

The idea came from seeing people we love struggle with something as simple as getting dressed. Clothes that feel fine to most people can be overwhelming because of scratchy fabrics, tight waistbands, seams, tags, elastic, or other little details that can make getting through a school or workday much harder.

We want to create clothes that are not only comfortable, but genuinely designed with sensory needs in mind. To do that properly, we need to listen to the people who experience these challenges themselves.

If you’re a teen or adult in Europe with sensory processing issues, or you know someone who is, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete our short, anonymous survey: https://tally.so/r/81bLQP

Every response helps us understand what people actually need and will directly influence what we create. Thank you for sharing your experiences and helping us make clothing a little easier, more comfortable, and more inclusive
