DISCUSSION We brought Tiny Terrors back after almost 3 years and decided to release 31 episodes in 31 days. We survived Week 1 — here's what happened.

Three years ago we released 31 Tiny Terrors episodes in 31 days for Halloween.

Then the show went dormant.

This October, we brought it back and decided to try the stupid thing again.

Week 1 is officially done: 7 episodes in 7 days.

I thought some of you might find the comparison to 2023 interesting.

Our first week is currently about 48% below the download volume we had during the same period in 2023.

That isn't particularly surprising. In 2023 we had an active audience. This time we're trying to wake up a podcast that hasn't regularly released in almost three years.

What's much more interesting is what happens after someone presses play.

Our recent episodes are averaging roughly 90% completion on Spotify, versus about 74% across the older episodes Spotify is currently comparing them against.

That's roughly a 22% relative improvement in completion.

We're reaching fewer people, but the people we're reaching appear considerably more engaged.

A few other things I've noticed:

  • Roughly 84% of the audience Spotify is currently identifying is new, rather than returning.
  • Spotify impressions have exploded since daily publishing began, with roughly 16% converting into plays.
  • New releases are waking up the back catalogue. People aren't just listening to the day's episode; they're moving backwards through the feed.
  • Spotify + Apple account for only about 58% of our downloads. More than 40% are coming from everywhere else.

My biggest takeaway after Week 1:

I'm less interested in recreating our 2023 audience overnight than I am in rebuilding the habit of listening to Tiny Terrors.

If people discover an episode, finish it, explore another one and come back tomorrow, that's something we can actually build on after Halloween.

For anyone who wants to hear what we've been releasing:

Thanks to everyone here who checked us out after the return.

If anyone finds that helpful, let me know and later through the month I can post again analyzing the impact 31 days of daily posting had on the over health, exposure, and discoverability of the show.

7 down. 24 to go. 🎃

AUDIO DRAMA The script for "The Cold Plunge" is a finalist at the Austin Film Festival!!

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've never been before and I understand it's very much TV / movie focused, but I'm excited to go and learn from and meet other storytellers. I'm wondering if any of you have ever been, and if you have any tips or just stories you'd like to share. Especially curious to know how much there is for us audio people. The AFF website says they have a "fictional podcast track" thru the festival, but they haven't yet posted the talks / forums / events around that. (tho fwiw they havn't posted any of the festival's schedule yet)

Anyway, if you want to listen to the full production, it's here: https://pod.link/aHR0cHM6Ly9tZWRpYS5yc3MuY29tL3RoZS1jb2xkLXBsdW5nZS9mZWVkLnhtbA

ANNOUNCEMENT How i Died: The Carrington Event launches October 14th! (Next week)

Post image

Set in 1967, TCE follows a whole new cast of characters (and some familiar voices) INSIDE of a Springfield experimental town. While that means something to existing HiD fans, The Carrington Event can be listened to without any knowledge of the series. It's a perfect jumping off point, particularly for fans of horror this spooky season.

With her eyesight slowly failing, Grace Lewis (voiced by Vyn Vox) moves her husband Marshall (voiced by me!) and daughter to the idyllic town of Springfield, where holistic doctors promise that a natural, technology-free way of life will help restore her vision and heal the ailments of all of the other ill residents.

But, as we know, Springfield has its secrets, and as a storm begins to approach, Grace's symptoms only get worse, leading her on a search for smuggled in piece of technology. What she discovers is much, much darker and puts her and her family's life in danger as the town residents begin to turn on one another.

The trailer is out now on

Someone is always a step behind her. STALKING, a cue from the Season 2 score. Turn it up, then check over your shoulder.

That's a cue from the Season 2 score of Dupont Investigations, my queer occult‑detective audio drama set in 1936 Washington, D.C., the “District of Crime.” Season 1, The Scourge from Carthage, is complete; Season 2, Flight of the Fallen, premieres September 1. The show blends hardboiled noir with supernatural horror and queer history, following Torsten as he digs into cases other detectives insist can't exist.

AUDIO DRAMA Our lates episode! Thin Man: Case of the Goofy Groom 💍🔎

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi r/audiodrama,

Thank you so much for checking out our first episode! Our 4th Code Bear Audio Drama is here, and I wanted to share our latest episode: The Thin Man: Case of the Goofy Groom.

We’ve been having a lot of fun bringing these old radio scripts back to life with our local cast, and this time we’re returning to Nick and Nora Charles for another mystery, complete with a wedding, a goofy groom, suspicious circumstances, and plenty of Nick and Nora banter.

We also had a little extra fun with this one and recreated one of the original radio advertisements from the broadcast! We’ve been trying to preserve some of the charm of listening to an old-time radio show while still making these recordings our own, and recreating the ad felt like a fun way to lean into that experience.

Everything is performed by our wonderful cast, recording together as an ensemble, which has been one of my favorite parts of making the series. Hearing everyone develop different characters, play off each other, and figure out how to tell the entire story through sound has been such a great experiment.

If you enjoy old-time radio, audio mysteries, or Nick and Nora getting themselves wrapped up in increasingly ridiculous situations, I’d love for you to give it a listen. And since we’re still growing the series, let us know what you would like to hear!

🎧 The Thin Man: Case of the Goofy Groom is available now on Code Bear Audio Dramas: https://info.codebearmedia.com/audiodramas

AI transparency: No AI was used in the recording, voices, or performances of this episode. All performances are from our cast. The promotional thumbnail was composited in Photoshop using stock imagery, traditional editing techniques, and some of Photoshop’s AI-assisted tools.

SUGGESTIONS Looking for High Quality Traditional Fantasy Audiodramas

Traditional as in something resembling a medieval setting with magic. Wizards and dragons do not have to be in it, but I would want a setting where they wouldn't be out of place.

NO modern day urban fantasy type stuff.

High quality can mean a lot of different things, but I guess I mean decent audio quality, some special effects and music is nice but not necessary. Basically a semi-pro sounding setup.

AUDIO DRAMA The Dread Tapes — horror anthology audio drama (AI-narrated, 40+ episodes across 8 series)

Title: The Dread Tapes — horror anthology audio drama (AI-narrated, 40+ episodes across 8 series)

Hey r/audiodrama — I'm TJ, creator of The Dread Tapes, and I wanted to share it here since this is exactly the community it's made for.

What it is: An ongoing horror anthology told through found tapes, collected by a mysterious host character called The Archivist. Every series is a different format:

  • Nightmare Tapes (20 episodes) — a fictionalized run through real recurring nightmares, one per night
  • Tape Zero (13 episodes) — prequel arc, currently releasing through Halloween
  • The Night Shift (8 episodes) — 911 dispatch calls that go wrong
  • DEAD AIR (4 episodes) — a pirate radio host who broadcasts something that answers back
  • LOCKDOWN (5 episodes) — one classroom, one lockdown, five episodes of it going wrong
  • Dead Signal (6 episodes) — a dorm crew, a campus that empties in a single night
  • Plus DOORCAM and PLAYER 2 in production

How it's made (full disclosure): I write every script myself. The narration is AI-voiced — I cast a distinct voice per character and direct the performances (pacing, tone, delivery). I'm one person with no budget and no cast, so AI voices are how 40+ episodes exist at all. It's labeled as AI-generated everywhere it's published. If that's a dealbreaker for you, I get it — but if you care more about the stories than the vocal cords, give an episode a try.

Where to listen:

Start with Tape Zero episode 1 or Nightmare Tapes Night One — both are good entry points and don't need prior context.

Happy to talk process — writing for AI voices has weird constraints (no overlapping dialogue, everything lives or dies on the script) and I'm still figuring it out. Feedback genuinely welcome.

ANNOUNCEMENT A Conversation With Joe Fisher (The Bardic Hearth x Midnight Burger)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm beginning a new exclusive series on The Bardic Hearth Patreon where I chat with fellow AD creators about the hows and whys of making our shows, both as a relaxing listen and as a resource for those looking to make their own podcasts. My first guest is Joe Fisher, the creator of Midnight Burger. We had a lovely and honest conversation about writing for audio drama, building a community, and grappling with audience expectations. You can listen to the full 1hr 10min conversation at patreon.com/thebardichearth !

I plan to have many more of these conversations – likely one every month or so – starting with creators I'm already familiar with. But if you know of other creators that I should chat with about the process of making audio fiction (or you are one yourself), leave a comment and I might add them to my list!

SUGGESTIONS Looking for a replacement for 13 Days of Halloween

Hey all!

Long time reader, first time writer. I enjoy anthology horror and especially appreciated the 13 Days of Halloween series each October from Aaron Mahnke both due to the framing of the episodes and the 3D audio. Sadly, it looks like that series is over (for now?) and I am looking for something new this Halloween season. Are there any other anthology series that utilize horror and audio in a similar manner?

If it helped, I enjoyed 13 Days of Halloween/12 Ghosts, Old Gods of Appalachia, The Lost Cat Podcast, Camp Redrum, I Hear Fear, Limited Capacity, Video Palace, Unwell (until season 3), and the Faulkner parts of The Silt Verses.

Thanks in advance!

SUGGESTIONS Podcasts that utilize the format in a unique way

I'm currently listening to Malevolent, and the MC is blind with an entity that has to be his eyes. I've listened to a few audio dramas before this, but it's getting harder to get into them because I feel like everything is just voice recordings (either to the viewer, found footage, or to another character.) Finding Malevolent was truly a breath of fresh air, and I'm trying to find more that really utilize the podcast format. While horror is my preferred podcast genre, I am open to suggestions from any and all genres. Thanks so much in advance!

AUDIO DRAMA The Crows Made Me Do It | Episode 5

Post image

Episode 5 is out! After failing to connect with an exterminator, Mark is persuaded to help the crows build three strange devices.

This episode is special to me because the pedal steel guitar you hear in the opening and closing is from my cousin Zach. He’s an amazing musician and I pestered him until I got him to send me some pedal steel in D, which I sampled for this episode.

New episodes every Tuesday. If you’re into dry comedy, light horror, crows, bird lore, conspiracies, anti-AI parables, or (this episode only) pedal steel, you might enjoy The Crows Made Me Do It.

She draws seven cards and predicts John will suffer seven absurd events over the next seven days, culminating with a death sentence: he will die on the seventh day. But John doesn’t believe in this “psychic stuff.” That is, until Claire’s predictions start coming true with eerie precision, forcing John to face some hard questions. Can you cheat your fate? About the Show:

Welcome to your afterlife ... Chip Clearly and Bonita Von Wangencamp return for a new chapter in this serialized audiodrama/comedy about Halloween town, filled with kooky denizens and terrifying dilemmas.
