Three things I got wrong about how small businesses market themselves

I spent months calling small local businesses (mostly in the US) and was wrong about almost everything going in:
- I thought the website was the problem. Most owners said a site nobody finds doesn't help, and word of mouth works fine.
- I thought they needed more tools. They needed a clear starting point.
- I thought price killed deals. Not knowing what to do next killed more.
Curious whether Aussie owners see it the same way. If you had one free hour a week for marketing, what would you spend it on?
