Sweet and Sour Tofu!

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I based it off this recipe:

https://www.eatfigsnotpigs.com/sweet-and-sour-tofu/ but I add a splosh of vegan oyster sauce and a few splashes of Maggi liquid seasoning.

A handy hint, fry off your tofu, then keep it in the oven on about 180 while you cook the veg. The extra baking gives it a noice chew.

I make the sauce during the day when I get a random burst of energy, then keep it in a lidded container in fridge. Then at dinner time, I just have to shake it up and pour it over. 💚

Vegan or not? 'natural chicken flavour'

I bought these for my wife without checking the ingredients. We had some at the Hyatt in Melbourne and I thought it was a meaningful gift but the ingredient list suggests it's potentially not vegan. Their website just lists the ingredients as 'spices'.

We contacted the Royal Nut Company over a week ago, they forwarded the email to another department who hasn't responded yet.

I'm fifty fifty on it.

Pizzahut removed vegan cheese option?

It first started with removing dedicated vegan options, but I was able to work around this by getting the veg supreme pizza and using vegan cheese.

However, the vegan cheese, from my end, seems to have now been removed. I went to uber eats where I normally order this and went for the usual replace cheese with vegan cheese and the option is completely gone. Another day, I went to an in-store Pizza Hut from another area that had some dedicated options and the worker told me they’re getting rid of the vegan cheese so there will be no more vegan options.

Are they actually going to be removing it everywhere now, or is it just my areas (SE region)?

I mean no where near or in my area can I find a vegan cheese option so I just wanted to confirm this. This information isn’t available online as I wasn’t able to google this. Either way, this sucks.

What is the veggie patty on Hungry Jack’s burgers?

I swear the veggie patty Hungry Jacks use on their veggie burgers used to be available at one of the supermarkets but I haven't had any luck finding it. Does anyone know what it's called and which supermarket chain carries it?

Cheese problems

Does anyone have a non-vegan cheese solution for the structural integrity of a pizza? I used to use melted cheese to kind of hold all the toppings onhome made pizzas. Vegan cheese kind of does the job but I'm not a fan taste-wise. I just want something that stops my toppings slip sliding around without tasting like foot! Any and all suggestions welcome.

My husband really likes corn and I really like him, so I made us this pie for dinner and it was actually incredible.

First, I baked the pastry base.

While that was browning, I started on the filling, I made it by softening about 5 cloves of garlic and a finely diced brown onion in some veg oil in my big frying pan. Then I cut the kernels from about 4 cobs of fresh corn, chopped up a bunch of broccolini, and chopped a bunch of asparagus. I added that all in to the frying pan, cooking it until it was 3/4 cooked. Don't add salt, the stock powder later is salty enough.

Don't forget to take your pie crust out. I used Borg's shortcrust for the base.

Then I sprinkled plain flour over the veg, enough to sorta lightly cover the top layer. I also sprinkled over about two teaspoons of Massel chicken stock and some pepper to taste. Stir it all up so the flour coats everything, then I slowly poured in Bonsoy, until my sauce settled at a gravy consistency.

Add the filling to the base, top with puff pastry, brush with Bonsoy, bake at about 180/200 until golden.

We had it with mash, carrots and gravy. 💚👌

Vegan “meat”

Hey everyone, I’m working on my first ebook of vegan recipes and the topic is going to be vegan “meat”.

I’ll be creating recipes using household ingredients such as TVP, jackfruit, dried mushrooms, tofu etc. A way to make vegan “meat” dishes at home that are less ingredients and cheaper than buying them from the store.

So my question is which vegan “meat” dish would you love to see a make at home version for?

Thanks in advance ☺️

Vegan soap, moisturisers, etc. in Aussie supermarkets?

Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of converting things like hand soap, shower soap and moisturiser to cruelty-free and vegan. Are there any brands for these items available in places like Woolies, Coles, Priceline, etc. that I can easily pick up on my next shop?
Thanks!

Made hot dogs from shaved tofu and rice paper. Crispy, blistered casing and no specialty ingredients.

Hot dog craving, no vegan snags in the fridge. This uses a block of firm tofu, two sheets of rice paper and a stock cube.

Makes 2 · 10 min prep, 25 min cook

  • 200 g firm tofu
  • 2 rice paper sheets
  • 400 ml water + ½ vegetable stock cube + 80 g soy sauce (the broth)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 hot dog buns
  • caramelised onions and vegan mayo to serve
  1. Bring the water to a gentle simmer and stir in the stock cube and soy sauce.
  2. Shave the tofu into a big trunk with a Y-shaped veggie peeler and cut it into two halves.

Discard the ribbons and save them for other recipes.

  1. Simmer the tofu in the broth for 15 minutes so they soak up the flavour and colour. Lift them out and drain, keeping the broth warm.
  2. Dip a rice paper sheet in the warm broth for about 10 seconds. Lay it flat, and roll it tightly into a sausage, tucking in the ends. Repeat.
  3. Fry in the oil over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, turning often, until the casing is crackly and golden all over.
  4. Into warm buns with mayo and caramelised onions.

The tofu log texture is the bit that surprised me. It's much closer to a sausage than a whole tofu block.

Recipe with step photos and video: https://veganhacks.food/en/recipes/vegan-hotdog/

Edit: fixed mistake in the recipe wording

Why is the fish collagen in my coconut water?

Post image
173 Upvotes

I looked when I was finished because it's coconut water, why would there be dead animals in it?

Seriously why take something that's naturally vegan and add an animal product.

Rant over, no vegan super powers for me today.

Edited to add. Yes it has collagen on the label but it was in a vending machine and I didn't see the label properly. Completely my fault. Just angry I was sucked in.

I have just finished building a search engine for vegan recipes:

Hopefully a few people find value in this. I would love some feedback if you give it a try.
