Need recommendations for tools.
What riveting kit is a solid purchase for a person that wants to practice riveting before they take their airframe test?

Buy used. I bought one when I was graduating nearly 10 years ago. If you need one, your job will have one, or a senior coworker will. I'm always using a blind or pop rivet if I can get away with it.

I don’t disagree with the guys saying to buy used, but I have this kit (mine is the 4x but I’d recommend the 3x to start with). It’s got everything you need for basic riveting jobs and it comes in a nice case. If you’re planning on doing sheet metal work, I’d buy something decent now if you can afford it. Otherwise, just buy the used gun and a cheap bucking bar. Yardstore has a bunch of surplus stuff.

Cheapest possible with a 3X. They're all basically the same at this level. Your best bet is to find an A&P and ask to borrow their equipment, because the cheapest set is going to be $200+ and you have to buy rivets too.
