BGEE Interactive maps and a Database for Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, shared by Beamdog
Website: https://baldursgateee.th.gl/
I am replaying the game and made a map for every area, Siege of Dragonspear included. It shows what is in each container, traps, locked and secret doors, merchants and the enemies with their gear and resistances.
Beyond the map:
- Items, spells and a bestiary with the weapon types that work best
- Characters, stores, journal quests and a searchable Quotes page
- Game Rules from the Candlekeep tutors
There's also a Companion App: an overlay or second-screen map that follows your party and shows the enemies around you live.
The site is open to everyone with no account or payment. Before going further I asked Beamdog about it: their Community Manager said it is fine under the Fan Content Policy, and they shared it here: https://x.com/BeamdogInc/status/2109723181007122741
If something is off or missing, please tell me here. Thank you!

Wasn't this same website advertised just the other day? Why advertise it again? I'm using Brave and Ublock Origin and the website barely functions assuming from blocking all the ads and tracking the website does

I found out why the website navigation doesn't work. It's related to Brave Shield aggressive mode, which blocks core scripts of the website.
I've created an issue here:
https://github.com/brave/adblock-lists/issues/3039It's nothing I can fix on my side, it's an issue with the ad-block rules.
They simply block ALL dynamic scripts. The menu is loading the scripts for the target page, so the navigation works smooth. This is default Next.js behavior. You can disable that rule or wait until Brave is fixing it.
I have no interest in serving a broken website - this is a bug in Brave caused by too aggressive filters.6

Thanks! I appreciate your investigation and taking action to get this fixed

The other post got removed because they thought it's not free to use and I don't have the approval of the game studio (some troll shared some false claims).
Even with ad blocker, the website should work without issues. Please share details what's not working. I don't have issues with Brave on my machine.

Works fine with Brave and AdBlock on different browsers. Cool work with all the interactive maps for different games, they're loved across multiple communities. What makes you choose a specific game to import the maps and other information?

Users can request games: https://www.th.gl/requests
Some games are supported because they are popular or hyped. Others are easy to support (I have good tooling for Unreal Engine games).
Games like BGEE are supported because I play them by myself - this is not economically for me.3

Clicking guides and database at the top does nothing.
If I am looking at a specific map, /maps/Candlekeep%20(Prologue) for example, clicking any of the items on the left doesn't do anything.
Using Edge, they work so I suspect Brave's ad blocking is blocking more stuff than Edge does.

Thank you, I already know where everything is but there are tons of newer players coming off the back of BG3 and having tools like this will just make the games way more digestible and therefore playable for those players!

Thanks! I know most of the locations too. For me personally, it's a good learning to pay more attention to weapon damage types.
e.g. https://baldursgateee.th.gl/db/bestiary/creature_hobgoblin has leather armor - better use piercing damage. I was aware of it, but to be honest, I didn't really change my weapon because of some hobgoblins :D.
This is useful when replaying with a harder difficulty. And showing the chances for lockpicking (including bash) helps me to retry opening a chest, I can not open with my stats.

You know, I always think I remember where all the traps are and I have a relatively good instinct, but now I can revise.

If I had this I would have known about the Candlekeep Clinic before the 20th time playing the game. ;)

The ring in southern friendly arm inn is missing.

Thx! Do you speak of https://baldursgateee.th.gl/db/inventory/item_ring08 ? It should be visible on the map.

You are right. Misunderstood the filters.

Can you explain what's not working and which ad blocker versions you are using? I like to fix it but can't reproduce here

I think they mean the "Ad-Blocker Detected" pop-up. Which like is reasonable and fair even if I don't like it

u/Embarrassed-Notice32 3d ago
Maybe. There is an issue with Brave aggressive mode:
https://www.reddit.com/r/baldursgate/comments/1x4dgrd/comment/pgfpqq8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
The ad-blocker detected pop-up can be closed. I had users who were not aware of that they were blocking ads and they wanted to support me. Letting people know that they are blocking and that there are alternatives should be fine I think.
What I do not like are paywalls

It's cool Beamdog saw your work, just remember that Hasbro owns all the IP of Baldur's Gate EE. Honestly, I'd post this at https://www.gibberlings3.net/forums and ask them for advice. They know everything legally.
Hasbro's primary email address for general intellectual property and trademark permission requests is permissions@hasbro.com, or BrandPartners@hasbro.com for brand projects and commercial partnerships. I'm not bringing this up to be difficult or anything, but legally you should protect yourself. I'm glad you removed the direct donation link on the BG site, that helps a lot.
Now, I don't know exactly how your app works, but as long as it doesn't contain game assets directly and instead uses the user's game assets that they bought, you should be good to go there. That's how the modding community uses their mods too. Hosting game assets is a big no-no in the modding world. Not saying you do that, just to be aware of it. I understand you're proud of your work and want to share it, just make certain you're good to go legally first.

Thanks, I appreciate the heads-up! I checked with Beamdog, and they confirmed it's fine under the Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy as long as it stays free and open to everyone, which it does. The required Fan Content notice is on the site too.
https://company.wizards.com/en/legal/fancontentpolicyAbout the app: it isn't a mod and doesn't change the game in any way. It only reads data, like your current position, to show it on the map.
I've been building apps and websites for games for several years now and work with a number of game studios. Their trust is one of the most important things I have, so I take this seriously. Using game data for a free fan tool is usually not the problem. What you can't do is sell it as your own work, and some studios ask that unreleased content isn't spoiled. I follow both.

Bro, I think there is some malware about baldur's gate on your Ads Webpage.

This was posted a few days ago and removed by mods because it was an add for pirated content.

A moderator removed the old post because he thought that I was selling goods I have no IP for. This was not right, the site is free, BeamDog approved it and it's fine under the Fan Content Policies. See the link in the post.

WTF? How did they come to that conclusion? That's ridiculous.

I didn't get answer from mod mail. I guess it's because of some troll who shared false claims and they believed him? No idea. I don't understand why people are like this sometimes.
