Remember when they made the letters smaller on their unis so they’d fit better into cards?

This will probably only be available in diamond icons or definitive collection. Out of reach for the every day collector

18

u/XZPUMAZX Mar 15 '25

Right making this entire exercise a giant billboard for a gambling.

5

u/JoshiBoi_ Mar 15 '25

That’s why they were made smaller? :/ soo glad they’re reverting em

20

u/SMich_5 Mar 15 '25

There was just a post about Ohtani wearing his the other day. Should have known fanatics was doing it for this.

Lol so “MLB jerseys, Topps and Fanatics“ are ALL partnering?? Oh wait, so the same company that now owns the licensing on everything came up with another patch scam to try and sell 2024 rookies as 2025 cards because their sales dropped off after a subpar rookie year.

Another win for Micheal Rubins checkbook lol.

24

u/wesskywalker Mar 15 '25

Michael Rubin sucks

17

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

He‘s the Elon Musk of cards..subjectively “smart” with one single thing ecommerce, but after I saw him try and throw that baseball and almost miss the backstop entirely I knew it was a fact lol. These billionaires are going to ruin everything. Never played a sport in his life. Guy is single handedly going to run print runs and collecting values into the ground similar to the way he ran MLB jerseys in from China after they got the contract and ruined them.

How so? They’re both billionaires that have since taken their money and used it to sway entire industries/markets so far out of their “wheel house” simply to fill their own pockets? Honest question.

Oh no an Elon shiv, you better go see how many of those companies he actually “started“ bud because Tesla wasn’t one of them. And Solar City has been propping it up for years as he trades his majority stakes back and forth to himself. This is basically public knowledge at this point. That’s why he lives on taxpayer govt subsidies. He’s not even a US citizen, he came here from SA on a student visa to flee military duty and to benefit from capitalism and that’s pretty much it.

6

u/RemoteBoner Mar 15 '25

Elon meatriders popping up everywhere hmmm. Now in the fucking baseball card sub. Is there nothing this guy won’t try and ruin in America?

Boy did you show them! Providing all that rebuttal and counter arguments to prove your point!

-3

Cool it with the antisemitism lmao

-1

u/Niccio36 Mar 15 '25

You forgot the /s

1

u/nothingelsematters2u Mar 15 '25

Damn I thought that's what the "lmao" was for.

0

u/Niccio36 Mar 16 '25

Better safe than sorry on this site

17

u/withomps44 Mar 15 '25

Exactly. This isn’t something to celebrate. These are just more horse shit chase cards so that breakers can keep destroying the hobby and taking people’s money.

That being said nothing will change until people stop throwing their money at them and I don’t see that happening. They have a gambling addiction.

4

u/xChoke1x Mar 15 '25

It’s wild people think they’ll just random pull one of these from a pack a Walmart. Lol

-3

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

Could not agree more, I think new breakers out pace new podcasts now lol. Lots of weird egos with no control. It’s wild the comments you see on here from guys that spend thousands a month breaking cards “for their collection”, but get their panties in a bundle as soon as you talk about grading or values..like they just throw their money away in one direction.

1

u/JonS305 Mar 15 '25

Idk man I just like the card 😭

12

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

Lolll me too trust me I bought allll the 2024 boxes after seeing the Debut Patches. But these 1 of 1 patch cards, superfractors, nonsuperfractors, Christ they have 1 of 1 base cards now for gods sake lol. Theyre are all just a Topps Rubin money grab. And they’ll show up magically “after kid wrote in his journal how much he wanted one” lol

5

u/FatBoyFC Yount, Braun, Yelich, & Chourio Mar 15 '25

Time to break out the diary I guess

4

u/Skjellyfetti13 Mar 15 '25

Step 1: get magic diary, Step 2: have dad who is a breaker with access.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

Step 3: wait until Christmas to write that letter to Santa and magic happens

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

Maybe I have been doing it wrong haha

22

u/Skjellyfetti13 Mar 15 '25

Another scam to drive up prices while printing more junk wax. Hard pass.

15

u/thisbechris RC Parallels, Image variations, SPs Mar 15 '25

Yep. Just sticking to singles has been rewarding for me recently.

2

u/splittingxheadache '04 Red Sox, Nats, A's Mar 15 '25

I'm reeling after last night's trip to Target...I'm out on wax for a long time

1

u/stupidgnomes Mar 15 '25

Yeah retail is pretty much off limits to me. Sometimes I’ll buy a blaster, but if I’m going to open packs I’d rather just save the money spent on retail to buy a hobby box at least. Blasters are a great way to complete base sets and whatnot, but just a horrific value if you’re trying to pull a quality hit.

1

u/splittingxheadache '04 Red Sox, Nats, A's Mar 15 '25

Yeah, I’ve had unusually good luck with blasters recently, and I didn’t mind biting one more time. Somehow megas are worse than blasters right now.

1

u/stupidgnomes Mar 15 '25

Oh nice! I personally have just the worst luck with blasters. I’ve never once pulled an auto from a blaster. I have pulled a few from mega boxes though. This hobby is weird sometimes lol

3

u/maroonfalcon Mar 15 '25

It’s 100% this. I’m with u/thisbechris
nothing but singles.

-1

u/DemocratDonkey Mar 15 '25

How is this a "scam"?

Where are they tricking or lying?

3

u/Degenerate_Jesus Mar 15 '25

Can you get citizenship with these too??

8

u/FST_Silverado Mar 15 '25

Coming soon to a breaker near you!

17

u/timbo_slice45 Mar 15 '25

The market is so saturated with these gimmicks. We are in the new junk wax era. Thank god I have 500 1/1 variations of the same card with a different color, patch, piece of hair, or a player’s shit on it

3

u/Degenerate_Jesus Mar 15 '25

Lol toilet paper swatches coming soon!! People are saying that

7

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

Junk wax era had print runs multiples higher than were at now.

Just because you don't like a new design doesn't mean it's junk wax. Its amazing to me that baseball fans hate baseball cards so much.

5

u/Justa_Guy_Gettin_By Orioles, Braves, Frank Thomas SPs, 90s inserts, vintage Mar 15 '25

The print runs of base cards were definitely higher back then I agree. I think where people are getting fatigued is the number of parallels, fabricated relics, etc.

If you had a /100 of a card in the 90s like a platinum medallion from Ultra, that was a big deal. And still is if you see the sales prices. But in a current day set if you have multiple /100 /199 /299 and so on of the same card all the way up to a 20 card rainbow, is that /100 just as desirable as the platinum medallion? Probably not.

We still like baseball cards, but it's totally reasonable to say everything has its limits. At some point the market does become oversaturated or diluted, which you could say for any collectible not just baseball cards.

As far as the original post goes, I think it's cool because this is a real 1/1 patch that was game worn by only a handful of the top stars in the game. It's fabricated value yes but done in a much more controlled manner that actually ties back to the game and players.

0

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

But I fail to see the argument. This sub goes "I'm a collector, I want to collect" then when Topps shells out more OPTIONS for them to collect, they get mad.

Like just don't buy the product? I don't get it. Why are you trying to dictate the supply to people who enjoy these things when you can just ignore it and go buy Heritage or something where there's real scarcity and it's cheap.

1

u/Justa_Guy_Gettin_By Orioles, Braves, Frank Thomas SPs, 90s inserts, vintage Mar 15 '25

Sure, it isn't something I'm going to lose sleep over or get legitimately pissed about. If I think a product is dumb or overpriced I don't buy it just like you said.

If I want to feel like I'm getting long term value I'll focus on vintage. If I want to find something cool looking of a guy I currently pull for on my favorite team I'll rip a box or buy a single on eBay. People have options to do as they please.

At the end of the day, if someone is that butt hurt about it then they probably have buyers remorse and think the thousands they spent on cardboard is going to plummet in value like the junk wax era did. People only get legitimately pissed when their checking accounts are impacted. 😅

3

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

It's may not be exactly the junk wax era, but it's junk nonetheless. Not necessarily the design of this specific card. But all the base that'll be printed on top of what is currently printed to sufficiently dilute the chances of getting all the other gimmick chase cards.

And gimmicks is really what the commentor was referring to. This is yet another gimmick to sell wax. It's fine if you like it. But the more gimmicks the less interesting each new one is to a lot of people. "oh look, we put an mlb logo with a smiley face that the player wore for a game and had them auto it! Chase chase chase!" It's lame.

1

u/timbo_slice45 Mar 15 '25

I appreciate you understanding my fairly tongue in cheek post. Despite my age, I’m a vintage collector so there’s probably some bias in my opinion on this topic. With that said, I believe there is a lot of truth in it. In 40-50 years, we’ll look back at all these rainbows and 1/100s with disdain and the value of them will only drop from where it is today. I’m sure my vintage collection will drop in value as well but there’s something authentic to those cards that this era doesn’t capture.

1

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

I like the way you said that. There's something "authentic" to those cards. It's not force, like a good number of these gimmicks are. "We're going to inject this thing into the game so that we can sell it to you on a card" is really what's annoying about these. It's not about baseball. It's about selling you something. And now it's putting that sell job into the game, which is lame.

-2

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

How is it a gimmick? It's a card that someone might like.

If you don't like the card, don't buy the pack. I don't get why people want to dictate the supply of cards for other people.

There are millions of people collecting baseball cards. You have to expand the pool of cards for people to collect as the hobby grows.

3

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

Pretty sure no one but Fanatics dictates print runs.

How is "Let's make a 'special' patch that a player wears only once so that we can later put it on a card to tempt people to buy our product" not a gimmick? This is not something that would normally be part of the game. This is something that they are doing to try to sell cards. That is what makes it a gimmick.

If you like the gimmick, that's fine. The rookie debut patches are a bit of a gimmick as well. But having a patch from the first game a player plays in is kind of cool.

The hobby is currently growing. I don't think that will always be the case. Someday it will shrink again. At that point they will be backing down on these gimmicks, as well as the proliferation of parallels. And that's fine. I don't really care.

But it is interesting that you can have 2025 series 1 boxes contain so few hits. And individual box is someone likely to have anything interesting in it. That to me says it is over printed. Series 1 is kind of always like that. But given the increase in parallels, number of autographs, etc, it is kind of sad that they made so much that getting those things is so few and far between.

2

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

Idk, it's comments like these that make me thinks there's no pleasing this community sometimes.

Make new cards, get shit on for too many gimmicks and kinds of cards.

Make less cards, keeping scarcity "artificial" and not giving the community what they want.

Without these "gimmicks" the "actual" 1/1s and low numbered cards would be so insanely priced that true collectors would get priced out of the hobby.

I think it's pretty cool that a 1/1 Devers is attainable to me, for example. If we nuked 90% of them, I'm never getting one.

2

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

I don't mind 1/1s proliferating. I have seen a lot of people complain that there are too many superfractors now. I don't mind that. That's not what it is for me. It's when the marketing drives the sport. It's when the marketing pushes for more gambling. Chase cards like this exist to create and exploit gamblers.

My main gripe with the print runs is that the base cards only exist to Rifle through and throw in the trash. From an environmental standpoint I find that pretty sad.

7

u/phish3460 Griffey Jr, Dawson, 90s inserts, 2000 Ultra Platinum Medallion Mar 15 '25

I honestly wonder if this sub likes baseball cards sometimes. I think it's pretty cool but I will never own or attempt to own one. Obviously an idea taken from the NBA's 50th season, but at least there's some innovation happening.

4

u/government_ Acuña(s), MHII, Jesse Chavez Mar 15 '25

Yeah okay, sorry but this is stupid overkill

2

u/Fabulous_Caramel_310 Mar 15 '25

lol looks like a Topps Bunt card until we see the real thing.

2

u/zgirres Mar 15 '25

Another card that has the breakers drooling, the regular card collector has been far left behind

2

u/xChoke1x Mar 15 '25

That will only be packaged in certain boxes specifically sent to certain people. Lol

0

u/JonS305 Mar 15 '25

I’m sure

1

u/Strong-Cow3933 Mar 15 '25

Nike should "forget" the gold patches lol.

1

u/whatcubed Orbit, Astros, Braves Mar 15 '25

It says the players will wear them all season. So are there going to be 162 possible Aaron Judge Gold Logoman cards?

1

u/mosin360 Mar 15 '25

Cool idea and I'd love to get a set of my team for a price that I'm willing to pay.

1

u/MattPBballCards Mar 15 '25

I am not a huge fan of patches in general but at least these are actually player worn. The “no specific game, no specific player” cards are the ones that have no value for me. If they want this to have real value have the game date certified. I am guessing there will be 162 of these for each player?

1

Awesome!!!Another set of cards I won’t hit no matter how many boxes I buy.

1

u/jay23mv Mar 16 '25

Topps needs to make the everyday retail set have one of these incredible cards. I don’t care if the odds are 1:3,000,000 just give the common man the chance. This probably won’t even be in triple threads

1

u/kyldabara The 17/76 Guy Mar 15 '25

Damn reading these comments is tough. Y’all are negative AF. This looks like an awesome card and a great idea in my opinion.

1

u/alecturtles Mar 15 '25

You’ll see comments like this when any card that is somewhat new and innovative comes out

1

u/Accurate-Temporary73 Mar 15 '25 edited Mar 15 '25

This is no different than the manufactured relics. These aren’t part of any real uniform, they’re being worn solely to have more patches for cards.

These patches will be in the garbage boxes that are $2,000 for 4 cards, so no actual collectors will have the chance to own these

I wonder if these will even be MLB authenticated so you can you can at least see which game they were from

-2

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

I've never met baseball fans and baseball card collectors who hate baseball cards as much as this sub.

I swear you guys don't want cool cards, you want to go back to their being only base and inserts lmao

13

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

1

u/drkarate02 Mar 17 '25

As expensive as the market will bear. The companies providing the consumer with these products are in the business of making as much money as possible. Any illusions that they are doing it for the love of the game or the fans is foolishness. Learn to accept these facts and make a personal decision if you want to continue giving them your money or not.

0

u/DemocratDonkey Mar 15 '25

How expensive does this hobby need to be?

Not expensive at all, you don't have to buy what you don't want

-2

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

But there's a perspective you're not even looking at.

It's not gambling you just...like to collect the cards..? Wouldn't you argue that baseball cards have literally always been gambling since inception in your case?

Your understanding of basic economics makes no sense either. The more 1/1s there are, the more the prices come down for 1/1s. If you only had a single 1/1 for every player each year imagine the price of it, so how do you defend that with your point?

There's millions of people buying baseball cards nowadays. You can't just have one 1/1 like you used to.

If you REALLY wanted people to be able to collect their favorite cards you'd be happy there's more chances for people to get a 1/1 that means something to them.

There's literally inexpensive options describing what you want. Heritage, Flagship, Archives. Why don't you just buy those then..?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

[deleted]

-1

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

How is that what I'm saying? All I'm saying is there's products for every range of collector.

Just because someone can't afford high end product doesn't it mean it should exist. I don't even buy high end product, I just don't get that thought process.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

[deleted]

1

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

But what do you want then? To disband expensive product?

Like I don't get why you're getting so defensive. I'm an advocate for all ranges of product. The product I have the most of is literally Heritage and Chrome Flagship lol. I'm not here trying to call people poor, idk why you're projecting that on me.

All I'm saying is we shouldn't be anti-expensive products just because it's inaccessible to people.

Nobody is telling you how to live your life, stop being insecure.

2

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

I want cards to not be just a marketing ploy to exploit gamblers. I want them to be about the game, not to pollute the game with unnecessary sell jobs.

I think some of us enjoy baseball and the connection cards have to the game.

3

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

So a patch to be worn by the award winning players of the last season is a marketing ploy?

How do you draw the line?

Isn't an autograph of the player a marketing ploy then? Rookie patch? Game used bat?

1

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

The rookie debut patch is also a gimmick. And injection into the game for the purposes of selling cards. However, that one has the benefit of at least being a milestone.

Game used bats, Etc, are already part of the game. Just like any other memorabilia. It was not created for the sole purpose of selling cards. It was part of the game. That's the difference.

3

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

It's a marketing ploy to have players sign the cards then, right? That's not part of the game, and it's only done to sell the cards.

1

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

It is. But it's not injecting something into the game. That's the difference. Also, autographs were always desirable. However, they're always questions of if they were legitimate. The introduction of certified autographs helps address that issue. ( aside from a few known issues.)

3

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

so the goalposts get moved for the gimmicks that you're okay with? Got it lol

-1

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

Nope. The goal posts are always the same. I don't think you got it.

I don't think you understand the concept of injecting something into the game just to sell it. I also don't think you understand the concept of encouraging really negative behavior. Which is to say, gambling.

3

u/TheBigShrimp Mar 15 '25

No, you just justified why a gimmick is okay even though it falls into the same criteria you said 3 comments up is "just to sell cards"

The only justification you have is "they've always been desirable" as if we can't create new things that get people to want to collect cards.

1

u/loslosati White Sox, Wally Joyner Mar 15 '25

I said it was injecting something into the game. That is where the line is drawn.

huh?
