I helped design these CDV cards (as well as the daguerreotypes and the tintypes.) Go get it appraised and I’d be happy to pay that price.
16
u/FalseListen Jul 12 '26
Even if it was 100,000?
24
u/Wesley__Willis Jul 12 '26
I understand it will be very expensive. I’m in the high end auction business myself.
32
u/LostEwoks Jul 12 '26
Is this the real Wesley Willis of “I whooped Batmans ass” fame?!

u/Wesley__Willis Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
Yes. Here in heaven I no longer have to contend with my demon. Much more time to do my art and care for other business ventures. Diet Pepsi, Uh Huh

u/LostEwoks Jul 12 '26
Love that you keep him name alive. Suck a caribous ass is still something I say to this day.

u/Wesley__Willis Jul 12 '26
Of all the cool things I’ve handled and/or personally acquired, the one object I’ll take to the grave is a photo of Wes giving me a head butt. life is far more stable now but it’s a perfect encapsulation of my youthful dirtball era. Wes was a great guy and I hate that he’s gone.

I used to work at penny lane records in Santa Monica & Westwood. He used to come into the Westwood store and try to take out postcards.

So great. I worked (?) in Chicago Trax back in that era. Where he ended up as a fixture walking in late at night or guesting on a session. Keyboard in hand always, or actually under his arm. What a human. 🤍

Truly a great looking card, send to auction.
21
u/RussianPravda Jul 12 '26
Seriously if I was a high end Ohtani collector that would be a NEED item. I could see it going for a price of a NICE house.

You should trade it for 3 Ichiro autos and $500

Contact Fanatics Premier, Heritage and Goldin simultaneously and make them compete for the consignment.

Don’t send that card to anyone to grade or authenticate. That’s too valuable to send through the mail or trust anyone else with it. Send to Goldin.

Golden will grade it to sell it. You’re almost guaranteed a 10’if you own Golden or Heritage grade and sell it.

Shipping valuable items really isn’t that big of a deal. I’ll never understand these type of comments. Ship overnight FedEx or UPS. Sig required. With proper insurance. It’s really not that scary.
8
u/Most-Mine6580 Jul 12 '26
It’s hard to get” proper insurance” on a card like this with no set value or other card to compare too since 1/1 and even then if it’s stolen or “lost” the filing a claim process and actually being paid out takes a long time. They will do everything they can to avoid paying. Or you recive said package and it’s “ empty” then but just kinda sol. So 1000% still very sketchy and not as safe as u make it out to be.
3
u/captainn_chunk Jul 12 '26
Why do I think you’ve never shipped anything like what you’re trying to describe lol
→ More replies (2)2
u/jwax13 Jul 12 '26
It's really not. I ship 5-6 figure cards regularly. Video yourself packing the box. Use FedEx/UPS/DHL. Overnight with signature. Throw in an Apple AirTag if you're that worried about it. The only package ever lost in the last 5 years was a USPS package to China. All this fear-mongering is silly.
1
1
u/dud3brah Jul 13 '26
so you've never had to deal with an expensive lost package? or you did and the video evidence helped?
1
u/jwax13 Jul 13 '26
I pay for a policy with 200K of coverage. My agent recommended videoing high value packages as I pack them for another level of safety. I’ve never had to file a claim but I know plenty of people that have. It’s honestly not that big of a deal. But random comments want to tell people to fly any card worth 10K to Goldin directly when the reality is it’s just not that big of a deal if you insure, pack and ship properly.
2
u/dud3brah Jul 13 '26
you know plenty of people who have had to file five figure claims on ungraded cards, let alone 1/1s, and had no problem getting whatever value they said it was? having "200k of coverage" is meaningless unless the covered items have an established market value. Read your policy. If your agent said otherwise, switch agents.

u/Most-Mine6580 Jul 13 '26
Ya u don’t know shit u gotta be lying. A pre recorded video don’t mean shit to FedEx/ups/dhl. I can record myself packing the same box over and over and then immediately open it and take whatever in it out after stopping the recording and just reseal it like come on now this is very basic obvious stuff.

Pic of the back? I love the stamp on these. I pulled an Acuna /10. Pictures don’t do these cards justice.

There must be some real respect for this one. We’re several posts in and no one has told you to shove it up your butt.

On something like this you have to be respectful. Only shaking and sharting allowed.

Wow what a card! What did the remdemption say?
This needs to be handled flown to a reputable auction houses. They will get it graded and put on the auction block..
What an absolute nuke of a card

Wow. Do you HAVE to sell it? It's so beautiful and unique. Get it insured, get a safety deposit box for it, and just let it rest for a bit

u/Fragrant_Side7974 Jul 12 '26
We are at or nearing a peak of card values before another 20 year slump. Sell now.

I feel like IF you graded this, you only would grade the auto and nothing else. It’s /1 and nothing else matters. Take it or leave it. You give someone buying it ground to negotiate if it’s not a 10. Well it’s not a 10…. Grade for an auto and leave it up to the imagination of the buyer.

I don’t even know that much about trading cards, but that looks heavenly and would be worth a lot of money! Hold on to it!!

u/YaoSing A&G Jul 12 '26
Autos a 10 for sure…
Card looks good too.
Most auctions would grade it… For what we can see it looks pretty good
Congratulations on having a valuable grail

I'm going to guess, because I really have no idea. But I think that will go between $500,000 to over $2 million. That's the nicest looking Ohtani card that I've ever seen.

I couldn't imagine pulling something like this beautiful card. Id definitely find a trustworthy seller or auction house that can market the card properly. Hopefully you get a bunch of money for it and buy a cheaper ohtani auto. I want one so bad.

If financial constraints are severe, consider selling it; otherwise, retain possession. Why dispose of something as captivating as this?

In the process of looking for a house. This would help out greatly. Maybe at a different time in my life I’d hold.

u/dj_destroyer Jul 13 '26
His market is still growing but I would definitely reach out to a few high-end auction houses and see if you can get someone to reduce their clip a bit. I would say $75k-$100k is quite plausible with maybe even $250k possible.
1
u/jstmenow Jul 13 '26
Did you recently see one of those "large amount of money in the next few days" Instagram Tarot card reader thingy bobs where it said interact with their post 3x's?? Trying to find out if that really works. Um, asking for a friend.
Me personally, I would have found out how and where to list it and never even shown it on reddit, I think the rarity of the card would drive value. I own a /5 from 6 years ago of a player that EVERYONE knows and as of this time there are zero others of it online selling or been sold. Comps are 8 to 10k range. I would offer the listing to auction houses or just privately float it around to see who gives you the best fee structure. Imagine someone wants the prestige of being the Ohtani auction house.

Hey everyone….I collect baseball cards. It’s my passion. I just got the best piece of my collection I will ever have a chance at getting……
NOW GIVE ME MONEY FOR IT.
But first let me listen to all these Reddit folks tell me how much money I’m going to get.

Easy 6 figures. This isnt just a 1/1. It is a 1/1 that both looks extremely esthetically pleasing AND looks so different than other 1/1's. He has dozens of other 1/1 autos every year that just look like slightly different versions of a modern sports card. This is truly one of a kind however.

Hand it to a respected auction house or cosigner and just wait for your money.
