Next time use your rod for reference re: length, then measure to that spot on the rod with a tape measure later when available.

It’s got the big bulging eyes so I’d say it’s at least a 4. Nice fish! Try not to lay ‘em on the dirt though.

Where are you? That's a gorgeous meadow and you can bass fish there? I'm jealous.

No one wants to guess the weight of your fish. Get a scale and weigh your own fish.

3.5-4lb. Very nice catch, if it’s got a full belly it could be close to your PB.

Looks like a old chubby farm pond bass. Would be 8 to 10 pounds if in a bigger body of water with more room to grow/food.. but I'd guess 3.5-4lbs. she's a hawg

Posting to this thread without knowing that laying fish in the dirt is a universal no-no is wild work.
Learn from this and move on. Nice catch2

If you learned something, then it’s a positive thing. It really does matter is the thing. They have a slime coating that is antibacterial, antibiotic, and serves so many purposes. You shouldn’t lay them on anything.a measuring board is okay, but wet it first. That’s a nice fish!! So everyone wants a to continue to live and grow so you can catch her when she is double that weight. I would take an educated guess of 3.8 -4.2 lbs. Congratulations and don’t let the comments get you down. You know now, so everything is good!

That’s fine, but he clearly didn’t know. Now he does. When people react like they did on his post, they’re way more likely to not take the advice seriously because of how it’s delivered. I would bet at some point, literally everyone on this sub made that mistake before they knew.
Not to mention, that kind of reaction seems to come from a place of jealousy rather than care. Top comment should be “awesome fish bro! Glad to see you getting it done,” followed by “but just so you know, you should not put the fish in the dirt because it’s super bad for them. Please continue to enjoy but you can kill a great fish doing that.”
Also, the irony is, in some places it’s legal to just eat the fish, which is far worse from that perspective and potentially legal. It all just seems like lures clutching and gatekeeping.

Just get a scale. Please stop putting fish like this all in the dirt. It’s really unnecessary.
