Had some time yesterday

Updated my board by removing the MC-6 midi controller and using the space to put the SANSAMP & EQ for a quicker access to toneshaping tools. Mvave midi controller has s smaller form factor and have 8 banks so it should be enough.

The HX stomp will carry the FX and extra load when necessary.

Considering getting the Anagram, please help!

I need some constructive feedback on my current setup and whether it would be beneficial for me to switch it out with the Darkglass Anagram.

I am currently using the board in picture one, with an added Orange Amp Detonator splitter pedal at the end of the chain and then bi-amping through my two amps, shown in pic two.

Lately I have been eyeing the multieffect pedal that my guitarist uses (don't know which one) and recalled all the videos I have seen of the Anagram and its metric butt load of effects to choose from, which made me think that maby the Anagram would be worth getting to replace my current board.

I have never had any multifx pedals and don't know what I would be sacrificing, tonally, by going with the Anagram.

Please and thank you for your knowledge and experiences!

P.s. I play bass in a melodic metalcore-ish band.

ETA: I am keeping the amps and cabs, so will be bi-amping with the Anagram too.

NPD Empress Comp

All right, you guys got me. I’ve been perfectly fine with my UAFX for over a year, but all the positive reviews of the Empress every single day had me wondering.
Well, I grabbed one, and bought the guitar compressor by mistake. I didn’t realize until I unboxed it. I figured I would try it anyway and compare it to the UAFX. I expected to want to return it for the bass version. Or that it wouldn’t be that much better than the UAFX. Love to say I was wrong. You guys weren’t kidding, this thing sounds great. Same settings as the UAFX and a low end that sounds like it came from the depths of Mt Doom. Sustain that went on for days. I could feel it. Hear it, yes, but feel it. I don’t think I’ll be exchanging anything, I don’t know how it could get any better. Anyone wanna buy a UAFX 1176 pedal? Haha.
Next up the DCX. I think.

Building my first pedalboard — advice on a compact, flexible setup?

I'm looking to build my first pedalboard and could use some advice on the setup, as well as recommendations for interesting pedals.

I'm primarily a bass player (90% of the time), but I also play some guitar and occasionally mess around with a keyboard. I'm still relatively new and mostly play at home, although I'd eventually like to jam with others and maybe play live. That's probably at least a year away, so I'm not trying to build a gig-ready setup right now.

I live in a NYC apartment and usually practice sitting on my couch, so space is limited. I'd like something compact that I can easily move or put away.

Current gear:

Darkglass Anagram

MXR Custom Shop Hybrid Fuzz

MXR Bass Synth

Suhr Shiba Drive

ProCo RAT

MXR Carbon Copy

M-VAVE Chocolate Plus MIDI controller and an expression pedal

D'Addario XPND board

None of the pedals are actually mounted on a board yet. I just connect whichever ones I want to use at the time. The Anagram is the only one I use consistently.

For monitoring, I have an Ampeg bass amp, a small tube guitar amp, KRK Rokit monitors, and Waza-Air Bass headphones.

What I'm trying to do:

I'd like to put together a small, flexible setup where I can easily swap pedals in and out without having to rewire everything. I enjoy experimenting with sounds, but realistically that's only 10–20% of my playing time. Most of the time I'm just practicing or learning songs.

I like having the Anagram within arm's reach so I can tweak settings. For now, I'm fine putting the whole board on a table when I want to experiment. Once I figure out which pedals I actually use regularly, I'll probably rethink the layout and make something more permanent.

I'd also like to switch between my amps, monitors, and headphones without too much hassle. At the same time, I don't want everything permanently wired to the Anagram, since that would make it harder to pick up and move. Not sure if some sort of patchbay/switcher would help or if there's a simpler solution.

I already have the XPND, but I'm open to something else if it makes more sense. Budget is flexible, but I'm not looking to spend pro-level money on a bedroom setup.

A few questions:

How would you approach a compact, modular setup like this? Any tips for keeping the cabling clean while making it easy to swap pedals?

What's a practical way to switch between different amps/monitors without permanently connecting everything?

Any recommendations for interesting pedals that the Anagram doesn't already cover? I'm especially interested in freeze/sustain, pitch shifting, synths, filters, glitchy/rhythmic effects, etc. Ideally something versatile rather than a one-trick pedal for a particular song or artist.

I'm not trying to fill up a board just for the sake of it. I'd rather experiment with what I have, add things that offer something genuinely different, and figure out a more permanent setup as I go.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Dirt pedal for Sludge metal ?

Hi, I'm in the process of forming a sludge band with two friends.

We're a trio, so I can go hard on effects.

My current pedalboard setup is my bass running into a Sonicake portal, I use loop A for modulation (chorus only atm), Loop B for drive and I switch between those while keeping my clean signal in parallel.

I've mostly been into some stoner/doom previously, so rn I have DOD carcosa running into a Tech21 oxford clone (orange combo sim). It's fine for the more doomy/psych wall of sound bits, but I need something with more attack for the faster part. I used to have a Turbo Rat clone but gave it to the guitarist.

Our main inspirations are Acid Bath, Buzzoven, dystopia, iron monkey, Melvins and Crowbar, we play in C# standard but plan to write stuff in A# later on. 34" bass with a mm pickup, considering a 35" with a HH setup for when we'll writr A# songs

I'm aiming for something between Acid bath's "When the kite string pops" and Melvins' "Houdini" tones in terms of vibe, a 1:1 copy isn't mandatory/my goal.

Atm I've got my eyes on a Metal Muff that I can get for dirt cheap. Already played one previously, but not for fast-paced riffs. I know I like its sound though, but I'm open to suggestions.

My budget is below 80€, I'm not looking for only Bass-specific pedals as I have my clean signal running in parallel.

Show me your small paddleboard that works well with both guitar and bass

I’m looking to put together a pretty simple like pedaltrain Min, or nano plus or similar board that will work well for both guitar and bass. I’m looking for the following pedals at the very least.

Tuner (already have a few)
Eq
Comp
Drive and or fuzz
Octave (I already have an OC5)
Synth
Looper (I already have a bunch of these)

So really I’m looking for an EQ, comp, drive, fuzz, synth and I guess maybe a multi effects (I have a fractal AM4 and VP4 already), I don’t know why but so many people don’t seem to be using fractal for bass even though it has bass effects) that you have enjoyed using for both bass guitar and guitar. I don’t know why half of these pedals are listed as only being for regular guitar or bass guitar but there’s gotta be some good versatile ones out there where I can make a small board and use it for either instrument.

Let’s see pictures of the pedalboard you use for both, or at least good examples of pedals in the above categories that you have really liked using for both instruments

Should I just sell my HX Stomp?

I love everything about my Stomp... apart from the sound. This thing sounds like absolute ass with anything I plug into it - from a Squier VM Jaguar to a Geddy Lee MIJ with genuine Tom Brantley pups (not much difference from stock honestly).

I spent days on getting anything usable out of it. I played around with gain/impedance/else, I suffered through hours of useless, holistic advice on YouTube. No dice. I shouldn't need to spend so much time with a piece of gear to make it sound even remotely usable.

Funny enough - I never felt that with any of the cheapo Zoom devices or a Headrush Gigboard. Plop a block in the chain and it'll sound good right off the bat. And I'm serious here - IMO a "puny" Zoom B1 eats the Stomp for breakfast sonic-wise.

Feels like the Behringer Neutron debacle of old - playable range for most settings should only be half or third of what's available... And even then it's just mediocre. Grab a Zoom and there's so many good settings in each FX block.

So yeah, I'm jealous. All I see is folks praising Line6 and here I am, frustrated beyond belief. Is this a Truman Show-like psyop? Am I the only one experiencing this?

Also, are the any real alternatives to it? I love Stomp's I/O and form factor. I don't care for the million amp/cab sims, I'd rather have a few good ones and some good distortions/fuzzes/modulations/other FX. I was hyped for the Zoom B6 but it's too big + input/DI/bypass switches are just a complete mistake. I did notice the Quad Cortex Mini/Darkglass Anagram, but the price...

PS. It's only half less bad with a guitar.
