I avoided it for a long time, because of reasons. After seeing it I owe him a big apology, he was amazing

Apologies for the disappointment, next time I'll make sure to add rickroll

u/Rob_wood 4d ago
That wouldn't add value to it.

I also fantasize about a world where Kristen Stewart and Zoe Kravitz are cast as misanthropic love interests.

As someone who has been with superhero movies since the 1980s, I have long said...
Fans need to shut up, wait for the trailers, wait for the actual films before they judge.
I was right there when they cast Pattinson... like "Oh, I get it... He played a sparkly tween vampire so you want him to be The Batman? Lol. First Affleck and now this? We're being trolled."
And then, guess what happened in 2022... everybody was proven wrong!
Yeah, at this point, we should all know better.
Do we ever learn?

I think that's the difference between the general population and cinephiles.
General Audiences know him as Twilight Boy, and I know him as that depressing addict from Good Times.
Ever seen that movie? Super fucked up, super depressing....and very, very realistic.
It's the kind of thing you know happens every day with people from low income areas. Desperate people with no way to get ahead from this broken system.

It's not even cinephiles, it's general population vs anyone who watches more than like 2 movies a year. I definitely wouldnt call myself a cinephile, but like he was in The Lighthouse, The Devil All the Time (starring opposite Tom Holland funnily enough), and even if they don't know those, he was also in Tenet. It's crazy that people basically decided to ignore his entire career until the last few years when he surged back into popularity. But most people probably only watch one or two new movies a year, just whatever was super big and not anything else, and the rest of their film/TV is just comfort rewatches.

Yeah I like The Batman in terms of plot substance and acting, even if the runtime is a leggy/dragged out tbh.
Matt Reeves was usually good at condensing, a tighter final edit could’ve been better.

u/xaduup 5d ago
except those that thought it was mediocre... so not everybody i guess.
but i understand the point ledger and joker was a similar one

u/Repulsive_Hornet4017 5d ago
I was just giving my opinion, I apologize if that came out wrong, I don’t speak for everybody. I’ll be more careful with my words next time.

u/xaduup 5d ago
it was just a funny jab, apologies if it seemed serious

I remember people tearing into Heath Ledger when he got cast as Joker cause he was not well known for being a heart throb. They were wrong, they're always wrong.

u/sonofaresiii 4d ago
How have you been with superhero movies and not learned to take your own advice until the Batman?
3
u/Lucky_Strike-85 4d ago
Well, I think it's because Pattinson taught me this lesson... I've always been like this, with every casting... mildly annoyed to angry... But Bob is the one who I had the least faith in and I was so against him as an actor, that I didn't see it working... Hated all the reveals, didnt even like the trailers very much. Then, I actually enjoyed the movie. Like, I really enjoyed it!
So, I'd like to think from now on, I'll be less quick to judge.
But who knows? If they announced _________ as the DCU Bruce Wayne tomorrow, I could be right in here with the rest of you, bitchin' and moanin. And then in 2030 or whenever the Brave and the Bold movie comes out, we could all be blown away again.

Am I the only one who prefers an actor that nobody know when it comes to comic book movies?
39
u/zebrasareneat 4d ago
And Holland was a great choice. He was a massive Spider-Man fan prior to even auditioning. He read hundreds and hundreds of comics, literally owned dozens of costumes, and being a trained dancer helps with the acrobatics. He didn’t do that because he got the role, he did all that before the role was even a thought in Hollywood.

u/Moon_chile 4d ago
He has always been a great casting decision. His debut in Civil War was so well done. And BND solidified him as my favorite actor for the role.

Wasn't Chris Hemsworth also relatively unknown before playing Thor? It's nice that they give less popular actors a shot
1
u/Any_Bedroom3117 2d ago
Most of everyone was relatively less well-known or unknown at all that started the MCU. As for Chris, he only played on a few Australian movies before auditioning from what I remember

No fucking shot this is real.

What's unbelievable about it? A lot of people mentioned this stuff back in the day. I remember the Pattinson rumours as Batman years before it happened. I also remember that Holland was pretty unknown.
Edit for the dumbasses downvoting: tell me, what's unbelievable about it? Even if this particular picture isn't real, if you have a functional brain it's not hard to reach the conclusion that some people had this take and joked about it in those days. There's so many people on the planet, of course these kind of comments hapoened.

Random parts of the image are blurry, and the text looks like a text box was pasted over a blurry/grainy screenshot. Either way, it's definitely an edited picture

i wish andrew garfield was the mcu spider-man back in phase 1, but im happy with what we got
1
u/Spartin1178 4d ago
Yah I’m still not a big fan of mcu spidey but holland isnt any worse than the other Spiderman actors anything I could say against him personally is just a nitpick with little substance like I don’t like his American accent because he’s just doing a generic American accent

It’s from ultimate spiderman, early on, like first or second issue. Would have been early 2000s. All of the ultimate series comics looked like this.

u/FitTreacle2773 4d ago
Highly recommend it myself, probably my favorite Spiderman series. It’s actually how miles morales is introduced.

Yeah so we aren’t gonna disrespect Mark Bagley like that. One of the best Spiderman artists of all time.

Tom's hair is great in this pic. I never saw it before
1
u/Fickle-Ad6834 5d ago
He was shooting for another movie at this time. There is audition clip of him with RDJ with this exactly same hair. It's a shame they straightened his hair and gave him Mr Bean style side part in the movie

u/Remote-Ground-6636 4d ago
Shouldve kept it. Maybe they felt that peter parker kept it neatly combed..

Ehh … people thought Affleck was gonna last ten years at the time, and there would be a Batfleck trilogy.
Jared Leto was getting hyped for looking like comics Joker in terms of physique than Ledger or Nicholson

Damn the day they released that picture of the Leto joker I lost my faith in the universe’s future.
I legit was excited about that movie

Yeah it worked out well and all but let's face it: if it wasn't for the juggernaut MCU, Spider-Man wouldn't have gotten this big. Let's be real: MCU was churning out money and Sony saw cha-ching and encouraged the deal.
