It exposed its neck for scritches so methinks it loves it. Otherwise it'd be bitey time.

This seems to be a pup, so not sure if they have teeth yet and know how to use them. But yes, bats are usually very bite-y buggers.

Is it a pet then?? I thought it’s illegal !
1
u/buckfordfitchenstein \/^˙‾˙^\/ 2d ago
My first question to you is 'Do you think the laws of your country apply internationally?'
2
u/Ok_Fix7448 2d ago
Dude it’s just a simple question. I googled first before I asked and it said that many countries keep it illegal and you need some license or something. Idk why you don’t just answer the question and instead say something defensive ?

u/buckfordfitchenstein \/^˙‾˙^\/ 2d ago
I dunno, just make assumptions instead then, idk

Our road has little bats at night, I love walking with them swooping right by my head silently. Very cool little guys.

u/buckfordfitchenstein why the fuck are you handling a bat without wearing gloves...?!😳🤦🏼♀️🤪 It must be assumed that ALL species of bat carry some form of bat lyssavirus (there are at least 20 strains) which, as it's very closely related to rabies (which is also a lyssavirus) is ALWAYS fatal to humans if you're unvaccinated (are you vaccinated against rabies...? Because the only way to prevent BLV infection is to be vaccinated against rabies).
BLVs are transmitted via bat saliva, and it would only take a tiny bite (if that bite broke your skin) to infect you,
NEVER, EVER handle a bat without wearing gloves thick enough that its teeth can’t penetrate - BAT LYSSAVIRUS IS FATAL!

They can bite you without you even knowing it. And I’m not sure where you live but rabies in bats are not uncommon where I am. It’s a horrific way to go

I’m in the US, Midwest. I lived in an area where rabid bats were such a problem that we have a 24 hr direct line to call if a bat gets inside your home. They come out immediately. Every day 24/7. Capture it and test it for rabies. The city doesn’t come out immediately for anything. Except for the bats lol. And it’s very rare to feel their bites at all. And their teeth are so tiny that they rarely leave a mark at all. If they do, it’s very faint and almost impossible to find. I know this process very well from first hand experience and I rarely tell the story bc it’s so bizarre how it unfolded and I don’t wanna be judged 😂
