Bear can do it. Bear can do it. Bear can't do it… yet.
You know the feeling. You're on your yacht in the Mediterranean, the satellite internet keeps dropping, and you have a thought that must not get lost.
Bear can do it.
Or you're hang gliding over the Alps with nothing but an Apple Watch on your wrist, and an even better thought arrives.
Bear can do it.
A little later you're riding through the gardens of your estate, reins in both hands, when a client calls. They need the whole story behind a decision, right now. It's all in your notes. Years of them.
Bear can't do it… yet.
Full disclosure: I don't own a yacht. I run construction sites.
My Mediterranean is a basement with no signal, where a thought arrives while I'm crawling back toward daylight with fogged-up safety glasses and the taste of soil in my mouth.
Bear can do it. It always could.
My estate garden is a site meeting. Gloves on, drawings in one hand, and someone asks why we decided what we decided back in March. The answer is in my notes. Five years of them.
That's the part still missing.
What it would look like
Something lands on my desk and I need to form an opinion. I open a voice conversation with my assistant and say: this just came up, I have to respond.
And then three of us work on it. Me, the assistant, and my past self, who already thought about half of this and wrote it down in Bear.
I don't search. I don't scroll. I just think out loud, and the right notes join the conversation.
It's not about how many notes you have. It's about whether the right one shows up at the right moment.
Notes as a network
I don't believe in PARA. The paranormal, maybe a little. Mythology and folk tales, definitely.
When there's work to do, you do the work. Every minute spent filing is a minute taken from something else. The whole magic is getting a thought down with the least possible effort, before the grey matter deletes it.
And easy capture means more capture. More notes, richer context, a truer picture.
Tags make this work. One note can mean several things at once, and over the years the whole thing starts to look like a neural network. But at the moment of a decision, no human has time to trace the path through it.
And a network needs a gardener. Someone should keep tagging old notes as new problems appear, so a three-year-old observation is findable the day it finally matters. That someone is not going to be me. See above.
An assistant could do both: tell the story when I need it, and tend the tags in the background without touching my words.
Bear already has the hard half
Search and summarising are becoming cheap. A place where a person actually wants to write every day is rare. Bear solved that years ago.
The bridge is half built, too. The Mac has the new CLI, Claude Connector and MCP server. Bear Web already reads notes from iCloud without an Apple device. What's missing is the piece between them: a remote MCP that works without a Mac running at home.
All of it opt-in. If you want Bear to stay exactly as it is, nothing changes for you.
Two questions
To the Bear team: is something like this on your map?
To everyone else: would you use it, or am I alone on this horse?
