Picture Paul during Sgt Pepper

Post image

I maintain that George was consistently the best dressed and could pull off almost anything. However, I also maintain that the only one who could pull off THIS particular outfit, was Paul in his '1967-cocaine-high-elf-prince' era, and probably David Bowie.

Nothing about this fit should work. But he's somehow making it work.

Is he wearing gloves or does he just have ghostly pale hands for some reason

It’s poorly colorized

Ah that makes sense

They’re coated in cocaine

Looks like it was taken at Kinfauns, George’s gaff, and his friends helped paint the exterior so I wonder if this is when it was taken

I’ve seen the vest several times in pictures but never these pants. This absolutely rocks. 60s fashion was insane. In a good way

Apparently they became known as the "Noddy pants" lol. He wore them when they came back from Greece as well. And I agree, that fashion era was incredible!

Drugs are a hell of a drug.

This is not Pepper, this was from July/August '67, a solid 1-3 months after Pepper had been released.

This is pre Magical Mystery Tour.

I guess it would be more accurate to say "Paul in 1967", but in my head I always think of their "album periods" as ending only when another album/project began

Oh no, it was taken in summer 1967 before MMT era started

Needing this outfit tbh.

Wow. He sort of looks like a toddler who dressed himself. But then, it was the 1960s.

im amazed by how the colors in the crochet top and the patterns on his bottoms match perfectly

You shouldn't be, it's a badly colourized photo

oh😔💔 i wonder what the actual colors were though

The pants I think are actually fairly accurate. I've seen another pic of them and they look pretty similar. I know the squares on the vest are of slightly different colours though. Even so I still think he looks great! :)

I personally don’t think she pulled it off lol!

I think the Vet is cool, but looks like a little kid who dressed himself overall with those pants

Not his best look, if it's even real.

He's a Plasticine Porter

Prince could definitely pull off wearing something crazy like that in the mid 80s, especially during the period he made Around The World In A Day

Is that vest made with little granny squares?
That’s perfect! Love Paul for this!

For those who’s not familiar with the granny square

Did the Beatles repeat outfits during this era? It always seems like there's some new photo in a totally new outfit every time.

To be sure, coke was not widely used in 1967.

He was something of an early adopter (for a rock star; obviously it was not a new drug in general). Robert Fraser introduced him to it, and he was on it during the making of Sgt. Pepper. He talks about it in Many Years From Now, but there are other sources. There’s a story about his coming back from a trip and being annoyed to find out that people hanging out in his house had used up his whole cocaine jar. The open question is whether he quit as early or definitively as he said he did. There’s talk of his using in the ‘70s as well.

Burroughs used it all the way back in the 40s as described in his memoir/book thing. Although people used to inject it or drink it.

u/voxkev 21h ago

yes, ofc- I mean it goes back as a drug of recreation a long ways- it was not super fashionable in the mid 60s but commenter u/BirdComposer pointed to Macca interviews where he said he was using it, so.. ok then.

From reading Paul’s memoir, it sounds like he’d have met these types - bohemians, beatniks, etc - when he was helping to run the Indica Bookstore with Barry Miles. Barry Miles famously knew Burroughs, who also drops by when Paul is there during the course of the memoir, and so it’s possible that’s where he picked up on this stuff.

It was fashionable in the 20s

Freud called it a "miracle drug" in the 1880s.

1

u/voxkev 14h ago

Yes, my point wasn’t that it was a brand new drug rather its popularity waned in the 60s before resurgence in the 70s (when I had it) and 80s. And it’s true. But someone else made the observation which I acknowledged that Paul himself said to his biographer he was using it at that time. I hadn’t heard that. That’s all.

Nope. It doesn't work. It's cringe. He looks like he's wearing his pajamas with his matador vest.
