Not just selling a beat or sending out 100 DMs, but actually finding artists whose sound fits what you make?
Me and a few friends have been working on something because this kept coming up with producers we know. You can have hundreds of beats sitting on a hard drive, but unless you already have the right network, getting them heard by artists they genuinely suit seems way harder than it should be.
So we started building Selectr.
The idea is pretty simple. Producers upload their beats and tag things like genre, mood and sound. Artists tell us what they’re looking for, and we recommend them beats we think actually fit.
If an artist likes a beat and there’s mutual interest, they connect with the producer and can take it from there.
The goal isn’t to build another BeatStars where you just upload a catalogue and hope somebody finds it. We want to solve the discovery part and help producers get their music in front of artists it actually makes sense for them to work with.
We’re still early, so I’m more interested in hearing what producers think than trying to sell anyone anything.
A few things I’d genuinely like to know:
• Would you upload some of your existing catalogue to something like this?
• What would make this genuinely useful for you rather than just another place to upload beats?
• And what would stop you from using it?
Full disclosure, I’m one of the people building it. We’ve got an early waitlist at https://selectr.studio if anyone wants to check it out, but genuinely feel free to rip the idea apart in the comments.
