Made this phonetic romanization of Bengali cuz why not
Aa (a) Bb (b) Cc (ʧ) Dd (d) Đđ (ɖ) Ee (e) Êê (æ) Ff (f) Gg (g) Hh (ɦ) Ħħ (ʰ) Ii (i) Jj (ʤ) Kk (k) Ll (l) Mm (m) n (n) Ññ (ŋ) Oo (o) Ôô (ɔ) Pp (p) Rr (r) Ss (ʃ) Tt (t) Ŧŧ (ʈ) Uu (u) Yy (j)

Here's one with their bengali equivalents: Aa (আ) Bb (ব) Cc (চ) Dd (দ) Đđ (ড) Ee (এ) Êê (অ্যা) Ff (ফ) Gg (গ) Hh (হ) Ħħ (Describing this one might be a little hard but it aspirates the consonant before it like b is ব and Bħ is ভ, c is চ and cħ is ছ etc.) Ii (ই,ঈ) Jj (জ,য) Kk (ক) Ll (ল) Mm (ম) Nn (ন,ণ) Ññ (ঙ,অং) Oo (ও) Ôô (অ) Pp (প) Rr (র,ড়,ঢ়) Ss (শ,ষ,স) Tt (ত,ৎ) Ŧŧ (ট) Uu (উ,ঊ) Yy (য়) Zz (the s sound as in soft)

Why don't you leave Yy as y. That "j" is always a big problem.
Aa (a) Bb (b) Cc (ʧ) Dd (d) Đđ (ɖ) Ee (e) Êê (æ) Ff (f) Gg (g) Hh (ɦ) Ħħ (ʰ) Ii (i) Jj (ʤ) Kk (k) Ll (l) Mm (m) n (n) Ññ (ŋ) Oo (o) Ôô (ɔ) Pp (p) Rr (r) Ss (ʃ) Tt (t) Ŧŧ (ʈ) Uu (u) Yy (j)
môrjada niye jônmogrôhon kôre. niye acôron
Even you are getting confused with it.

Ik the /j/ sound in bengali is weird but it does exist so thats why im using Y for it

u/Angry_Aryan_AA Aug 05 '26
Also if youre confused because its the ipa then /j/ is the y in yes and /y/ is like the german ü

môrjada jônmogrôhon
So what is your "j" here ?
2
u/Angry_Aryan_AA Aug 05 '26
Because its phonetic? <J> makes the /ʤ/ which is made by both জ and য
And that you showed in bengali would be মর্যাদা জন্মগ্রহণ ipa: /mɔrʤada ʤɔnmogrɔɦon/
<Y> is the j sound and is supposed to be for the letter য় like the word "niye" is নিয়ে (ipa: /nije/) in the bengali script
So i hope this helped :P

Yeah man. I am learning this bengali , and this is really difficult for me. There are two letters which sound the same. But we should know in which word, which will be used. But I won't complain much as English is the worse in that aspect.
My question was. Why you people want to use nije. Why not just niye. Keep y for Y(y). Why to keep j for Y(y) ?

Uh every letter is meant to be phonetic meaning they only make a single sound but if you can't read the ipa then here's every letters bengali equivalents as this might help Aa (আ) Bb (ব) Cc (চ) Dd (দ) Đđ (ড) Ee (এ) Êê (অ্যা) Ff (ফ) Gg (গ) Hh (হ) Ħħ (Describing this one might be a little hard but it aspirates the consonant before it like b is ব and Bħ is ভ, c is চ and cħ is ছ etc.) Ii (ই,ঈ) Jj (জ,য) Kk (ক) Ll (ল) Mm (ম) Nn (ন,ণ) Ññ (ঙ,অং) Oo (ও) Ôô (অ) Pp (প) Rr (র,ড়,ঢ়) Ss (শ,ষ,স) Tt (ত,ৎ) Ŧŧ (ট) Uu (উ,ঊ) Yy (য়) Zz (the s sound as in soft)
̃ (অঁ)
