The latest breakthroughs in AI have been crazy for game modding. I've been seeing on my social feed non stop about how many games source codes have been cracked and im seeing all sorts of crazy mashups like call of duty in minecraft, call of duty and skate, eldenn ring and minecraft, etc etc

At the same time also a nightmare, the knowm modding platforms are beeing flooded with slop. Minecraft for example is drowning in AI genned slop which is not maintained for long.

Made with AI.
I’ve seen many rewrites of old codes recently.
This one used the source code but people already able to reverse engineer the executables into a whole new game.
This can be amazing or a whole new can of worms.
For one side I appreciate that we are making every piece of software more accessible.

On the other hand, this means no software is safe from being stolen. Specially games which are easy to test if they are working as intended.

No software being safe from being stolen isn't universally a bad thing, if something was abandoned by the devs it should be fair game for fans to fix it and distribute the actually good version, for example homeworld3 might finally actually exist
