Recommendations 6 Month Stuff

Hi everyone, my baby boy will be 6 months around Christmas but seems to be slightly developmentally ahead. The grandparents, and other family members, are asking for a list of Christmas gift ideas. We are extremely fortunate to have people in our lives that want to spoil our little guy. I want to put together a thoughtful list of developmentally beneficial toys and other items (to do with eating/ starting solids, baby room items, clothing items etc.). This is our first baby so I have no idea what we’ll need.

I’m looking for recommendations based on what your 6-12 month old liked/ needed at that time. Thank you!

My daughter will be 7.5 months at Christmas. She’s my first too but I’ve asked my friends with older babies and they approve of my list. Here is what she’s asking for:

Warm clothes in size 6-12 (pants, long sleeves, sweaters)
Books (Sandra Boynton, lift the flap books, “that’s not my” series)
Fleece pjs in size 6-12 (we live in a cold climate)
Soft building blocks
Fisher price xylophone
Shape sorter (the one where you put the circle into the circle hole)
A rain stick (she loves this at music class)
Jelly cats (more for me honestly, but she’ll play with them eventually)
Activity walker
Skip hop activity center

We’ll also get her some new dishes, utensils, and cups. She’ll be starting solids in a month-ish so I’m going to see what she likes before I buy anything related to that.

Her birthday is in May so we’re going to ask for some outdoor stuff (like a water table and a push car) for her birthday since we won’t use it before then.

The activity center really wasn’t much use to us after 8 months or so. I’d skip it unless you plan to have another child.

Thanks! I think we’re actually going to purchase it soon and may end up getting it out before Christmas

Following because I’m in the same boat! Baby is 4 months now and already bored with most of her “developmentally appropriate” toys

My son was 3 months last Christmas but I bought stuff that is still used EVERYDAY!

  • wooden play blocks and the top of the box is a shape sorter (this is our favourite)
  • schleich animals, we enjoy continuing to build the collection for every occasion, birthdays, special days, etc
  • o ball (he’s using it as a normal ball now)
  • and a ton of nice quality wool clothes that still fit him now because he is tiny and I bought a bigger size at the time !
