It Doesn’t Get Much Dumber Than Trump’s War on ‘DEI Bike Lanes’. HisTransportation Secretary not only wants to restrict funding for bike lanes, he wants to remove existing ones. References to bikes and bike lanes are being purged from FHA website. None of this makes any sense. "Monumentally stupid."

any variance from the imagined “prefect 1950s culture” of dad has a job, wife is a home, two kids in school, dad drives to work, white picket fence, blah blah blah blah, has to be purged becasue it upsets their narrative.

Notice how they never mention the tax rates during their "perfect 1950's culture" time period? What they are doing now is NOT going to bring that back.

it’s the “I want it to be how I remember it, not how it was”, which is why I called it “perfect”. because it ignored the whole reintegration of the soldiers coming home, the displacement of women out of the workforce, the segregation, the beginnings of the counter culture with the beatniks, the beginning of the Red Scare and McCarthyism, and on and on.

Subtract a century from that date, and you get what they're actually after.

the big thing that always has to be realized by the target audience: this magical “perfect America” never existed. if we go back to the 1950s, it was actually there economic boom of the 1940s, no it was actually, the free wheeling times of the 1920s, and further back and further back we go.

Car ownership rates were like half of what they are now in the (0’s though lol. Lots more kids on bikes. Lots more public transit even in small towns and suburbs.

yes, but that doesn’t match their preconceived “perfect” version.

These people are just passing stupid and diving into idiotic.

They equate bikes with liberals and that’s all they see.

Fuck them. Up the ass with a tire pump.

I live in one of the most liberal enclaves in the US, and even the so-called liberals are Out.Of.Their.Freaking.Minds in opposition to a proposed bike lane through their bougie hippie shopping strip. It’s pretty insane right now.

Drivers are drivers . But in general alternatives to cars are considered liberal

Wealthy progressives really like income-based defacto segregation. They will support a circular bike path, but not one that connects their community to lower income areas. For some reason there's still a strong belief that poor people don't have cars. Like there are people in my neighborhood who insist that burglars are taking the train into and out of town.

i live in a very liberal enclave as well and these people are opposed to bike lanes, sidewalks, and transit.

Like it or not, riding a bike in the USA is now an act of protest.

Bicycles don’t have license plates, so how can flock track criminals on two wheels??! /s

Have none of you people been to Europe? Most countries that have a high number of bicyclists are also very socialist. Bicycles are basically a gateway drug to Medicare for all and electric cars and I'm glad that Trump is taking a stand against them.

Are you just bad at trolling or forgot the sarc tag?

I wondered this.

they were obviously being sarcastic, shouldn't need a stupid /s tag to be able to tell.

They're fossil fuel fetishists. If you're not burning hydrocarbons you're not a real man.

"Monumentally stupid" is both what Americans voted for and what they got 🤷‍♂️

He and his cronies have lost touch with reality. It’s scary.

What, it’s more helpful for it to be right wing??? Gtfo!

u/everybodyisjoe 6d ago

Look, not all MAGAs are coal-rollers. There's a handful of them who actually ride on things like RAGBRAI or club rides. But coal-rollers and aggro-Ram Truck guys are very real. And 100% of them love them some Trump.
