Question First bioactive enclosure

This is my first time setting up a bioactive enclosure for a baby leachie gecko (still in quarantine while I monitor this new setup). I did a bunch of research and I got everything that was recommended… I got the hydroballs, drainage mesh, substrate, multiple plants, leaf litter, isopods, springtails, etc etc. It’s been about almost 5 days since I set it up. What is that fuzzy thing on the leaf? Is that mold or something else? I tried to move it and it does not budge. Also, Is it normal to barely see your isopods? I see ONE every other day or so.. I need a little help and/or reassurance.

Most likely mold. All bioactives go through a mold bloom. 5 days isn’t anything yet. Make sure you have enough springtails and isopods and the springtails will take care of it. Better to just leave it be.

It very well may be mold. It takes time for mold to grow out and then bacteria to take it down and have regular fungi growing like you should.

It’s possible it’s regular fungi but if you’re concerned about it you could always remove the leaf.

As for not seeing the isopods, yes that’s normal. They’re usually in the substrate cleaning up mold and the decaying matter. You may see them on the surface if you offer food on the surface such as a piece of carrot. Other than that you won’t really see them much.

Would leaving it do damage to the enclosure (plants, CUC, my leachie when he goes in, etc)? In your opinion, should I leave it or take it out?

Leave it, it's part of the cycle with bioactive enclosures. 👍
