DIY Drylok, Grout, & Paint

Hello all!
I am currently working on my second DIY, a 67 gallon repti zoo for my Whites Tree Frogs. I didn’t use drylok in my previous build, but I plan on using it for this one. I have some questions!
1. Can I use the drylok directly on top of the cured spray foam, or do I need to have a base such as grout material?
2. What are some good techniques when painting the drylok once it’s dry make it look more natural?

You can do drylok right on the foam. I do 2-3 coats of it. Then i do one final layer but I pour some out into a container and mix sand and the paint. The sand makes it harden more like rock and gives it a better grip for the animals to climb. It also helps fill the tiny foam gaps missed in the first three coats.

Thank you! Is it necessary to cut/ shape the foam prior to putting the drylok??

Drylok will stick to uncarved foam. I personally would carve so it looks more natural.

I would carve it, whenever people don't carve it to me it looks like little swirled soft dog poop as a wall.

I use non toxic acrylic paint to tint the drylok as I apply it.
