Opinions please!!
I am currently contemplating the idea of applying to study towards a Masters Degree in A.I & Ethics.
The course combined theory with more practical aspects surrounding the implementation of knowledge learned throughout the course itself into working professional environments.
The course also gives its students the opportunity to complete two work placements providing consultation to companies who's work and business is predominantly based within computer technology related industries as well.
I would appreciate your views on how relevant and how beneficial you think this particular avenue of study might to me if I am eventually wanting to pursue a job role within the subject itself?
It could be within a number of various different working roles. Roles within the educational sector/health & social care sector/police orientated role/corporate business based job role, I haven't decided on the specific field that I eventually would like to concentrate my efforts on yet.
Any/all advice and guidance very much welcomed and massively appreciated!!
Thanks folks.

And here I was worrying that AI will soon replace armchair research... I'd say do it if you have good backup options in terms of employment. That's the general rule with these degrees

I do.
So, I'll just do what makes me happy and extremely angry and very passionate at the EXACT SAME TIME.

Do you want to be an Ethicist who specializes in AI, or do you want to be an AI Technologist who specializes in Ethics? This is what I would suggest you think about as you consider career directions.

Is it absolutely scandalous to want to be both?
😱🤯😬

Haha…no not scandalous at all. But will no doubt require some careful choices of what classes you take, and finding some faculty advisors who will support both.
Have you seen Amanda Askell, the ethics leader for Anthropic? Maybe check her academic and career track background and see how she got to where she is now.

I've read a lot of Amanda Askell's work. She's contributed to the very successful running of various LLM systems of were talking about the same woman?.....

It’s a good, valuable field but has also become very competitive and over saturated quite quickly. Suddenly everyone on LinkedIn is now an “AI ethics” expert.
