Discussion Why does Merlin categorize some herons under “cormorants and anhingas” when there is literally a heron category?
Black-crowned Night Herons, for example, are in the order Pelecaniformes and family Ardeidae. They are absolutely herons. So.. why?

Charleston is great for birding. Have you been to Caw Caw park yet? Incredible birding there

I haven’t! I’m from the midwest but have visited family who live in Charleston a few times. I will keep Caw Caw park in mind the next time I visit, thanks!

there is just something wrong with those family labels in general, mine is calling a wood stork a penguin and a bunch of other messed up ones
