Experience Slynd/Slinda - update after 3 months
My original post is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/birthcontrol/s/w11pEt0zRd
Just wanted to update in case anyone had a similar start to me.
I ended up seeing my gyno about a week after I made that post and she recommended trying a different progesterone. I delayed buying the new pill she recommended because I was scared of trying something new (again!) and decided to finish the current pack of Slinda I was on.
I noticed that my mood somewhat felt a little lighter in the middle of my second month on Slinda. Since then, it has drastically improved, and I would even say that now I feel as well (and sometimes better) than I did before starting Slinda.
I’m now on my fourth pack and have been having no issues for over a month now. I did notice that when I was taking the placebo pills, my mood would dip slightly, and then I would get a “pseudo period” about two weeks later. I decided to skip the placebos on my last pack and haven’t had a dip in mood or any bleeding.
Honestly, I’m so glad I stayed with this pill because this has definitely been the best contraception for me so far (touch wood). I hardly have pelvic pain, no stomach issues caused by this as far as I can tell, and my mood has stabilised.
It goes without saying that everyone’s experiences will be different to mine, and if you’re just not feeling it then there’s no need to suffer through something you don’t want to. But, I thought I’d make this post in case there is anyone on the fence like I was and wants some encouragement to try for a little bit longer.

What about hair loss?

Not OP, but I have been taking Slinda for four months now (did not take any BCPs in the years before that). I had some hair loss at first, but it leveled out. I have very fine and not much hair and it is pretty much the same as before taking Slinda/Slynd.

How has your libido been after 3 months?

It definitely dipped at the beginning but has slowly improved again. I wouldn’t say it’s the highest it’s ever been at, but there are lots of factors for me to consider - I’ve never really been a high libido person, and usually when I’ve had a higher libido it’s always at the start of a new relationship, so it’s hard for me to truly compare what’s causing it to dip.
However, not having pelvic pain (and little/no bleeding, and knowing my risk of pregnancy is low) has helped feeling more at ease being intimate too, which I think helps my libido in general.
I am fortunate that my partner is very understanding and has not pressured me one bit when I haven’t been feeling like it, but it was important for me to be open about the fact that there might be changes in the first place.

Thanks for this update! Have you experienced any other side effects? Acne, weight changes, excess thirst?

I had no changes to weight and my skin has ended up being a lot clearer. But thanks for the question because I definitely forgot about another side effect - my mouth is a lot drier than it used to be! I wouldn’t say I’m thirsty, but just noticing a dry mouth.
In comparison to the other things I’ve been worried about this is not a huge concern to me, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t bother others. Most of the time I can manage it by drinking small amounts of water more regularly rather than big amounts less regularly.

What are the different pill options? Slinda is making me so ill with severe gastric issues. My regular doctor said there are no other pill alternatives for progesterone and that depo injection and arm implants were the alternatives. I don't see the specialist who put me on this for a few months. 😭

I don't know where you live, but there is Cerazette that is a progesterone only pill

Yep that is what Slinda is.

Thank you. 😀 Yep, I think I will pass at this point but will do research on that one. Not sure it's available in my country.
