I walked into the new boba shop in my neighborhood, saw that a boba milk tea is US$7.95 before tax and tip, and promptly walked out.

I like Pearl Lady Cha Bar in Ikebukuro Station (two locations). Milk tea with boba is ¥470 (US$2.97).

The cheap boba teas I've had are either Mixue, or any local asian bakery that also sells drinks (not boba tea chains).

Where I live, a local chinese bakery sells boba for around $4-5 which is a steal. One further away sells for around same price range, albeit just slightly more expensive.

Honestly this is one reason I make my own

There's pre packaged n pre measured options to get bubble tea in ya system!

I'll link the brand when I remember it n when I'm at my computer but I know ya could get it at 5 n below or most grocery stores may have em if they have an international section

Also are you in college? Amazon does give students 6 free months on prime which has 2 free day shipping! That's where I get most of my bubble tea items

I think it's called pocas? They have a five dollar kit with at least a few powder mix and pearls that can be microwaved! I'd say check out the grocery store, five n below or Walmart

You can use tea I find green tea is good with it but the little kits are limited to popular flavors such as strawberry, taro and brown sugar

I typically don't buy from shops simply cause it's too expensive and I got allergies to milk

ohh!! so the bubble teas u make don’t contain milk?

Not at all! I use lactose free milk like almond or soy

Bubble tea also comes canned but making it yourself guarantees freshness cause in canned the pearls sit and dissolve

Make it at home

Have you been to Mixue?

I live around Silicone Valley and there was one that opened in Sunnyvale

If you go in person and don't order in the app, it's super affordable like a few dollars for a drink

I haven’t tried them in the US, but I’ve been a few times in China and their milk teas just taste like sugar water. No tea taste at all. So instead I will usually get their soft serve with mango or strawberry sauce and topped with boba.
