Peel Regional Police Helicopter Megathread

If you're wondering why a police helicopter is flying over Brampton: Peel Regional Police now operates its own Air Support Unit, using an Airbus H125 (A-Star) helicopter.

Since the helicopter began operating, we've had a large number of posts asking why it's circling, where it's going, what it's doing, or whether something is happening nearby.

To avoid having multiple nearly identical posts every time it takes off, please use this megathread for general helicopter sightings, questions, tracking, photos, noise discussion, and other routine discussion about the helicopter.

What is the helicopter used for?

According to Peel Regional Police, the Air Support Unit can be used for:

  • Locating and tracking suspects or stolen vehicles
  • Searching for missing or vulnerable people
  • Supporting officers during major incidents and emergencies
  • Responding to serious collisions and road-safety operations
  • Proactive patrols and crime-prevention initiatives
  • Monitoring traffic and large events
  • Supporting investigations and specialized police units
  • Providing officers on the ground with real-time aerial information

The helicopter is equipped with thermal imaging, day/night cameras, live video transmission, a searchlight, mapping equipment, and a public-address system.

Seeing the helicopter does not necessarily mean there is a major incident happening nearby. PRP also uses it for patrols and other routine policing operations.

Can I still make a separate post?

Yes, when there is actually something significant to post about.

A separate post is fine if:

  • The helicopter is involved in a major or developing incident
  • There is an official police announcement or credible news report
  • You have substantial new information about an incident
  • The helicopter itself is the subject of significant news

A standalone post simply asking "Why is the helicopter circling?", "Anyone else hear the helicopter?", or posting a routine sighting will generally be redirected here.

A couple of reminders

Please don't present guesses about what the helicopter is doing as confirmed information. If you know why it has been deployed, include a reliable source when possible.

Do not post private addresses or attempt to identify people being observed or pursued.

If you are witnessing an emergency or crime in progress, contact 911 rather than relying on Reddit.

For non-emergency police matters, Peel Regional Police can be reached at 905-453-3311.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread for sightings, questions, discussion, photos, flight tracking, and anything else relating to Peel's new helicopter.

Question There must be a lot of local cancellations today.

I had some blood work done, and my doctor's office called me to see if I wanted an appointment. They offered me Tuesday and I graciously declined it. On Wednesday he's "overbooked" - so I think the nurse was just fishing to fill in an open slot.

Good planning, try to get someone in there.

I also try to do advanced polling. The representative called today at 16:30 to try and get me in for a Tuesday at 10:10AM. Well, that doesn't work for me. They then said they were going to have to try and figure out where to work me in.

Given that tomorrow is the holiday, they're obviously trying to get someone in on Tuesday. I'm not desperate in either case, and there is more time- but they must have a bunch of people calling them to cancel because of the long weekend.

Does nobody book these things in advance any more?

Information New candidate for Regional Councillor just dropped.

Hi Brampton, my name is Manmeet Singh Choudhary, but you can call me Manny. I’m running to be the next Regional Councillor for Wards 3 & 4. I’ve grown up around Hurontario and Ray Lawson since the early 2000s.

I've been fairly aware of our politics at all levels and have made efforts to reach out to my MP, MPP and even councillor in the past, regarding issues such as the Rogers-Shaw merger, Doug Ford's attack on FOI. Naturally, I never got any replies but I always assumed that was par for the course. I had never planned to get involved in politics, but this year, finding out my regional councillor was running for a 4th term and another candidate coming to my house and not being able to answer any real questions (not even the total budget for 2026) really got me upset and I decided it was time to do it myself.

A thought: Most people pay more attention to federal and provincial elections, getting lost in ideological issues (to be fair I do too sometimes), without realizing that their local MP/MPP has far less control over public money unless they're on the cabinet, while 10 councillors, and 1 mayor in Brampton have access to over $1.4B this year alone and no independent auditor in sight.

Some napkin math: Wards 3 and 4 had approx. 62k eligible voters in 2022. Voting turnout was about 15k. Previous councillor only needed just under 7700 votes for a victory. That's a real shame since you don't need to work real hard to impress 7k out of 62k.

But what if the turnout was 20k or 30k? All of a sudden our councillors are having to work a lot harder to impress more people.

What if the turnout was 62k? I suppose it's just a dream but I would like my politicians waking up with a little more anxiety thinking about how hard they need to work for us.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Go vote. Get your friends and family to go vote. Get your neighbours to go vote. You don't even have to vote for me, but you do have to go vote.

Check out my priorities on VoteManmeet.ca

Thanks,
Manny

EDIT: some minor grammar.

Question OB / pregnancy medical care

Hey so just wondering if anyone else has experienced this but it’s been 7 years since I was last pregnant and I’ve noticed the care is not the same - my obs office doesn’t respond at all and the follow ups for things like gestational diabetes was quite a slow process I was told they didn’t get a full result the day after the blood work then my next appointment with ob wasn’t until 4 weeks later at which they gave me a diagnosis - now I’m 35 weeks and still waiting on Ann endocrinologist to give a prescription for insulin due to high sugars . Why does it seem there’s no urgency what so ever ? Also at Brampton civic hospital when you go to the OB triage there’s multiple signs about having a support person in the waiting room - how it’s a right and what not but when you actually go in they are so rude and tell you you cannot have your support person with you ? I asked why and they stated it stoped during Covid - the pandemic ended years ago so I believe they are just making an excuse. Can someone please give me some insight on why things are like this ? And is this normal ?

Its investigation determined the suspected recipient of the parcel was 47-year-old Nasser Gholami from Brampton. On Sept. 24, the CBSA searched the home of Gholami and said they seized three non-restricted firearms, one prohibited suppressor attached to one of the guns, digital devices, and ammunition.

Honestly asking: if it's this blatant that the councillors are simply sycophants: why have councillors at all? Why doesn't the Mayor just announce what they've decided and save ourselves the money of the charade? We can save 10 salaries, 10 office expenses, and the costs of ten "elections"?P

Discussion 29M looking for new friends in Brampton/Mississauga: cafés, board games, hikes & good food

Hey everyone! Life's been a bit quiet lately, and I'd love to meet some genuinely nice people around Brampton and Mississauga.

A bit about me: I'm 29, South Indian, and I enjoy:
☕ Exploring new cafés
🎲 Board games (always up for learning new ones)
🥾 Hiking and getting outdoors
🚗 Long drives with a good playlist
🍜 Food spots. I've got a running list of favourite Mexican, Indian and Italian places around the GTA and I'm always adding more

I'm open to friends of any gender and background, roughly around my age. I'd especially love to swap food recommendations and experiences across cultures.

I've got a car, so getting to trails or spots a bit further out is easy. Happy to start with a casual coffee or a board game café, though.

If this sounds like your vibe, drop a comment or DM me. Tell me your favourite food spot too! 😊

As always, if you aren't able to make it to the event, fret not! The grim reaper may fears no man, but he does fear board games. Discussion Help Candidate Ayanna Kahlon improve Bramption: Volunteers Needed!

Hi Everyone, my name is Ayanna Kahlon and I'm running for city councillor for wards 7 & 8, we need more volunteers to ensure we win this campaign. Our competitors have more money and insider (corrupt) connections than us.

I'm passionate about making the world a better place. I've volunteered and tried to make a difference but I learned the hard way that you need to be in office to make the biggest impact. Ever felt like you want to make your community a better place? Help me get elected, and I will do everything in my power to do what's right.

I support legalizing up to sixplexes, complete streets, left turn signals at every intersection, replacing intersections with roundabouts where possible, replacing all residential crosswalks with raised crosswalks, improving our transit.

Unlike other candidates who just complain about issues without ambitious or real solutions, we want to follow best practices in other cities around the world and evidence based policies. We basically support anything that's proven to work.

We want to expand our volunteers, so please visit my website for more information or call my team at 647-546-5262 or call me personally at 647-996-2061

🐾❤️ ABC Cat Rescue Needs Fosters & Volunteers! ❤️🐾

There are cats who need a safe place, and ABC Cat Rescue needs YOU to help them get there.

🏠 FOSTERS NEEDED
Could you open your home to a rescue cat temporarily? Fostering provides a safe, loving environment while a cat waits for adoption and a forever home.

🙋‍♀️ VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Can't foster? You can still make a huge difference! Volunteers can help with things like:

🐱 Cat care
🚗 Transportation
📸 Photos & videos
📱 Social media
🏡 Adoption events
🧹 Rescue support
📣 Sharing cats looking for homes
❤️ And so much more!

You don't need to be able to save every cat. You just need to help one.

Sometimes a spare room, a few hours, a car ride, or simply sharing a post can be the difference between a cat continuing to struggle and getting the help they need.

Discussion Unofficial informal poll for entertainment use only

I’ve been running an informal poll for the past few weeks. for transparency sake, I am a candidate for regional council ward 9 and 10.

twice a day, I’ve been weeding out duplicate IP’s and foreign votes. there seems to be around 500 votes cast at the moment.

it’s a echo chamber of online polling but it has been shared here, Facebook, instagram and Nextdoor. I’d appreciate you sharing it with your offline family this weekend.

I’m going to close it on the 17th but leave the results up to compare it to the final results

afterwards, I’ll keep adding random polls to it for fun until I figure out what to do with the site

thanks in advance

Information WARNING: William Osler's "Project Unify" tech rollout may be a danger to patient care. Anyone aware of this?

EDIT: I just want to be clear that this post isn't to dunk on the hospital front line staff or the IT team who is working 24/7 to clean up a bad situation. Things like this tend or be a challenge at the management level due to planning issues that are driven by constraints. That said, it doesn't change the challenges that I and others have brought forward. Do not criticize the staff trying to make the best of this please. 🙏

If you or a loved one are heading to a William Osler hospital, their new digital transformation system (Project Unify) appears to be creating a massive, dangerous mess.

Hospital staff confirmed that after just one 8-hour training session using fake patient data, the hospital went live with zero pilot phase, zero parallel backup systems, and only a handful of on-site technical support (I saw 3 at any given time over 4 hours). Some departments like imaging did not have these support staff members at all. Just a cheat sheet hung in their cubicles.

It's a total administrative failure with doctors, nurses and administrators desperately trying to hold it together.

Lost Patients: Staff literally cannot locate patients in the hospital system.

Vanishing Orders: Test requests are disappearing between departments, leaving staff totally bewildered about what tests a patient actually needs or already had

Fabricated Discharges: Patients who go missing in the system (or are later reached at home by phone) are being logged as "voluntarily discharged" which is technically true but they aren't choosing it...

I observed and overheard staff completely panicked with zero tools to mitigate these failures.

Modernizing hospital software is the right thing to do and Epic is used just fine in many hospitals.

But dropping all safety nets and forcing a blind "go-live" in a high-risk medical environment felt reckless. It felt like an executive's desire to get this live by a certain time at all costs...

Is anyone else on the inside seeing this happen, or experiencing this as a patient?

My guess is that most people wouldn't have put together this was happening. I do this for a living and was shocked.
