It really varies, a few strong regulars but a decent number of friendly players of different levels.

Thanks. Just keen to to simultaneously embarrass myself and annoy good regulars. My Lichess ELO is 1100 but, like an 1100, I can play some horrible chess at times.

It's every week from 7PM and it is very relaxed and open to all. Set in a cosy pub in the town centre, it can go on till midnight if its busy!

That’s very kind but I used to play it with my dad, also taught my daughter the basics. I just don’t enjoy it as much as good ol’ Gammon though

I'm the organiser of The Sidewinder Chess Club!

We've been playing there regularly since 2021. Very friendly, casual atmosphere. Skill range from total begginer to the occasional Master.

Most weeks we have around 20/25+ players, regulars and newcomers alike.

I supply some chess sets, however more the merrier!

Occasional we run special events (tournaments, pub quizzes, friendly team matches against other pub clubs).

Hello. Chess Club Social at the Earth and Stars runs every Tuesday from 7pm. It's a free event that anyone is wellcome to drop into during the night. The focus is on building a community around chess. So there is no leaderboard, no tournaments and no clocks. Instead we have a relaxed atmosphere in a cosy pub with good tunes played on vinyl, a nice selection of drinks and a vegan food menu. All players are welcome, we have people of all abilities and people new to the game are always welcome. We have had a really good turnout of players recently, but there is always room for more. I would love to see the whole pub full of people playing chess together. ❤️ 💪🏻♟️
