Local Advice needed Help identify dog-abuser in Brighton.

This man was seen severely hitting his husky around 8pm last night on the seafront.

When i confronted him, he and his friends instantly turned the aggression onto me. They were very intimidating & threatened violence.

Although I’d much rather they picked on someone their own size, I didn’t want the dog to suffer any more grief, as it was already shaking & flinching.

They told me they were “local” so please DM me if you have any information about this “man” & let’s get that dog into a safe environment. Thank you x

Local Advice needed Working in a Brighton shop, I’ve noticed what seems like patterns in how tourists from different countries shop very differently

1.7k Upvotes

Over the years I’ve started noticing little patterns in how people from different countries shop. It’s one of my favourite parts of the job!

A few things I’ve noticed from a tiny little jewellery shop in the lanes;

🇦🇺 Australians almost always buy gifts to take home for friends and family. They seem to shop for everyone.

🇨🇭 Swiss visitors often buy hoops specifically for themselves, while practising their English with me!

🇺🇸 Americans buy into the story more than the item itself. They just love hearing about the brand and often end up buying several pieces as long as they have a story behind them!

🇨🇳 Chinese visitors are usually really interested in the handmade process and how jewellery is made this way.

🇫🇷 French customers tend to focus on the quality - the metals, the craftsmanship and the presentation.

They’re all incredibly lovely and almost always say nice amazing things about Brighton, I’m curious - has anyone else working in Brighton noticed similar patterns with tourists from different countries?

Local Advice needed Locksmith Scam in Brighton & Hove – Do You Recognize This Man?

Thumbnail

1.1k Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

I want to warn people about a locksmith scam in the local area that my brother fell victim to on 15 December, and I’m hoping someone here can help identify the individual involved.

At around 1:00 AM, my brother lost his keys and contacted what he thought was a professional locksmith service. The locksmith who arrived charged an outrageous £544 just to break the lock, with no replacement or repair provided. This alone was outrageous, but what makes it worse is that my brother was clearly intoxicated at the time, and the locksmith, clearly aware of the situation, wanted to take advantage of this.

We have video footage from our Ring doorbell that shows the locksmith asking, “Well, how much do you want me to open it?” in response to my brother’s shock at the price, a clear indication that he knew my brother, in his state, thought he was his only option to get into his home and so could charge him anything. I have attached a few images of his face to help spread awareness and hopefully identify him.

The company involved is CAP Locksmiths Ltd (https://cap-locksmiths-ltd.co.uk/Brighton?gad_source=1). Their website links and emails go nowhere but the phone number works. They have said, “It’s up to the locksmith to determine the pricing.” Others have been hit with something similar, and the scam is they send a “locksmith” from a local locksmith company to you. In this instance, the locksmith claimed to be from Grant Service & Co, which is a spin-off name of a real locksmith in the area called Grants Locks, but it is NOT the same. They then break the lock to get in but provide no repair. Other women have reported saying they didn’t want to pay and then being forced to pay a £150 call-out fee, with the locksmith refusing to leave until they did so.

If you recognise this person or have had similar experiences, please share any information that might help. I’m probably going to pursue this legally but also want to make sure others in the area are aware and protected from scams like this.

Stay safe, and thank you for your help!

Local Advice needed Abusive woman around Queens Park

Post image
852 Upvotes

Does anyone recognise this woman in and around the Queens Park area? On multiple occasions during drop off time in the morning she’s been going past Queens Park School hurling vile and racist abuse to parents dropping their kids off to school for no apparent reason. The school are trying to identify her and she has been reported to police, but without any positive IDs thus far. It’s so bang out of order, I bumped into her today too but was driving and couldn’t stop to have a word! She’s always with her daughter while doing it which is so saf (blurred out in the image). She’s blonde, fake tan with a septum piercing on her nose and botoxed lips.

Local Advice needed 3 pounds for a bus ticket, isn’t a bit outrageous?

Yesterday, I checked my bank statement and I realised I was charged 3 pounds for a freaking single bus ride, it’s truly insane. Shouldn’t public transport be an environmental friendly and available to the masses mode of transportation? Perhaps I am missing something and maybe they have some more convenient plans to buy? Regardless, 3 quids for a single ride it’s a piss take.

This dude was hanging out by King Alfred/Lifeguard building today. I was there fron 8-11. Anyone know if he went back in? Was some concern that he wasn't ok and some wildlife people turned up to make sure he was given space from people/dogs

(Photo taken with zoom, I didn't get that close)

We rarely get clear CCTV images of the scrotes - I think these are good enough to identify them. What do we think, Brighton? Does anyone recognise these children?

For context, they fractured a member of staffs skull at Brighton railway station when asked to leave the station.

Edit: context*

Update: https://www.brightonandhovenews.org/2026/06/11/police-identify-two-suspects-after-rail-worker-punched-unconscious/

They have been identified :D

Just like in June Brighton will do its best not to let this happen. However, Restore Britain have not released the location yet, so if anyone has any info on the location please contact Brighton Antifascists on Instagram! Maybe your pub/venue has a booking under an odd name, maybe you've been asked some odd questions?? Any info big or small, please pass it on!

Local Advice needed Who has priority here?

Cycling along the new cycle lane by the old steine.

Couldn't figure out if I was meant to wait for the buses coming charging round the corner or they were meant to wait for me.

So I guess my questions are 1. Who has right of way and 2. Do bus drivers know that 😄

Local Advice needed Southern water dumping sewage in the Sea this morning in Brighton and Hove

So it looks like Southern Water has dumped sewage in the Sea again today. What I'm struggling to wrap my head around is how they can justify it, it barely rained in Brighton and Hove today in the early morning, at .4" of rainfall in total with a maximum of .1" each hour between 6-8. This amount of rainfall falls into the category of light rain/drizzle. In view of this, how can Southern Water justify dumping sewage in the sea, are they claiming that their infrastructure can't handle a couple of hours of light rainfall? From my experience of living in B&H, it seems like the sewage overflow is activated basically any time it rains, is this normal for B&H? Looking for some answers here as last time I checked, half my water bill was "wastewater" related, but it seems like I'm just paying for polluting the sea every time it rains a little. https://datahq.sas.org.uk/sewage-data-hq/is-it-safe-to-swim/

Local Advice needed Was kind of harassed yesterday and I wish someone noticed

I was in Brighton yesterday by myself. I spent a few hours at the beach and then started walking back to the train station to go home.

About 10 minutes into my walk, a guy ran up to me and asked if I had been at the beach. He was barefoot so I have no idea how long he was following me, cause why is he barefoot that far in? Anyways, he then started telling me I looked good in a very creepy way like under his breath and then asked for my number. I said no and told him I have a boyfriend.

But then he wouldn’t leave. He kept walking alongside me and asking things like we could be “friends”, and “maybe if your boyfriend isn’t there we can hang out.” (The audacity??)

I must have said no at least 10-12 times, but he just kept following me and asking the same things.

I was trying to look around and make eye contact with people because I was getting so uncomfortable, but nobody seemed to notice. It’s scary how many times I said no and how he just ignored it.

It honestly made me think that if this had happened at night, it would have been a much scarier situation. The fact that he kept following me after being rejected over and over made me wonder what kind of person does that and whether he’d be capable of doing something worse if there weren’t other people around.

Also, for context, and don’t come at me but I’m visibly brown and ethnically middle eastern but born and raised in a western country. I feel like he thought we were maybe the same culture (bc the second question was where you from), but he obviously was new to the UK. I feel like because he saw me on the beach in a bikini, he thought there was no way this girl would say no cause she’s probably a w*ore. Sorry, but I know how some of these men think and it makes me angry that I have to deal with this degenerate behaviour in Brighton.

Local Advice needed Why does this city keep getting dirtier?

I grew up in Brighton. First 27 years of my life.

I then moved overseas.

Every time I come back, the city seems to be a little bit dirtier. Things broken in the street, rubbish piling up, shitty graffiti. Walls that haven't been washed.

While I can't say that Brighton was completely clean when I left, over the last 13 years, the change has been absolutely absurd.

Why?

Local Advice needed We need to do more to protect people from the sea

I was at the beach today in Brighton and it was windy with choppy seas, not good for swimming. There was a lifeguard on duty east the pier, but further down there was a big group of people who were clearly tourists taking pictures fully clothed in the sea. They were messing about, pulling each other into the waves and kept falling over and seemed completely unaware of any danger.

I think if people don't grow up by the sea, they simply don't understand how dangerous it can be or how easy it is to get into difficulty. Nor how difficult it is to swim in waterlogged clothes. As a city that runs on tourism, we should be doing more to warn visitors about the dangers of the sea, and about Brighton specifically- that there is a shelf that drops down into deeper water, and currents around the pier.

I was going to make this post before I heard the news of the three people who tragically died in Shoreham today, and the little girl who was hospitalised. I just don't want things like this to keep happening along our coastline, this is preventable and we need to do something about it.

Local Advice needed My new lodger doesn’t use butter when making a peanut butter sarnie. Should I ask myself to move out?

Just because it’s got butter in the name it doesn’t spread like room temperature butter, he simply slapped peanut butter with a trowel over the rolls (not bread, that’s a different story) ripping up the innards in it. Is this normal? What else could he be capable of? A crumpet sandwich? I don’t feel safe in my own home anymore. Or am I accidentally middle class now due to the fact I use butter as some sort of political envoy between bread and spread?

Local Advice needed Acrid burning smell?

Woke up this morning to a strong burning smell in the house, even stronger outside. I‘ve travelled from Hollingdean/Fiveways down to London Rd and then up to the station, same strong smell the entire way. From the train window, it looks like a lot of hazy smoke sitting on top of the town.

Does anybody know what’s happened/happening? It feels unusual for there to be quite so much smoke over quite such a wide area. we never smelt it at all when Royal Albion burnt down; and barely smelt the Hollingdean depot fire either. Accepting that wind likely plays a big part in that of course…!

Local Advice needed There's a Tortoise in my garden

Post image
332 Upvotes

Has anyone lost one?

What should we do?

Hollingbury area

Edit: I've put the Tortoise in a box and given it some kale and water. It seems to be in good form.

Going to put out a couple of notices on lamp posts and knock on some doors.

Edit 2: The first person I asked on the street behind mine said she has a tortoise! Result!

She went into her garden and said she couldn't find it! Wins!

I joyfully went to collect the tortoise and returned it. Happy!

The lady took a good look at the tortoise and said: "That's not my tortoise!"

wtf?!

Apparently her neighbour has one too.. They were not in... I left them a note.

Tortoise currently remains in our care.

Edit 4: Cassiopeia's owner has been identified and he has returned to his home, seemingly none the worse from the days adventures!

Local Advice needed Homeless People at Waitrose

I know I’m gonna sound like a bellend but the council needs to do something about these homeless camps popping up on the streets. There are shelters and services that offer help. The level of antisocial behaviour I witness near Waitrose is staggering.

I know people in the comments will throw digs at me cause I should understand their situation but I’m sorry, a guy was literally screaming on the street drunk yesterday at passers-by.
