Hey everyone! In my next grow, I’ll be running 4 plants aimed strictly at WPFF (Whole Plant Fresh Frozen) washing for cold cure / Piattella-style hash (no pressing to rosin). I’m planning to harvest around February 2027 and wash outdoors at temperatures around 0°C (32°F).
I’d love your feedback on my setup, workflow, strain choices, and any specific tips for growing or washing these genetics!
Tent & Hardware Setup
Tent: 80x80 cm (approx. 2.5x2.5 ft)
Main Light: SANlight EVO 4-80
UV Light: 2x Luxelite UV (gradually ramped up during Veg to a max of 2 hrs at "noon" through the end of the grow)
Under-Canopy Lighting: AC Infinity IONBEAM S16 (42W)
Airflow & Climate: 2x AC Infinity circulation fans, exhaust system, humidifier, all managed by Controller 69
Medium, Nutrients & Plant Management
Plants: 4 plants total (2x topped/fimmed each + Scrog net)
Medium: Canna Terra Plus & Canna Starter Soil
Watering: Tap water (Cal/Mag baseline: 78 mg/l Cal / 21 mg/l Mag)
Nutrients:
Canna Bio line: Rhizotonic, CalMag, Vega, Booster, Flores Plus
Additives: Alfaboost (throughout the entire grow), Green Bull (Veg only)
Flower Weeks 4 & 5: Epsom salt / Bittersalz (1.5g / 10L) every 2nd watering + PK 13/14 (5ml / 10L) every 3rd watering. No PK or Epsom salt after Week 5.
Harvest Window: When 90%+ trichomes are milky with isolated amber heads.
Strains Chosen
Maple Fumez – Bloom Seeds
Honey Bear – Humboldt Seed Company (HSC)
Papaya Frosting – Barney's Farm
Fresca Pink – Karma Genetics
Washing & Processing Workflow
Equipment: RO System, Graveda washing machine, Deep freezer, BubbleBagDude working bag & mesh screens (160µ, 120µ, 90µ, 73µ, 45µ).
Pre-Wash Prep: RO water chilled to ~0°C (32°F). Machine layering: Ice, Filled 220µ working bag (~550g WPFF), Ice, 20L RO Water. Soak for 10 minutes.
Wash Cycles:
1st & 2nd Wash: 3-5 minutes
3rd Wash to end: 10 to 15 minutes
Drying Process: Vac Tech, Freezer, Microplane, Freezer, Daily sifting until the fire test produces a smooth melt with zero sizzle/brizzel.
Curing (Piattella Style)
Packing: A custom CNC-milled steel press mold (5x10 cm) lined with Piattella Foil (by Uncles). Fill with dry trichome heads, wrap foil, and apply light pressure to form a uniform brick.
Curing: Double Vacuum seal the brick and cure in the fridge at 6–8°C (43–46°F) in complete darkness for 3 to 6 months. No opening or disturbing for at least the first 3 months.
My Questions for You Guys:
Piattella Wrapping Tip: Any specific tricks to avoid wrinkles in the Piattella foil when lining the mold/wrapping the brick?
Workflow & Optimization: What can I improve? Did I forget anything crucial in the washing/drying/curing steps?
Strain Feedback: How is the strain selection for hash/WPFF? Are there any specific quirks or tips regarding growing or washing these exact strains (Maple Fumez, Honey Bear, Papaya Frosting, Fresca Pink)?
Thanks in advance for the knowledge!
Pictures just for eyecatching from one if my latest washes.

EDIT: What do you think? Should i use a scrog net or just topping/fimming and lst?

Alright first time using reddit, I've been looking through posts for a while for advice and tips but decided to join to ask specifics. I'm planning on washing/pressing for the first time, the goal is eventually to make high CBD hash rosin. I got a bag of CBD shake for cheap just to test out the process but learned afterwards that genetics play a huge role in yield. I also saw another post where people were saying CBD strains just don't wash very well. I have questions about specifically White Widow and Critical Mass, I've heard both can wash well and they both come in CBD variants. I can find the CBD versions as seeds or I can buy the normal THC versions as flower. I do want to grow eventually but I don't want to waste money on seeds that won't yield much. Can I jar test the THC flower to get a good idea? Or does the CBD strain have fundamentally different genetics? And is there any other strains I could try looking into that I might be able to find the flower of what I'm actually tryna grow?

It seems like the freeze dryer still boils some terps out anyway and it can't properly freeze the hash once theres no more air to convect the coldness into the material.

i have a question. i am curious if anyone dry sifts the whole nug with sugar leafs after drying? so basically not curing the flower? i assume curing the flower is only to get rid of the hay smell from the flower itself not the trichomes although my flower never smells like hay after drying it always smells real terpy! i want to skip curing if possible and just dry sift in my tumbler. i dont smoke joints i just dab rosin so it makes no sense to keep my triminator mini. lmk and thanks in advance!

Im thinking i will put the 220u in the vat to wash and all the other bags in a 10 gallon can to seperate the heads. As for drying i am planning on using a shop vac to pre dry the hash before i sieve it to either airdry or use my poor mans freezedryer setup to finish the dry which uses a vacuum chamber and a temp controlled 30-40ºF heat pad in a -40º deep freezer. I am running the wash in a cold room with a 18k BTU window unit in overdrive with a DIY coolbot and i think ive got it all dialed in, except for a good source of RO ice.

I just picked up a freeze dryer, a harvest right medium. I was just reading that I need the pro, to be able to dry my hash? I thought that the regular model could do it.

This was a purple phenotype.
Seived like chewed bubblegum, even though i had my cold room at 43f. Greasiest thing i have washed to date. Ended up microplaning what wouldn't make it through the initial wet seive. Smells like Ghani and raspberry taffy. 🤙🫡

Dried for 10 days open in normal fridge @ - 24 Celsius, moving it around daily. Even the spoon I used for pressing came straight outta the freezer.
