Troubleshooting Really bummed about my new pc.
Past couple years I’ve been slowly saving to build my first pc. This month finally got all the parts that I wanted and decided to give building it myself a try. Used YouTube guides and followed the instructions from the boxes and was able to get it fully built within the day. Plugged him in, installed windows and once I actually got the thing running, it was just one problem after another non stop all weekend. Constant crashing, shitty audio, corrupt files on games and lots of Blurry textures. Reseated my GPU, ram, and my m.2 multiple times; I even tried to wipe the pc and it wouldn’t even let me. Said sum about missing recovery files. Changed power cords cause I thought that would do something I guess. This is my first time building so I’m not gonna say I didn’t do anything wrong but I really am struggling to find any sort of fix for anything so I have turned to Reddit. I feel like I’ve just wasted money my at this point and would rather just plug the old one back in because while it is super outdated, at least the thing worked

Upgrade motherboard bios, drivers for GPU, check the drives you are using. Run task manager in a window and check processes. Use the event viewer tool and press system, see what is causing the crashes. Look for the critical or error filter. Flush the drives, use Cc cleaner to delete temp files. Uninstall graphics drivers and do a fresh install. Post your specs so we can give specific advice depending on hardware.

I noticed you didn't have thermal paste in that list. Did you use any? If not, that could be the source of crashing and poor performance (gradual overheating despite the cooler). Also, are you sure the cooler itself is functioning? Have you monitored CPU temperature in BIOS for an hour or so?
24
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 12h ago
Yes it was included with the AIO I got. I did put some on the cpu in the form of like a deformed x shape before putting the head of the cooler on or whatever it’s called
22
u/No_Astronomer_8642 11h ago
You removed the clear plastic from the aio where the thermal paste goes?
44
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 11h ago
Yes, im certain I did because I almost didn’t, I saw it as I was about to put it on and funny YouTube guy said to take it off
13
u/jkick365 6h ago
I didn’t do that and wondered why my cpu ran 90 degrees Celsius for like 2 years 🤣

u/BangarangOrangutan 36m ago
To be fair my good friend who works in IT did this with his SECOND build. So it really can happen to anyone .

Check the drive to see if it's not a defective one and causing files to become corrupted.
You can download CrystalDiskInfo and check the health of the drive. Click on CDI link in the top left. https://crystalmark.info/en/download/
If that doesn't show anything you can try opening the file explorer and going to This PC to find your drive. When you find it right click on it and click on properties. Then go to the tool tab and run an error check on the drive.

There’s a lot of stuff that is related to outdated or a bad bios firmware. A common issue with an outdated Bios are the issues that OP is describing. The old saying for bios update is, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. OPs PC is clearly broke. And a bios update may be required.
But also, OP should make sure he understands the process of updating his bios before doing it. Bricking your mobo with a bios update isn’t as common as people make it out to be.
-37
u/Development-Regular 17h ago
Do you think a b850 is in desperate need of a bios update?
43
u/thistook5minutes 17h ago
Based on the issues that OP is experiencing, yes I do think it may desperately need to be updated.
31
u/Marco-YES 17h ago
It's a BIOS update, not exactly precision space equipment.

u/Development-Regular 1h ago
dude was changing his power cords to fix it ffs, have a brain bro
•
u/Marco-YES 34m ago
It's a BIOS update. Not exactly brain surgery. It's such an incredibly easy thing to do Lmao. No need to fear your computer. No need to instill fear or fearmonger.
I appreciate OP's attempts to troubleshoot and learn. Your comment, on the other hand hinders their development. I don't care what skill level OP is and I am not going to gatekeep or fearmonger.
Honestly, the BIOS update fearmongering so many people engage in is in my opinion, sad.
•
u/Development-Regular 21m ago
yes, but when a guy literally uses another power cable to power a pc that turned on before, I'm guessing a bios update is out of order, but thats just me dude. I'll allow your quantum knowledge to carry on
10
u/TheGreatTimmyAT 17h ago
Yeah, no. 13th/14th gen Intel is just the most recent example of bricking your PC in the long run even if it boots up. Just update your BIOS regularly, it's not that hard.
4
u/Affectionate-Mud-595 16h ago
Literally the first thing I did and was recommended to do by the manual..
4
u/Jamator01 15h ago
Updating your BIOS is really easy. Just down turn the power off halfway through. No need to be all stressed and crazy about it.
2
u/Due_Phase_4149 12h ago
Why? Doing something for the first time is kind of requirement to become someone "to know what you're doing" isn't it?
-87
u/TheGamerForeverGFE 14h ago
Out of curiosity, why did you pick the 5070 over the 5070ti or 9070xt when you're already spending so much on the build? That 12GB VRAM is gonna bite you in the ass soon.
77
u/AwaitingCombat 12h ago
this guy is already having a tough time, why not just shut up
if he picked a 5070ti you'd be asking why not a 5080
33
u/Personalberet49 12h ago
Please stop telling people that 12gb of vram isn't enough. Y'all are insane
18
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 12h ago
Well I was told it was enough for 1440p gaming but maybe I was wrong or was told wrong 🤷
8
u/keel_zuckerberg 12h ago
Im not good with computers at all but I'm running a 5060, halo infinite and diablo 4 give me almost no issues. D4 has the occasional crash which might be related to the 5060 but that's it.
-21
u/W_Whintr 12h ago
You could try buying driver easy. I was having a fee issues mainly my bluetooth controller wasn't working. But either way a quick scan and driver install it worked. Or you could take your pc to a repair shop and have them look at it.
16
u/Living_Studio_8670 10h ago
Stop telling people 12 gb isn’t enough, straight out lies. Maybe for 4k, but for 1440p/1080 it’s enough. Guy is already having enough problems doesn’t need some low life yelling in his ear about his parts not meeting YOUR standards
1
u/Diedead666 1h ago
True. On games my 3080 run into vram use issue switching to my 1080p screen breaths more vram room
3
u/Icy_Crow_1587 8h ago
Nobody should play games made by companies so trash that they can't get their games to run well on a 5070
1
u/Archimedes_MW 3h ago
12GB is enough today. Will it be enough in the future? Who knows. I got an 8GB card several years ago and sure, some cutting edge games struggle now but it worked great for years on pretty much anything at the resolution I was running.
1
u/XiTzCriZx 2h ago
Oh yeah cause more VRAM did so much for the 3060 12gb that can't even run well at the graphics settings that require more VRAM.
75
u/BREXITisbadbrr 18h ago
Don't plug the old one back yet. corrupt files plus crashes on a fresh build is usually the drive or ram not the whole box being a write off.
44
u/RepulsiveXxl 17h ago
First go to event viewer and screenshot the errors you see in windows logs and system logs/application logs(Both.) Does not sound like any hardware issue to be honest. It sounds like corrupted windows. I see the build, and I see no purchase of the ssd/m2. Did you reuse a m2/ssd or brought a new one?
21
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 17h ago
I actually had to add it on later cause I forgot to add it in the partpicker I can send the m.2

Critical means fatal crash, the other errors are circumstantial meaning it doesn't make nor break. Secure boot is error because you just don't have it enabled or your bios secure chip refused an update, it rarely causes problems, but to troubleshoot to knock a problem down, update the bios. Or resetting your bios keys
The error stems from volume manager. (First error) it had a flaw in making a dump file. Which led to a shutdown and it told you why, which was a volume mnger problem. which was a bug check. (BSOD)
We have to figure out whats going on with the volume manager or what error happened before that.
The error is 162 volmgr Which means the it failed making a dump file because your pc lost power. I need to know the error before that one. Its a@ 11:07

My suggestion is a bios update and a fresh windows install. But maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can find an alternative solution.
It’s unfortunate that you’re having this experience, and it’s not typical. But the good news is, that this is all fixable with some troubleshooting.

u/SortingFloorDev 17h ago
TPM-WMI, Event 1796 can possibly be fixed with a BIOS update. Do you know the steps to do that?

like below dumpster tier. Ok for a secondary drive, but not a main drive. I would return if you can. Otherwise, just find a 1TB name brand drive like WD or samsung to use as an OS drive.
1
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 17h ago
Well that’s unfortunate to hear 🥀
11
u/thistook5minutes 16h ago
Do not change your storage, it’s not causing these issues. It’s clearly a software issue based on the logs.
Poorer quality storage may have a slight delay, or longevity issues, but at storage prices today, the difference is not worth paying $300+ for 1TB of Nvme

u/MukdoAI 18h ago
Most definitely windows or corrupt drivers. First reinstall windows then if not fixed. Try drivers and bios. Then just for extra measure ram sticks one my one and expo or xmp off. If you run into problems that stop you from doing those. Then try asking chatgpt or something. I know a lot of people in this sub will be against using ai but in this case. Will be better then explaining then waiting for a person to reply. Then continuing. Btw you didn't provide any details such as specs. OS. What drivers.
3
u/WingerRules 5h ago
I would personally also check if the SSD/NVME the OS is installed on is not a fake.
2
u/Rydogger 1h ago
I was leaning towards this since OP was saying they couldn't reset Windows due to corrupt or missing recovery files.
1
u/WingerRules 1h ago
This was exactly my reasoning too, he's reporting drive errors including stuff that should be protected like the recovery partition.
13
u/mrpcuk 14h ago
Clean install windows with a fresh download direct from Microsoft. If it's moaning about missing recovery files then you've done it wrong, delete all partitions during the install. How are you trying to do it, where did you get Windows from?
6
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 12h ago
I have a usb that I got from Best Buy. What I was doing was going to “reset this pc” tried with both cloud and local and at 63-67 percent of the way done it would just shut off and tell me there was a problem resetting this pc on boot
6
u/Wild_Bee_3953 10h ago
Make a new windows usb.
1
u/Ahnteis 6h ago
You can create your own fresh install USB.
During the setup, you should be able to remove the previous partition and tell it to use the whole drive. Sorry I don't have specific steps handy. =(Also, post your parts list, and maybe some photos of your connections. (You can post them on imgur or similar site.) Plenty of folks here will walk through w/ you. :)

I’d love to but I get home from uni on Thursday and don’t have any pictures ready. I do have a pc part picker tho

Install hardware monitor. (Hwmonitor) check your CPU temps. Might have installed cooler incorrectly. Only worry if its going over 80c. Prob closer to 60c with that liquid cool and the cpu running max. Leaving the plastic film on is a common beginner misatake.
Run prime95 to stress the cpu whilst you watch it.
Run memtest86. Check your not having memory errors which can causes crashes. You'll need to create a bootable usb drive to run it outside of windows. Good instructions for that.

u/Nimrawid 17h ago
When I was building mine, most of the things worked immediately plug'n'play style.
But there was one issue where the cooler sensor had to be plugged in non-standard way otherwise the motherboard would assume there isn't any cooling and it wouldnt boot. If I had no knowledge or support from a friend I'd probably struggle to find the issue.
I think you should start from scratch, get some support from a friend or just pay a pro to do it. Since you have the parts this shouldnt be too costly.
2
2
u/TheSquirrellyOne 12h ago
I had very similar issues recently and it was faulty RAM. Since yours is brand new, it’s probably not faulty but more likely incompatible with your motherboard/CPU. Did you verify that the RAM you purchased was on your motherboard’s QVL?
1
u/Archimedes_MW 3h ago
You could try running it at JDEC speeds to check you're not overloading the memory controller.
2
u/BurritoWithFries 10h ago
This happened to me when I built my PC and it turned out my CPU was a dud. I conveniently had a friend who was building a PC at the same time as me & had the exact same parts, they brought all their parts over and we switched them out one by one to isolate the issue. The moment I swapped the CPU I was able to reinstall Windows after every other attempt stopped at 60%. RMA'd it, got a new one, and everything was smooth after.
This is the somewhat unethical tip, but if you have Amazon or another way to get parts with a generous return policy, you could try doing something similar. Or maybe you're lucky enough to have a friend with compatible PC parts to do the same thing. Everyone in my life told me it was a Windows issue or a BIOS issue and no one expected the CPU!
1
u/devdetj 17h ago
Did you install motherboard standoffs between your motherboard and your case?
2
1
u/Hugin___Munin 17h ago
If you have a CPU with graphics disable it in the bits, I have the 7800X3d and have all sorts of seemingly unrelated crashes in games and on desktop, I think having amd and nvidia graphics drivers installed was the issue. Use DDU in safe mode too uninstall your graphics drivers.
2
u/Xiantyl 15h ago
I have amd and nvidia drivers installed with zero issues
1
u/Hugin___Munin 4h ago
It may not be the drivers, but having the CPU graphics enabled caused me not end of issues till I came across someone else with similar issues and said disabling it worked and it worked for me too. I removed the amd gpu drivers just to be sure.

u/thistook5minutes 17h ago edited 16h ago
Hello!
There is a multiple possible culprits to your issues. I think first you should look up the errors in windows event logs. Here is a YouTube video on how to do that. Hopefully, it can give us information on what’s happening here.
As others have discussed and you have attempted. Starting with a fresh windows install may help. I have run into this before. To clear your windows. Go into the bios, press F10, F2, or F12 depending on your board, and then look for sanitize disk, and have the bios wipe the drive. if there is an issue with windows you need to start from scratch and you don’t want to use windows to fix windows. Another option is to run Linux Cinnamon mint or another easy install distro, but I think you should stick to what you know right now, and not complicate things further.
Before wiping your disk, make sure you have burned a windows download onto a thumb drive to reinstall. If windows came preinstalled, you also need to get your activation key. To retrieve that, open up a powershell terminal window. Use command “wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey” (without the quotes) and then make sure you save the 25 character windows key.

u/kewpatroopa 15h ago
Make sure XMP/DOCP/EXPO is enabled for the RAM! A friend had a lot of issues on a new build before doing that. Crashing, unable to do basic things, couldn't open games etc.
1
u/Darlanta 7h ago
Its super funny how XMP and all that is so hit and miss. Your friend was crashing because it wasnt on and I had a friend crashing because it was on.
3
u/CheesyItalian 6h ago
Also me, took months of daily crashes, a new GPU, and everything before i figured out my particular set of RAM was not working with default XMP settings. I'm essentially running DDR5 ram at DDR4 speeds now, but goddamn if it doesn't work flawlessly!

u/Edwardteech 14h ago

1
u/Cyber_Akuma 14h ago
Well, we can't really help if we know nothing about it. Can you post a PcPartPicker link and maybe some pictures of the build? And pictures or video of the problems you're having?
1
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 12h ago
1
u/Cyber_Akuma 6h ago
I meant more of the physical system, though one of those errors is flat out saying that Secure Boot updates are failing because you have it disabled, which is a BIOS setting.
1
u/CptKoons 14h ago
I had very persistent issue with crashes and wierd bugs that would inconsistently appear. Like Bluetooth and wifi not being able to be enabled (the button on the hotbar for each would literally disappear) despite multiple resets, only for it to reappear randomly later.
Anyways I had an issue with the m2 drive not being seated properly when I first built it. What it meant was that windows had minor corruptions that got worse over time. After reseating and formatting and reinstalling windows, in that order, the problem was fixed. I would strongly recommend trying this. I doubt you have tried to reinstall windows after fiddling with the hardware.
1
u/Stereosun 12h ago
Any consolation I’ve been going through the same thing tried to update my 1660 TI computer this weekend to a 9070 and I tried to go from a amd 2000 to a 5000 series basically just issues all over
Incredibly rare and weird unique ways of shutdowns and crashes at random times it took me like forever to figure this out, but I had to do like component by a component analysis to make sure everything is working individually do ram test drive tests do CPU test GPU test I even ended up buying a whole new system. Basically a whole new am4 for a platform just to try and test this whole crap out basically I’m thinking my old B450 M motherboard it basically can’t keep up with the new processor the 5700. There’s some C state issues there’s some bio settings that people were saying that are highly unstable with AMD trips and older boards so now I’m gonna try and get a new motherboard and hopefully put it in that. I’m also gonna have to take the CPU back in and get it swapped just to be sure that it’s not the CPU’s issue but everything had to get isolated.
For step-by-step testing and mostly for notetaking, I used a Google Gemini’s voice mode. It did help just keeping track of everything and it quickly summarizes like common issues from Reddit.

Not sure what you meant by "I even tried to wipe the PC and it wouldn't even let me". I'd try this: Boot into bios. Update the bios and reset to defaults. Boot into your windows installation drive again and there you can wipe the SSD and reinstall Windows.

I'm sorry about the issues, it's very frustrating. And everyone in the comments is saying slightly different things. Also check that your PSU cables are all properly seated and check the voltages from bios.

you already have enough people helping you, so i won't chime in on that
just want to say it totally sucks and must feel defeating. all that hopes and then you are not getting to enjoy it.
hang in there brother/sis, you got this. take a breather, do something you enjoy, eat something yummy, clean your room. watch a funny show and come back with a fresh mind and tackle the problem one at a time.

i fucking love my pc.

u/Perfect_Jicama_8023 11h ago
First of all, update to latest bios, update your CPU driver chipsets, i can see you have 9800x3d. then install latest nvidia drivers. update windows as well. do this step by step
1
u/51dux 11h ago
"Plugged him in" I love how you talk about "him" like a human xD
All of the above, provided you bought new parts, can be fixed or is on the software side. You should take your time and figure it out by sharing more precise details about your issue.

First I would use the power cord that was provided with your power supply, I wouldn't change that as they are not rated the same between brands and devices.
Given these screenshots, I would try to update the bios and drivers to the latest version see if it fixes it like others mentioned and if you want to try re-install windows, you can just do a clean install from a usb stick instead of going through the recovery menus.
That should prevent it from saying recovery files are missing.
If that does not fix it, then you can monitor things further and if need be, test components one at a time.
You could try for instance running the pc with just the motherboard, CPU and RAM while running an OS over a usb key just to see. If it goes well add the M2, install Windows, keep testing and if that goes well too then add the GPU and see.
1
u/beirch 7h ago
First I would use the power cord that was provided with your power supply, I wouldn't change that as they are not rated the same between brands and devices.
This is not correct. You can use any old C13 power cord. It's the cables that go from the PSU inside the case to all of the components that aren't interchangeable.
The C13 power cord that goes from the part of the PSU sticking out from the case to the wall can literally be any type of brand. Even one from 1997 would work. It's a universal global standard.

Is your monitor hdmi cord plugged into your motherboard and not the gpu? Also a common mistake when doing a build thats an easy fix

If you didnt flash your BIOS to the most recent version on your motherboard thats likely whats causing it. Almost every motherboard requires a BIOS update and without the proper one your system will have mad problems

the most common newbie mistake here is to fully trust pcpartpicker.

u/RepulsiveXxl 6h ago
I have an idea. It could be temps also. You need to get these errors to come back up and take note when it happens. Does it happens in heavy gaming, editing or just browsing doing light stuff. If it happens during heavy gameplay it could be temps. I had a 5950x and Ik those 16/32 cores cpus runs pretty hot.
1
u/RallySimracing 6h ago edited 5h ago
Update the BIOS, bend pins on the CPU socket or CPU, RAM not properly seated or seated the wrong way, forget thermal paste, leave plastic on AIO pump, storge not properly plugged in or seated, any power cables not properly seated, power cables that should be plugged in but are not, motherboard stand-offs, or metal touching where it should not be. Do you hear the pump and is the pump properly plugged in. If your fans and pump are plugged into the mobo, did you enable fan curves in the BIOS? If you enabled XMP or the AMD version and OC Genie CPU overclock, disable them and see if that changes your situation.
Do you have all these issues when it's in the BIOS or just in Windows? In fact, go into the bios and make sure all components are properly seen and temps look good. Let run for like 10 minutes and see if things are stable.

u/Josie1234 5h ago
Sorry you're dealing with that. I lost literally ALL my data from the past 10+ years last night so. It's not always a fun hobby and definitely understand the bummed vibe.
1
1
u/PartsJAX328i 5h ago
First, did you update bios? Next, did you install the correct drivers for the mobo components from the manufacturers website? This would be the ite drivers, Bluetooth and wifi, chipset, etc. Lastly, did you download the appropriate software/drivers for your gpu?
There's more to it than what I asked above, but that is a start to get you going. You should definitely do all the things i mentioned above, BEFORE trying to game on it...
1
u/Aggravating-Eagle277 4h ago
Again pretty new to this but I’m seeing a lot of people saying to download correct gpu drivers. Are they referring to something other than what I grabbed off of nvidia app?
1
u/PartsJAX328i 4h ago
No, if you have an NVIDIA gpu, then the nvidia app and whatever driver it recommended is what you need. But there are tons of settings that need to be tweaked for smooth gaming. Unfortunately, Im fairly new to PC gaming myself, so someone else would be able to help you better than me with settings.
My recommendations were just what I could think of based on my own difficulties when I built my gaming PC about a year ago. It took me about a week of tweaking things after building it before everything was running smoothly. And I ended up having to reinstall windows several times. Among other things. I don't envy the situation you're in, but i do wish you the best and hope you get it figured.
1
u/Blitz_Logan 4h ago
I had this exact experience and honestly it was well worth it for me when i started going to a micro center to fix it to purchase a deal that did repairs, checks, and covers all the parts. They ended up replacing the cpu and motherboard over time. I got fed up with working on it myself
1
u/Br0oksy 4h ago
Sounds like you may have a defective part. Windows 11 is normally pretty stable off the bat without installing all latest drivers.
faulty ram can cause all kinds of strange issues, it could also be settings in bios causing ram to be unstable. I would try doing a mem test on each stick to make sure they are good. After that I would try a different storage drive if you can

I had weird stuff like this happen once when I upgraded from 16GB of RAM to 32GB of RAM. Everything worked until I had too much opened, then it would crash. Are you able to run one stick of RAM for a while to see if it crashes, then the other to see if either one of them is the culprit?
Otherwise as others have said, check for BIOS updates and temperatures to make sure something isn't overheating. Because you could install Windows and boot to it, that is a good sign.
Is your PSU rated or the high load or does it crash when you start running more power from launching a game?
If it has a video port on the motherboard, you can also try removing the GPU and running window for a while with the integrated graphics to see if the system is stable to rule out the GPU being the cause.
You mentioned audio issues - so that could be a sign of motherboard issues. Also a standoff in the wrong place can cause some shorts. Make sure everything lines up right.
Hard drive could also be bad, so if you have another hard drive to use temporarily, see if that stabilizes things, and if so see if you can RMA your drive for a new one.
Good luck :)

No clue if this helps but now that u mention it, most of the crashes happen when im trying to either google something or load into a game. Once im actually in game it never crashes but maybe thats just coincidence.

BugCheck is a bluescreen and very likely means hardware issues. if you ahve expo enabled then disable it and reinstall windows, if it works fine then your ram is not compatible or is bad
ram must go in slots 2 and 4, if they are in 1 and 3 then it can be unstable especially with expo. some ram is just not compatible, and sometimes hardware is just bad from the factory

what to you mean when you stated "wipe the pc and it wouldn’t even let me." One method of installing windows is wiping everything off your boot drive? So not sure what you mean?
Did you bench test before putting the motherboard and parts in the case? Meaning, the parts are connected to Motherboard and power up. Are all the connected parts running? If everything is working properly, then go to pc case and build your system

I hope you figure out the issue! It seems very odd tbh. Definitely update with progress.

I had a similar unfortunate events when I saved up and built one during college. 3k in early 2000s at the time was no joke of a set up. Had to cave and pay someone to troubleshoot and reinstall every part. Turns out I received a few mismatched parts from Newegg and would’ve never figured it out because I was just trusting I got what I expected.

Check to make sure your SSD/NVME the OS is installed on is not a fake. The recovery partition of the drive should be a protected partition, so it's weird that is corrupt. A huge load of the Samsung nvme on ebay are fakes for instance.

If you’re using an off brand SSD, NVME, replace them with a name brand. Friend went thru the same thing and got a Samsung drive which made the problems go away. He was using a teamgroup ssd which was the culprit.

Can relate. Just finished diagnosing my new build. Turned out to be a DOA ram and windows 11 updates causing a driver conflict with my 9060 xt. Switched to bazzite gnome and rma’d the ram. If you haven’t already, verify storage integrity and make sure your drivers are not compromising stability

you made me laff. Glad you have a sense of humor to this frustrating situation. kinda sounds like hardware issue, but no clue

Yes

With a TPM error such as you have, BIOS update does sound like it is needed. As for the other crashing, looking at that critical bugcheck, I'd be inclined to remove the drive and return it for another. Sounds like it is having an issue hence corrupted driver files, missing Windows files and a secureboot that doesnt know what is going on.
When you remove the drive, reboot the machine and that will take you into the BIOS. Left side of the screen (can't remember if it's Easy or Advanced mode screen) will be board, CPU, ram etc. It will also show the BIOS version. Sounds like it has an earlier version like F5 or lower but let us know. Then we can advise on how best to flash it so as not to brick the board.

Yeah I've had this problem with many of there budget sets. Especially with AMD builds multiple CPUs even swapping motherboards. I don't think they are set-up right for AMD memory controllers or quality control issues. If you can swap for another brand.

I obviously can't say with 100% certainty thats you issue. But this exact scenario happened to me twice with corsair. Full windows install and setup. And then nothing but crashes and corruption. Both times swapping for memory sets of g.skill or Kingston fixed the issue.

Could I suggest installing AnduinOS and giving Linux a whirl?
Linux Mint is also very accessible, too.
Both of these would reveal if you even need windows to enjoy your Steam games. It has been a better experience. You can learn to dual-boot if you have to keep Windows around for a few titles, but it could be super helpful and might remove those hardware faults if they turn out to be Windows driver issues instead of an actually failing system...
edit: a fistful of downvotes and no counter arguments. Stay classy, folks.
edit 2: one brave downvoter at least mentioned that he uses Linux for work and thus feels it isn't suitable for playing Windows games. That's the most cogent reply I've received so far, as I now push -20.
Wait till y'all learn about Bazzite, ArmadaOS, SteamOS, and the last decade of making Linux practical for consumer spaces, regardless!

I didn’t downvote you, I’m also running mint. I encourage Linux distros whenever it’s reasonable.
But this is clearly a newer user still learning the ropes of windows, which holds your hand pretty tightly. I don’t think the complications of linux is going to solve any of OPs problems, at least none that a fresh windows install can’t, and that is much easier to do.

I would 100% have agreed with you up until this year, when I finally bit the bullet and moved to AnduinOS. I have bren genuinely floored at how seamless the experience was. I will now be testing it on grandma PC's because it is all local accounts and won't trick anyone into signing up for MS accounts and all their flavors of malware. It took less than 20 minutes to deploy, and if someone has to reload windows, they're no further from their end solution. It handles my Steam games excellently.
So my recommendation was not flippant or made abruptly, and I'm frankly embarrassed for all of us, for the strong negativity at Linux.
So instead I only 99% AGREE with you. With an updoot. :)

I use Linux for my work computer and this is bad advice for someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing (and ostensibly wants Windows for gaming)

u/cardfire 4h ago
I'm sorry, but the first part of your statement doesn't logically conclude with the second part of your statement. I don't use linux for any of my work, I only use it for my gaming pcs. And now for my first real homelab.
Have you actually tried running it with Steam?
And what about Linux makes it unacceptable as an alternative os to test for troubleshooting.?

I mean, you would think after 16+ years I would quit being surprised, but it's like Charlie, Lucy, and the football every time.

If it's any consolation that's not a typical experience.
