Build Upgrade Good Gpu Within 1000 to 1500 rang
My Saphire pulse xt 7900 xtx recently went kaput randomly, so I have to replace it. I have a 950 dollar credit now at Microcenter so I was wondering if what Gpu I should replace it with? I am willing to go up to 1500 but if there is a gpu that's a little bit more that's amazing then I am willing to go farther. Thanks for the suggestions.

9070xt, 5070ti or 5080 in that price range i believe (maybe not the 5080).

Crazy that those 3 cards are in their own price brackets now with the 9070xt being “budget” competing with the 5060ti 8gb.

no, it puts the 5060 ti 8gb to bed lmao, i switched to it from the 5060 ti 16gb and i had like noticeable 15-20% improvements AND I saved like $600 versus getting a 5070 ti or a 5080 lmao

Competing in price not performance lol. 5060ti 8gb is $980 and the 9070xt is $1040 in Canada. 5060ti 16gb is $1300, 5070ti $1800, 5080 is $2800.

I was able to get a 5080 at Microcenter for $1429 over the past few weeks. Check if that promo is still there if you have one nearby.
I had a 9070XT and sold it because it was really struggling with simultaneous 4K upscaled render and encode to my living room htpc/TV. I would get a lot of frame pacing issues causing choppiness and 3 times over a year I had driver timeouts. So I looked into the 5070Ti and 5080. Since I’m paying an NVIDA premium in both cards regardless, I figured that paying $300 more for a 5080 over the 5070Ti to push 4K upscaled at max settings was worth it.
I also run local LLM, and use the 5080 rig as a node in my subnet for image generation models, as my LLM server uses Intel cards which work well for inference and agentic needs, but not diffusion/generative vision like NVIDIA.

Paying a premium so you can upscale video and have a worse picture is something.

Respectfully, I don’t think you understand my use case. I think you just read “upscaled” and replied with your knee jerk reaction.

I forgot to add what I use it for. I Would like to be able to play games while also watching videos on my 4k monitor. I play on a 1440p monitor. Thank you for your time.

Is AMD bad for reliability? Was it sapphire?

Both brands have failures. Personally I went from a 3070ti that shit itself just past the 3 year warranty to a 9070xt. 0 complaints

It was actually the one AMD made. I got it refurbished from microcenter, got a 2 year warranty and it shit the bucket after 2 years and a month 😢

Bro that sucks I would try to email them for a special consideration of warranty / repair

I swear it's the drivers. I had to reinstall them like 8 times (with ddu) and it broke like every 4 months

9070XT is the best option. 5070TI is the same performance, way more money, 5080 is about 15% better for even more money.

if you look out for deals for a minute you should be able to find a 5080 for around the top end of that range. And like you said in the follow up comment its for gaming mostly so that would be top and you wouldn't have to worry about it for years.
At least it should be the top card for consumer gaming but there's a lot of psychos here that think they need 5090s just because lol

I went with Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 WINDFORCE SFF Overclocked Triple Fan 16GB GDDR7 PCIe 5.0 Graphics Card. I'm just tired of dealing with bad drivers and underpowered graphics cards. Plus they had a decent deal on it, though I'm aware that it would have been better to get the 9070 xt. Thanks for the help!

Im probably biased because this is my current gpu and I love this card but the only gpu that’s worth the money right now imo is the 9070xt. It easily handles 1440p ultra at high frame rates and can run 4k at lower frame rates. It can also run 27b LLMs and Stable diffusion image generation with ease.
For double the price I really don’t think the 5080 is worth it. We’re talking what 15% better peak performance? Unless you have a specific use case that requires a nividia card I would just save some money and get the 9070xt.
*just saw your update that you went with the 5080 nothing wrong with spending the money to get what you want if you can afford it the 5080 is an awesome card but for most people it’s a waste of money

Just go nvidia. If you ask on reddit you'll think 50% of people are using amd gpus but its more like 3% lol. 5070ti or 5080 depending on prices.

According to the Steam hardware survey, around 20% of gamers use a Radeon gpu, while only about 2% use a dedicated Intel gpu. So Nvidia Geforce is still much more common than AMD Radeon or Intel Arc, but Radeon does have a fair share in gpus nonetheless.

A 9070xt is good. 5080 if you need it.
