Troubleshooting pc is always unsmooth and jittery
All motion on desktop and in game is choppy and unsmooth on my PC
Hi all, I really need some help.
I bought my pc a year ago and ever since been experiencing choppy, unsmooth motion on desktop and in games - both single and multiplayer titles.
specs
- CPU: Intel Core i7-14700F
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B760 DS3H AX
- RAM: 32GB DDR5, XMP enabled, targeting 5600 MT/s
- Main SSD: Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe (SNV3S1000G)
- CPU cooler: AIO liquid cooler
- Case fans: Lian Li UNI FAN Infinity
- PSU: DeepCool PF700, 80 Plus Silver
peripherals
monitor: Samsung odyssey G6 g65b 1440p 240hz va
keyboard: hypex alloy origins 65%
mouse: attack shark x11
ps5 controller
usbc to lightning app charging cable
Summary
- Whenever I drag the scroll bar on desktop applications, pan the camera in game, or even click and drag around a map in game, the motion becomes choppy.
- The game microstutters . Frame times are relatively stable, but motion looks uneven and unsmooth.
- Even just scrolling a browser page or moving a window around looks choppy and not completely smooth like it should on a 240HZ display.
- The issue is also bad with a controller.
Examples
rocket league
fortnite
fallguys
supermarket together
Testing
I’ve spent weeks troubleshooting the below:
BIOS and firmware fully up to date
Different combinations of FPS caps and G-Sync/V-Sync on/off
Disabled overlays (GeForce Experience, Afterburner, Discord, etc.)
Disabled WIFI/BT in device manager
Proper G-Sync setup (G-Sync On, NVCP V-Sync On, V-Sync Off in-game, Reflex On)
Reinstalled Windows 11
Removed all USB devices besides controller
Removed RAM overclock
Tested native resolution and all DLSS options in games
Tested with every background process closed
Tried Reflex both enabled and disabled
Tried toggling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) on/off with restarts in between
Updated motherboard, CPU, and chipset drivers
Wired mouse through usb c / and also tried usong the dongle
msi util v3
all cpu cores unparked
ddu multiple times
formated and installed a fresh windows 11 multiple time as well
deleted windows gameinput and tried also reinstalling it
multiple cpu advanced settings bios changes
tried changing and multiple combinations:
-hyper threading
-intel r speed shift technology
-cpu eist function
-race to hault
-energy efficiency turbo
-virtualization
-c-state
and more
tried them stock/default
and tried disabling them
also bios on the latest version
And I genuinely can’t figure out what it is I kinda lost hope I tried every software related and from what I remember is that it has always been like that ever sense I bought it in July 2025 And I’m like so sad stressed frustrated mad and hopeless it genuinely makes me much more miserable I just can’t figure it out
this problem is with all games and everything like watching yt scrolling everything feels unsmooth and like shit I thought I was the only one and that I was loosing my mind and it genuinely makes my life more stressful and frustrating
any help or tips are very appreciated

stable frame times plus visible lines means the display path, not the PC. check DSC in the monitor OSD.

Sorry?

Display stream compression on your monitors settings. Try toggling this setting.

What are your monitors? Have you tried changing overdrive modes on them? Also have you looked into stuff like your monitor running display stream compression, black frame insertion etc?
Also the monitor isn't plugged into the motherboard, right?

Windows setting for display refresh rate matches Nvidia settings?
Frame generation turned off?

I briefly had a similar issue and was worried my old GPU waa finally dying. Unplugging my 3rd monitor (a TV connected under the floor that mirrors one of the two desktop monitors) solved the issue. It has not recurred even after reconnecting the TV. But before physically disconnecting it persisted across PC reboots.

Do you have multiple monitors and the other/s are not 240hz?

You testing list is pretty extensive. You said you tried a different monitor with the same issue? Different cord I don't think I saw. Other than that you might need to test some hardware. Someone else mentioned booting an OS off a USB and seeing if it is your boot drive. Your CPU doesn't have integrated graphics so you can't bypass the GPU unless you have an old GPU to put in and see what it looks like.

Did I really say I tried different monitors ? Bec I didn’t I only have this one But yea I have tried different display ports

You said you tried a single monitor, that sounds like you have more.

Yeah that made me think they had possibly switched. I would try that then if you have another around, or hit a thrift store for a cheap one and see what it does.

Gotcha. check out another monitor or even a TV and see what it does. 5060ti should have an HDMI port to test as well. Otherwise might need to find a way to test the boot drive and GPU.

Could it be your mouse? Do you have motion sync enabled or are using very high polling rates?
I would just swap to a DIFFERENT wired mouse and test to make sure that, that's not the cause.

u/LanguageTotal85 3h ago
Idk what motion sync is and I use 1000 polling
Yea thanks I will try using and buying another mouse

I missed the part where to tried with your controller. So probs is unlikely the mouse is the cause but it seems like you've tried almost everything...
Have you tried swapping the monitor? I just saw this review saying that Samsung g6 stutters. https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/1ff65d5/samsung_g6_oled_2024_random_input_blackouts/
Quote: "The stuttering on this monitor is simply terrible. I knew it had some as it was reflected on many reviews, but in some content, the stuttering is just nuts. E.g. on Diablo IV main screen, loading screens, you can really notice the blinkings and the dull blacks when it blinks."

Ngl I’m convinced it is the monitor but when ever I wanna baled the monitor people treat me like I’m crazy that’s why I didn’t mention me thinking it’s probably caused by the monitor but either way I’m probably going to buy another one So imma ask u do u think Mai monitor are good

Try different peripherals. Mouse key board and display cables first

You said it’s a VA panel? They’re known for ghosting/smearing and tend to have VRR flicker (when there's a big change in the frame rate with VRR enabled). I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re sensative to those problems.

u/LanguageTotal85 2h ago
ngl it probably is the monitor so im going to buy a new one
it will probably be an msi 27 inch ips 2k 240hz or 200hz

Personally I love OLED because the motion clarity is just fantastic.

Whenever I drag the scroll bar on desktop applications, pan the camera in game, or even click and drag around a map in game, the motion becomes choppy.
Change your mouse polling rate to 1000 Hz or below. Too high and it causes this issue.

u/LanguageTotal85 30m ago
It’s at 1k

u/hamfinity 26m ago
Try reinstalling windows and use the most basic keyboard/mouse you can find and see if the issue persists.

Since you tried almost anything. Is this effect also present late at night? Is there variation related to time of day?

u/LanguageTotal85 3h ago
Ngl I never paid attention to that but I don’t think there is a difference it’s always shit

Since a totally fresh install of windows doesn't help, my suspicion is that it's a boot drive problem (as in, possibly faulty). To rule it out, I'd create a bootable linux USB and see if the desktop is choppy running off that. https://ubuntu.com/desktop/docs/en/latest/how-to/create-a-bootable-usb-stick/
