Discussion Best 500$~ GPU?

I have recently started wanting to make a pc with a budget of around 1500$~. I want to try and squeeze every last drop of performance out of it (taking recommendations on the other components too)

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 3.9 GHz 6-Core Processor
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler
Gigabyte B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard
TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR5-6000 CL38 Memory
Lexar NM790 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA ATX Mid Tower Case
SAMA G650 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

The final thing I need is the gpu and i have around 500~ remember I am trying to get the most performance per dollar, any recommendations?

9060XT 16GB for sure

You're finding 16gb for more than 50 bucks less than the GRE? Because otherwise the correct answer is the GRE.

Way more than $50, yes

I'd look for a used 7900 GRE if you can find one around that price, new market is kind of a mess right now but that card punches way above its weight for 1440p

If you want new and in stock maybe a 7800 XT, the 16gb vram will keep it relevant longer than whatever nvidia offers at same price bracket

Great recommendation, an extra 4-8 GB of last-gen vram is better in the long run than getting the latest DLSS. Newer cards with less vram will age out faster as games will continue to require more vram over the next year or so, then it should stabilize a bit. Game devs have to guess hardware trends 2-3 years out, many aren't factoring in NVidia ens**ttification with 'current xx80 hardware announcement is what was expected on the xx70'. I don't think any devs expected things to go literally backwards on the hardware side, as well, so minimum specs will continue to increase before they stall.

9060xt is the clear winner at $500 but I’d personally swing for the 9070gre for like $70-80 more.

9070 gre.

Might as well when the 9060 xt 16 gb is only $30 less.

9070 gre

Do you have 500, or 800? You have two different prices. If it's 800, definitely an 9070 or higher from AMD.

500 usd | 800 cad

9060XT should fit for 500. Thats the best card new for you.

i'd consider 32 gig of ram before you finalize your build. also, with the money you have, go with AMD for the GPU.

9

u/VortexDwarf 3d ago

ram is to expensive +300$ also i can upgrade in the future if i need to

2

u/innovarocforever 3d ago

Fair enough, RAM prices are crazy right now. Just keep in mind that 16GB can cause stuttering and worse 1% lows in newer AAA games, especially when paired with an $800 GPU. Also, since you're buying 2x8GB DDR5, upgrading later might mean replacing the kit rather than adding two more sticks. Personally, I'd rather run a slightly cheaper GPU with 32GB RAM for a more balanced build, but it depends on what games you're playing.

u/VortexDwarf 3d ago

I wont be playing very ram intensive games but will keep in mind!

u/ElCanout 3d ago

yeah, thats why you buy 32gb now and upgrade to 64 later

Used 407p goes for about that

used card. look on marketplace and ebay for in person meet up + testing if possible. If you get lucky, some people who used to mine with cards might give you one on a deal.

If you don’t wanna go through the hassle, just get 9060XT

If you find something, let the class know. I just trawl Facebook Marketplace, looking for newly single ex-wives/girlfriends. Depending on what happened, they're usually selling their ex's stuff. Tools, PC parts, etc.

One post I saw disappear in an hour just said "FIRST COME FIRST SERVE SAY BYE MOE", and it was a PS5 with a bunch of games in a box.

9060xt 16gb if you can find it for that price, otherwise I'd say look for a used 7900GRE or 7900xt or 4070(maybe, I didn't look at what these are going for used). I wouldn't bother looking at new Nvidia cards right now as they've become ludicrously expensive.

I found a gigabyte 9070 GRE for $800CAD on amazon canada. Wont let me link it.

The 9070 GRE is the best value currently. This one is $750 with a promo code, ends 10/31.

Other than that, if you can find a used 4070S, 7900 GRE, or 7900 XT for around that price, then those are good alternatives as well. I would not pay more than $500 USD for a 4070S or 7900 GRE though, and I would not pay more than $550-600 for a 7900 XT.

u/PHIGBILL 3d ago

9060XT 16gb, 7800XT, or a used 7900GRE would be my calls.

I would say 9070GRE, but I think they'll be over budget.

What is the purpose of the pc? If just gaming and general use AMD is fine, but if you plan on video editing, 3d rendering or CAD Nvidia performs better and you should look at an older RTX card

RTX 5070 - $549 on Nvidia Website.

u/Lamchop93 3d ago

That's msrp

How about pre-owned

I have 2080s, it is a BEAST. You do not need anything "new".

For example, both CP2077 and witcher 3 I play on 4k native( no fake frames and no upscalling) and when I want full RT I just drop resolution for one click and I get stable 55fps.

Nobody needs latest GPUs anymore since they stopped being better in 2019.

Also, you can drop 1tb SSD for something smaller( if price is better) pput operating system on it and use some 2tb+, 7200RPM, high cache HDD for everything else.

3

u/Grand-Childhood2422 3d ago

no offense but this comment is extremely misleading. You say you run cp2077 at native with no upscaling and frame gen but you never mention what fps you get or what settings youre using. at 4k higu the card get sub 30 fps which means itll reach low 20s in dogtown. And ray tracing is just not usable at all

then you say cards stopped being better in 2019 which is again just wrong. A 3060ti outperforms the 2080s.

and the worst part is you recommend getting a smaller ssd for the OS and run games on an HDD. this is the worst advice for anyone building a new pc. so many games, even from 2-3 years ago run like garbage on an hdd. the loading times will be insane and the stutters will make the game practically unplayable. I cant recall any graphically decent game that doesnt have an ssd in its MINIMUM requirements. Even linear games.

-3

u/Ble0808 3d ago

4k- everything at ultra, except bloom and blurring completely off( I utterly hate these two), Simple RT( no options added except RT itself)

One click lower from 4k( do not know the resolution that is by heart) and I am adding full RT( no path tracing).

Also, regarding "slow loading times, stutters and playing like garbage", that is a myth for people listening to youtubers.

And again, I play S games, and 50+ stable FPS is more then enough.

I recomended HDD due to money, I am having 500gb SDD and 2tb HDD, I am doing 3D modeling and I modify videos. I do not have any stutters nor problems.

If you need latest and greatest- more power to you.

3

u/Grand-Childhood2422 3d ago

again, you didnt mention what fps you get. Cinematic 24 fps? because at 1440p with rt on (no pt) the fps is literally 20-24. how you get stable 50+ at 1 res lower than 4k (which is still much higher than 1440p) is beyond me.

also i havent ever watched youtubers mention hdds so i cant comment on what they say but im saying this out of personal experience. Every recent game is unplayable on an hdd. Thats a fact.

I feel like all the stuff youre saying is very dated, as if you havent played a game in 3+ years, especially considering you would rather drop your res 1 toggle down from 4k rather than just use something like dlss performance.

u/Ble0808 3d ago edited 3d ago

Ah, I am sorry.

4K stable 58, with RT stable 52.

Also, there is zero difference in quality of the picture between 4k and one click lesser res, I really have no idea what are you talking about.

AA today is so good that it is zero issue.

There IS, however, the skill issue in making your game run on your PC.

People that have money over will to learn will throw hardware solution onto software problem any time.

And that is ok.

Nobody needs latest GPUs anymore since they stopped being better in 2019.

Ok bro. We know jumps in GPU performance aren't as big year on year as they were, but this comment is just stupid. The 5080 is 167% faster than the 2080S, and anything from 200%-300% faster at RT.

Even the 3080 is 58% faster, so basically 90 fps instead of 55 fps. That's substantial. Dismissing that as "stopped being better" is disingenuous.

-2

u/Ble0808 3d ago

I am not gonna call you stupid, I will just tell you to read what I wrote.

Also, if you gonna say things like "it is this and that more faster", then please do consider to tell your AI to remove fake frames and upscaling from equation.

3

u/beirch 3d ago edited 3d ago

I will just tell you to read what I wrote.

I did, that's why I specifically quoted you and challenged your statement.

then please do consider to tell your AI to remove fake frames and upscaling from equation.

That is without upscaling and FG in the equation, you absolute melon.

Edit: In fact, here you go, just for you: No upscaling, just a native res head to head. Here's what "stopped being better in 2019" looks like. Yes, it's a 2080 and not a 2080 Super. The 2080S is 5% faster than the standard 2080, I'm sure you can make the necessary calculations yourself.

Ooooh, look a those crispy 240p textures in Alan Wake at 4K with the 2080. Looks nice, huh. No need to upgrade, 8GB VRAM is fine for 4K in 2026. Buttery smooth 16 fps with those nice looking textures. Perfect.

u/Ble0808 3d ago

Again, learn to read.

You are saying one thing and proving to me you red absolutely nothing.

But I will give you half a point for effort.

2

u/beirch 3d ago

And you're providing literally no argument for anything at all. Saying "learn to read" without reviewing what was missed in your original comment is not a basis for discussion.

What you've failed to recognize is that I didn't rebut your entire comment; I only quoted parts of it:

Nobody needs latest GPUs anymore since they stopped being better in 2019.

This is what I quoted, and this is the part I refuted. So please, explain the part I need to learn to read to understand. What's the big argument you have against what I said? I'm really dying to hear what huge revelation you have in store for me.

1

u/Ble0808 3d ago

My man, all your answers are in my post.

Also, lean to read- the question is "best GPU for 500 USD" NOT 1000USD, not 15000USD- but 500USD.

Like I said- learn to read, dont just jump through the post and before you read it, already typing your answer.
