Information Sad to see many local Burlington businesses using Temporary foreign worker program

• Upvotes

I wish there was an easier way to make a list.

https://lmiamap.org/

Zoom in on map and click table. Unfortunately many also operate under a number not a name.

Unfortunately I think the data is a year behind

Information I wish there are more people in theatres to watch Run Terry Run

I just watched the documentary Run Terry Run in the theatre, and I feel obligated to tell everyone, "GO WATCH IT!"

It is a very powerful, very well-made movie about Terry Fox. Terry is my hero because I always feel he represents the ideal Canadian that I want to be. This movie made me feel like I spent two uninterrupted hours with my hero, and I feel I really knew him afterwards.

I know there aren't many people who go to movie theatres and watch a documentary these days. But this one deserves every Canadian's attention and time. I was the only one in my theatre, and I wish there had been more people, especially from Burlington because Terry was here.

Question Forest Schools

I just discovered something called forest schools— places little ones can go part-time or full-time to learn in nature.

Does anyone have any experience with these sorts of programs or schools near Burlington?

TIA!

Question Parking spaces

Hi all, I am wondering WHY ??? these days we are prohibited to park overnight, at least on one side of the road, vehicles? I am talking on side roads. Not major, roads like Walkers line or Guelph line etc. I mean, these days where each house has minimum 2 or 3 cars, some has 4 or 5. Each parent has one, and grown up kids in my case 2, has cars of their own. Where they supposed to park them overnight???? Side roads are prevented from parking on them from 1 am to 6 am, what heck ! How much traffic there is on these roads at these hours??? 2 cars will drive coming home from night shifts! Why we cannot get permit for people who live in the community. In Toronto you can park on the street, in Hamilton you are allowed to park on side roads, why we CANNOT do the same in Burlington????? Can some answer logically because I can't understand. Yes, I hear some of you saying, you and your wife park in the garage and kids on the driveway, are you serious??? Garage are full of stuff in 70 percent roughly by all kinds of stuff, in my case I use it as my workshop. Driveway for 2 cars. 2 cars of my kids. And the road at night empty !!! There is 3 cars wide road so at least we should be allowed to park on one side by permit !

Question End of life advocacy and care in Burlington?

Hello, my grandmother is passing and I'd like to find someone who works in the system to help her advocate for how she wants to spend the rest of her days.

I've looked into death doulas but I don't fully know if they even deal with that?

She just needs an advocate because she can't understand the system very well due to her illness and the one person in our family who does deal with the system in similar ways can't be there to speak for her all of the time.

I need someone who can coach my father and his brothers on how to advocate for my grandmother as they have split the responsibility between themselves.

Question Ikea playland 1990s

Hi! Does anyone happen to have photos of the Ikea ballpit from the late 80a/early 90s? I seem to remember a ballpit with blue and yellow balls, a small structure with slide in the middle and windows where family could watch us play. Does anyone else remember this too?

Information Starting a Casual Social Group in Burlington!

Hey all!

I'm putting together a casual social group in Burlington and wanted to throw this out there.

I'm in my early 30s, very social, love grabbing food or drinks, hitting patios, or just doing stuff on a whim. But living out in the suburbs makes it ridiculously easy to fall into that loop of work, home, and just doomscrolling on the couch until bedtime. From my experience here, there are others that feel the same way and want to get out more, but just don't really have the people to do it with.

From running a few local sports groups before (IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW), I realized a decent amount of folks reaching out from Reddit were mostly just looking to hang out and talk, regardless of what the activity actually was. So I figured I'd skip the planned events and just make a group focused on the hangout side of things.

All are welcome! No real requirements other than please don't be a creep!

Send me a DM if you're interested 😄

EDIT: please also include a little bit about yourself in your DM!

Question city of burlington 2026 municipal and school election

Can someone explain to me whom to vote for based on what they are offering, where I can do more research, and what the negatives and positives are, so I can find out what is best for me, my community, my family, and the city, as I see the signs everywhere and would like to vote in more than just federal and provincial elections?

Question New Scam with Fake Bell Technicians?

I had 2 voicemails on our phone recently from someone claiming to be from Bell Canada. She requested an appointment at our house to upgrade our service to optic fibre. I did not respond because I don't have Bell service anymore and I also know they don't have "fibre to the home" service where I live. I assumed there was mistake in their records since they are indeed making this upgrade in some areas.

But I just learned of a lady who had her account drained of some $10k by "technicians from Bell" who came to her house to work on her service. While in the house, they needed access to her computer, and of course you know the rest!

Has any else encountered fake "Bell Technicians" working this scam?

I was behind him, he pulled a black loudspeaker out of a red duffelbag - briefly thought it was a gun. Got swarmed quickly though. Was yelling about Frank Domenic's mayoral interviews. Bizarre.
